Why Most Indian Cars Are Front Wheel Drive?

As we see most the cars that is produced in India is Front-Wheel Drive(FWD) cars, only some cars are Rear-Wheel Drive(RWD) like Omni,Ambassador e.t.c
So my question is, why doesn't India produce RWD?

its because rear wheel drive cars need more energy to push the car. and in a rear wheel drive car, most of the enegry gets wasted more that what we loose in a front wheel drive, and that indirectly effects your mileage and in india, people are always behind mileage and stuff so we hardly find RWD cars. this question was actually answered this way in some automobile show. im not exactly sure in which channel

Cost cutting is the main reason. RWD cars cost more due to the added axle,differential,etc etc.There is a slight energy loss too.(Drop in avg)

Moreover RWD is generally a concept for load carrying (trucks,buses,etc) & Performance cars(Sports cars).

Indians love a bargain in everything! People want their cars to move and are least bothered which wheel moves first! The manufacturers also need to cut costs and RWD seems an easy way!

Cost effectiveness, efficiency and compact packaging. With FWD format they are free to do what ever feasible in the rear without much prob other than extending the sheet metal.

I would say it primarily revolves around higher production cost, as RWD would call in for safety devices which would increase the cost and not all indians are auto enthusiast and they want to just move from point A to B without much of an issue. So it would be wise for the manufacturers to invest in producing a car which could solve this purpose rather than thinking about a RWD which would increase the production cost.

tata made the nano a RWD as it is a rear engine car too thus saving on costs.

Yep. Nano is rear engined. So its cost is cut when its made RWD.

there are many rwd cars which give good mileage but look at their price tag, for what indians like to pay for cars, they get only fwd cars with good mileage and not rwd with good mileage

Though nano is rear wheel drive its just same as in fwd cars.
no big differential as the engine itself is in rear.
