Nice travelogue Tornado. I am planning below itinerary along with my family of 5 people in Ertiga. Please share your valuable thoughts regarding destinations, routes, hotels etc:

Destinations planned: Somanathapura temple, Chamundi hills, Mysore Palace, Mysore Zoo, Srirangapatna, Krishnarajasagar Dam (optional)

Day1:
> Start from Coimbatore 7AM
> Breakfast @ Sathyamangalam
> Reach destination1 Somanathapura via T Narasipura, Chamrajnagar, Dhimbam
> Temple visit either before / after lunch based on time.. Any suggestions?
> Reach destination2 Chamundi hills via Bannur
> Reach Mysuru and check in to hotel.. Any recommendations near palace in 3k/family room range?
> Go to destination3 Palace in the night to see lights.. Lit on all days or only specific days?

Day2:
> Breakfast at hotel or nearby
> Visit destination4 Mysuru zoo.. Assuming good 2 - 3hrs stroll
> Lunch immediately after coming out.. Any suggestions?
> Visit destination3 Palace again and explore inside as well
> Visit destination5 Srirangapatnam / take rest based on energy levels

Day3:
> Breakfast at hotel or nearby
> Drive back via Nanjangud, Chamrajanagar, Dhimbam, Sathyamangalam. How the road condition - especially between Nanjangud and Chamrajnagar (road laying was in progress when we visited last year and literally were crawling)

Any other suggestions for visiting, hotel, restaurants etc welcome. I am hoping this time of the year will be pleasant from climate stand point.

I recommend Ramavilas Hotel for breakfast.

Chamundi Hills > Nanjangud > CH Nagar > Dhimbam > Sathy
We traveled in this route two days ago and roads are pretty good. Never had to crawl anywhere except for a short 200 meter stretch with no tarmac.
Wish you a fun filled trip [thumbsup].

You completed the trip or yet to go?
If online booking is possible then the train ride is fun, else during peak holiday time we needs to wait for 4 to 5 hrs at the ticket window.
