My polo is around 25k on ODO and I don't even see a mark of wear tear on my tires which are applo acc 185/60/R15. I really doubt that only 30-35k is the total life of these tyres.
tyre mileage depends a lot on the type of road that you drive. if the roads are not that smooth its life will come down.

The side wall on my cousins Verna was cut a few days ago, those were S drive tires,so regardless of what brand if there is a heavy impact there will be a cut.
In case of my cousin,an auto with shiny sharp rim mountings cut close to the car & hit the tire[anger],so the sharp things sticking out of the rim cut the tire wall, imagine a two wheeler persons leg .

Anyways music_swift if you want durable tires then look at tires from Good year or any well available brand,Yokohama S Drive will offer grip but no tire life. If you want to stick to Yokohama & want tire life then check out the A drive segments.

Hey guys

I will be getting my Vento this coming Friday or Saturday. I plan on upgrading the tyres straight out of the showroom in order to get the best value for the stock tyres.
My priorities are:
1. Superior grip
2. Durability (the roads towards my house in Kollam, Kerala are almost non-existent)
3. Comfort
4. Reduced/absent road noise

Which tyre is the best in these aspect?
Also, according to these tyre websites, the best upgrade for the 185/60 R15 is 205/55 R15 but most of the people have gone in for 195/60 R15. Which is advisable, 195 or 205? My priorities have been listed above.
I hope the tyre experts on TAI will reply :please:

when you upgrade the comfort level comes down ( my personal experience ). i had upgraded to 195/60 R15 mrf zlo. the jerks are more felt inside after the upgrade. the mileage has also come down.

A drop in mileage of 1-2kmpl won't matter much. But the comfort levels shouldn't be reduced much. I need good grip though because the roads here are filled with maniacs and potholes and the highway being single lane does not help at all. I do a round trip of 200kms once a week atleast. So good grip is needed in case I have to sudden brake or so.

the mrf zlo has harder rubber. i think bridgestone would be a better option. i had a smoother ride with bridgestones when i upgraded i my wagon-r & the grip was also good.

I got 195/60 R15 Bridgestone MY02 tyres for my Vento. The owner of the shop (New Bharath tyres, Chaka, TVM) advised me to get those tyres for the time being and then go for 205 section tyres after all the warranty thing has expired and after I get a remap (hopefully).
I traded in the stock JK Vectras. They gave me Rs. 2000/tyre (MRP is Rs. 32xx/tyre). The cost of the MY02 was Rs. 5800/tyre. Paid Rs. 15,800 including wheel balancing. I know it is a lot compared to what we pay in other cities but Kerala being Kerala, we are forced to pay through our nose.
The tyres are comfortable. I drove 50 kms on the stock tyre and comfort levels haven't reduced much. I can't comment on the other aspects as I'm planning on running in the car till 1000 kms.

Congrats Vipin on your new VW Vento and for the new shoes. Your point is very valid, tyre dealers in Kerala won't give much discounts and its very difficult to bargain as i did my tyre upgrade last week. In my opinion its very tough to deal with New Bharath as they hardly give any good deals.

Thank you Godfather. And I totally agree with you. I'm going to stop visiting New Bharath. But the only problem is that it's like they've almost got a monopoly in Tvm and Klm. Too bad there aren't any other good tyre shops stocking a variety of brands.
The only other option is to go to Cochin or some place for tyres but that's a bit too far to go just for tyres [glasses]
