Re: Volkswagen Polo Road Test Review

A friend of mine works in VW. He just informed me that the Polo 1.6 is discontinued.

Also, the Polo is coming with A/T, but he is not sure whether it is coming in 1.2 petrol or diesel...

Thanks for the info Raj.

Three days back I visited the showroom and asked for polo 1.6. The guy said they are taking bookings for polo 1.6 with one month waiting!!

But I believe your info would be more reliable.

An exhaust pipe for polo, found here in the VW workshop in Noida sector-63. Same can be found at Atrica Automobiles Patparganj, Delhi.

I wanted to fit it, but it was not available for petrol versions of polo[frustration] (my first regret of buying a petrol)

Price? Yes its costly, the guy says its for Rs. 4600 /-
Some bargaining can be done to bring it down to 4000.
Anyone tried this on polo?

Re: Volkswagen Polo Road Test Review

I was again told that the Polo 1.6 will come back, but only with the A/T gearbox. Basically, they will use the same setup of the Vento - 1.6 engine with A/T gearbox.

OMG is that a exhaust pipe??? Never thought it would look like this. It looks massive and impressive built quality IMO.

Yes Amit, the build quality is good. I checked it, but at same time 4.5 k is bit too much for an exhaust pipe. 2-3k would have been reasonable.

Re: Volkswagen Polo Road Test Review

Fellow TAIans ,
Will there be any hope in expecting an upgrade to 1.2 TDI engine coming with the facelift. Any info ??
Will VW India address the rising petrol prices with a Polo with diesel vento's heart ??
Other than cosmetic upgrades a change in the diesel heart would defenitly get more buyers !

Yes buddy, VW is notorious for its costly parts. But well quality doesn't come easy, isn't ?

I agree. Having lived with polo for around 10 months, I can bet that the quality is superior to most of the competitors.

@viishnu
The new facelift/upgrade is coming on petrol polo A.T probably as discussed in couple of above posts. About upgraded engine on tdi, sometime back there were thoughts that vw might launch 1.5 tdi but that might happen not before 2014. If VW is really serious about Indian market, they should do it sooner like toyota is doing with engine upgrade on liva.
Upgraded engine would definitely invite interests of many auto enthusiasts.

Re: Volkswagen Polo Road Test Review

An engine upgrade to the current 1.2TDI engine would defenitly make the Polo a game changer for sure.

Regarding the built quality, VW Polo in its segment is a benchmark. Its built tough. I have a swift and I have also travelled in Polo. I must say polo 's build quality is simply superb.

Volkswagen confirms Polo 1.5 diesel

Volkswagen has officially confirmed that it will introduce a 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Polo in 2014. News of this engine, which is essentially a downsized version of the Vento’s current 1.6 diesel (EA 189), was first broken by Autocar India over a year ago.

The new 1.5 diesel “has been specifically developed keeping the Indian market in mind” says Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, chief of product development at Volkswagen. “It will have a different bore and stroke,” he adds. The downsizing project includes the development of new pistons, rings and connecting rods and a stringent validation process that has taken the better part of two years.

VW also hopes to reduce the cost of the engine by assembling it in India. The current 1.6 diesel is imported from South Africa.

With the 1.5 diesel, VW hopes to enhance the appeal of the Polo, which is struggling in the premium hatchback market against rivals like the Swift and i20. The new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder motor is expected to be significantly smoother and more powerful than the current 1.2-litre, three-cylinder diesel. As the engine is still in the development stage, the power and torque outputs have not yet been decided.
