@HR

Hahahahahah this tempting is going to cost you very badly buddy as our trip to Valparai will be guided by you without fail[:)] you have to show us all those places shown in your pics
Good idea... part time travel guide... can make some money doing what I like doing...[:D]

Good pictures. How was the road from Valparai to Athirapally? Few months back I went to Athirapally, but via Thrissur and there was no water.
The road is bad for around 15 kms starting from the Valparai Check post. The rest of the way is newly laid road. A pleasure to drive...

Yes. The water level is low every where. We expected that. We went this time only for the wildlife...[:)]

Wow, Excellent scenery HR.

Driving on those roads without any crowd would be a wonderful experience[clap]
Thanks AppU. Enjoyed just driving around over there...

Thanks for posting the wonderful pics of tea plantation.
Thanks Mukesh!

There are some resorts like the waterfalls estate, Chinna Durai's estate, etc. They cost around 4000/5000 per night.

We stay at a small home stay inside Valparai town that has a very good view, with food to order. Costs 2000 for a 4 bedded room (where we stayed). Double bedded rooms cost around 1500. We get a discount of 20% as we are friends with the owner.

If you are really interested PM me and I will give you the details and try and get you a discount as well.[;)]

During our last trip to Kochi, we ended up in Guruvayoor by mistake [embarass]
I am not sure if you will like that route - through forests and mountains...

Hi Mukesh

Green hills hotel at valparai is a budget hotel, located in Valparai town itself. The main plus point is they have a closed and secured car parking.

And regarding the route from Valparai to Guruvayur - There are two routes. Valparai>Athirapally>Chalakudy>Thrissur>Guruvayur (Valaparai to Athirapally road condition is already updated by HR, from Athirapally to Guruvayur road is good.
The other route is - Valparai>Pollachi>Govindapuram>Kollengode>Nemmara>Vadakkanchery>Thrissur>Guruvayur. Road till Vadakkanchery is excellent, Vadakkanchery to Thrissur NH47, road re taring is going on, will be over in two weeks. And Thrissur - Guruvayur road is good anyway.

There is a feature about Valpara & Athirappali in a Malayalam portal (6 pages)

Mansoon Travelogue

It is about 26 people met on internet (google plus) and traveled during rainy season. They stayed in a Bungalow in middle of jungle surrounded by Trees and river "Manambilli guest house".

Their enthusiasm is superb. They have shared few photos as well .
Just thought of sharing.

It would be great if we can plan a group trip to that place. I never been to Athirappali or Charppa waterfalls.

Exceptional photos. no words. i have always wanted to visit valprai, since i saw it in one of the music videos of jagjit singh. but your photos are now making me desperate. not only the beauty of the place, but the sense that you dont see any crowd at all is the best part.
kudos for the effort of posting photos in bulk here. any photography lovers takes a lot of pictures, but posting them and sharing everything is seen rarely. great going and will be following this thread for future reference, when i make my trip.

Hello Highway Ranger, nice photos.

I visited the same place during this monsoon season. The climate was unstable. The very next day, Vazhachal forest division closed Athirapally-Vazhachal route for three days due to rain and landslides. There was low light, partially cloudy and ambience was amazing. Once you hear the sound (music) of water falls, and the cloud-fumes, you will feel relaxed, rejuvenated. Truly, Athirapally is the Niagara of Indian water falls. Let me add a photo.

Thanks and welcome to TAI, Mathew.

I think the best time to visit Valparai would be the early part of September when all the water bodies would be full up.

Nice photo of the Athirapally falls.
