Let's discuss the upcoming NEW segment.Mini SUV for small families and Young Indians.

Ford is planning to launch Ecospace in 2012 in India. Maruti also planning similar.

What is your view?

Existing : THAR : too costly and not for families
Gypsy : poor FE.
and then a big space to plug up!

We can discuss about the specific product in their respective threads itself. But as far as the discussion about this segment is concerned, it’s an untapped one which I feel, can have many potential consumers if worked upon correctly. (Read price, design, image and features).

Well Thar And gypsies have their own respect they literally are SUVs but i consider them as the best affordable off-roaders which have conquered India's toughest terrains.

Premier Rio looks tempting with MJD engine and of course called as mini SUV.

Next up is MINI-Xylo,but it looks more like an Hatch with comfortable seats and many more stuff whatsoever

Renault duster maybe added.

I think now that RIO is available with fiat jtd, it should sell in decent numbers, but the game changers could really be mini xylo and xuv 300 by mahindra. I just wonder why, tata don't revive their sierra brand, it was a perfect mini 5 seater SUV for Indian families,it failed because it was too ahead of its time, but now with crowded cities it may be perfect time for tata to launch all new sierra on Aria chassis.

This is one segment which is hotting up for sure.
Which 8-10 Lakh SUV do you see topping the segment in the next year?

Renault Duster
Ford EcoSport
Tata Safari Merlin
New Premier Rio
Suzuki R III

i think R III will be successful becaues it is a MSIL product but that isnt saying much these days after looking at A Star. Eco Sport should do good numbers if priced well.

for me it will be R III

RIII will be surely hit if priced correctly
also Merlin will sell well if it will be priced at current safari price tag.

Well, the ecosport will be like a beefed up fusion.
Dont see it doing too well.


For me it will have to be
1: merlin
2: mini-xylo
3: duster (if renault opens more dealerships)

IMO, the new Rio will not come in the range of 8-10L. It will be in the segment below this.

I am expecting the same from mini-Xylo if M&M have to sell it like the XUV.

For me, R-III would be the top selling among the ones listed above. I just hope it doesn't go the Qualis/Tavera way, hit among the cabbies.

For Ecosport, Duster & Merlin, everything depends on the price at which these are launched.

Waiting for R3 impatiently,Duster won't do well until the growth increases of Renault's sales and service outlets.

What about mini xylo ?

The xylo itself costs 88-10 lakhs.
Expect mini xylo to be 5-7 lakhs, and hence a segment below.

Well, the current Rio is below this already this segment, and I dont think that Premier will stop the current Rio already.

Huge chances that R3 will create a new definition but it’s not an SUV. Ecosport and Duster are the next from which I have some expectations.

+1. 5-seater SUV is not a VFM proposition unless it is priced in 5-6L range like the Premier Rio.
