this is seriously an embarrassing time for both customers and prospective buyers( who have plans to buy skoda) after going through the link. Now i am really confused
Siri, As we discussed on it yesterday, I would suggest you to have a look on the VW Vento too. It will be better to buy a hassle free vehicle and not have apprehensions. A person does not buy a car on a daily basis so take your time and decide properly. Its your hard earned that would be involved.

VW Vento and Skoda Rapid as I said share same platform so there won't be much difference performance wise but in terms of reliability VW has an edge over Skoda.

Anytime any help is required just buzz me dear.

AFAIK the only differences (apart from looks and obvious things) are Cruise Control and Angel Eye projector headlamps. I would pick the Vento over the Rapid anyday [:)]

Apart from those the other differences being slightly better styling and cheaper price tag.
I was in the same dilemma last year when I was looking for C Segment Sedan, I wanted a Diesel one, so City was rejected immediately (though I love it very much). Next up the remaining cars in this segment,
Didn't want Verna as elder brother has one, Linea was rejected because it was having same engine as my previous car (Swift Diesel), Sunny did not impress the family members. Then there was Fiesta, which I was keen on due to its brilliant dynamics, features, looks. But high price & Poor sales, resale marked it down.
Then I was left with 2 choices, either Vento or Rapid. Choosing between the 2 was confusing. I chose Rapid because it was around 40-50k cheaper and I liked its styling better then Vento. Though I missed some features (Steering Mounted Controls, Bluetooth, Projector Headlamps) i felt it was a better package overall. Unlike other cities, the Skoda dealer here is very good.
So If I would choose Between Rapid & Vento, it would be Rapid if i want Diesel & Vento(TSI) if I want Petrol.

Well, opinions differ!

BUT, projector headlamps weren't available on the Vento either, right? [confused]

To keep it on topic, how was the buying/ownership experience?

Voted for Toyota. I am owning an Etios for last 3 years, experience with the dealer - Lanson Toyota from sales to service has been exemplary. I have done 4 services with them till now and will rate them high on customer service, integrity etc.

To quote an incident, during a service I remarked to Toyota person who had called for feedback (not from Lanson) that windshield cleaning would have been better. Immediately I had three calls from Lanson apologizing for any lapse and offering to take the car for cleaning again.

Also when I requested RSA one time, the response was prompt and immediately they arranged for assistance. Also they kept me informed when the person can reach my place of waiting

It was very good, right from the day I waked into the showroom and till I got the car delivered, they were in constant touch and updating regularly. GM was very good and his team was also good. Even in Service Department, they are good. Overall it has been a satisfying ownership experience

Why Hyundai and MS was left out from poll?
Well both Maruti and Hyundai sell in huge numbers. And they are pioneer in this department. The point of poll is to rate among the other car manufacturers apart from these 2. No offence.
So far Honda is turning out to be making a buzz in this aspect. Intresting point here is none have voted for tata even after all the hype and limelight zest recieved.

Between ford, volkswagen, skoda, mahindra, honda and toyota whats their average cost of paid service? Some of them do give extended warranty and ask to pay annually for road side assistance. So which among them is worth?

Ownership has been peaceful so far with no major niggles. Yes, some times I use Rapid and sometimes Brio. No issues with the ASS at all, they are co-operative and they address the problems very well. In fact, many cars they get for Service are from Bangalore. It's that good. I get about 13 in city and 18 on highways.

So far honda is favourite among many. The VW/skoda offers 15000 km service/ year basis. Seems pretty good one.

Good one. Have u tried upgrading the headlamps to HID? Is the skoda dealership near by u offering this? What about ICE? Are you using stock one or have upgraded it?

Is it advisable to do wheel alignment in the service station of particular car or at outside professional tyre service centre like MRF, Madhus tyre care etc.

No upgrades as off now, everything is OEM at the moment. Audio is good enough by OEM standards. Though wished Skoda had given Laura's "SWING" Audio Player which has to be the best sounding one by OEM standards. Even though I like music, I don't listen that too much in cars.

Regarding Headlamps, I have reflector type. New ones come with Projector type which are good in terms of light spread. But when required I shall swap them.

Yes, you can get it done outside if you want to. But this practice should be generally done when the cars service interval is not in near future.
