@ joslicx - which phone do you have ? and even if you root you can unroot simply by updating the software [:)]

edit : just saw that you use htc sensation. it depends on manufacturers when they decide to update to ics. i mean i use xperia arc but xperia arc s and 2 other phones received ICS updates from sony.

i'm yet to get ICS but i can flash ICS in my phone. but didn;t want too because i'm using gingerbread + root which works like a charm [;)]

Yes agree it depends on manufacturers and thats the problem. They take their sweet time (and in many cases have decided NOT to upgrade some phones to latest Android).

I agree we can root/unroot and do all these things. I do that in my office all the time (I work for a company that develops these chipsets that go in mobiles/tablets etc and we flash new softwares almost everyday on test boards for feature development/testing etc). Still I have not found inclination or time to do that on my Sensation. One problem with custom ROMs is, everything doesnt work properly. Second problem is security! How do I know for sure that the developers wont steal any confidential info from my phone and not misuse it??? I am too skeptical maybe. Third is fear of bricking the device. It would be a big 30k loss just for updating to latest Android Software. Its not like people have not bricked their devices.

My question still is, why dont updates appear on our devices as soon as Google releases them??? Why are we still made to wait so long for them??? I shouldnt have to use a custom ROM just to get updated software. Or otherwise installing custom ROMs should be easier. Right now, the process looks too intimidating!

oh you work in a company that develops chipset[thumbsup] so its good that you are aware of each and everything [:)]

Sony promised ICS , umm 5-6 months back , and now they have started rolling out.
developing a whole new android version will take some time and its not that easy as releasing minor updates from time to time.

custom rom's - to use them one has to unlock the bootloader and if anything goes wrong , i agree , phone will be dead so that's why i haven't unlocked it yet. don't want to take any chances.

there are many custom roms which are good and trustworthy like cynoegmode ( something like that ) and the security issue , i agree one cannot ind out what information is going out from the device.

a big issue relating to this emerged a few months back.

as i said earlier , not an easy task to develop a new android version and adding their skin too it. whats the use of skinless version , you won't get company's goodies.

have you been to htc forum ? you should check that from time to time.

Yes our processor is gonna power Sony's some or most of new handsets :) In most benchmarks its as good as Exynos of Samsung. Having been involved in the development since the beginning I know a bit now about these things :)

I do frequent XDA forum pages for HTC Sensation. I have not yet convinced myself to root the phone. Next month warranty would be over (1 year completion). I might go for custom ROMs then. But am still mighty skeptical about the security issues if nothing else.

thats great [:)]

aah , i just go at xda just to see what all mods can be done in my phone , don't bother looking at details or even how they develop these. first i visited i was getting a headache , just because i didn't know anything. now i can understand most of the things.

when 2.3.4 was not available in india i was using it for more than 2 months[lol] first i was reluctant too but afterwards i coudn't wait.

do you face any problems in your phone besides battery :P

i didn't like the design of s3 , ugly.
Well I wouldnt call it ugly but it is rather uninspiring. But what really sucks is the cheap looking plastic again! Why cant Samsung give a premium shell to a premium phone??? It does not look appealing enough if you compare to I4S or Razr or Sony XperiaS etc.
