Re: Toyota Innova Crysta A.T Drive Review
Innova Crysta is a large vehicle and to maneuver it there has to be precise and fast feedback from the steering wheel which I can say is there in it. As I drove it for a good 35 kms so it was quite evident to me that the steering was giving a positive and precise response. Having driven the car in both Eco and Power mode, I feel,
the steering response in Eco mode was very good. However, of all the plus points of the steering, a small issue was it's stiffness while parking on the road's corner. Apart from this, through out the traffic and turns on the highway, it was a breeze to drive on the even surfaced roads.
The steering is really confidence inspiring at speeds of 70-80 km/h and the car remains steady at high speeds. Moving on, the ride quality of Innova and it's handling has always been a decent one so even the Crysta is no different. It does offer a planted ride otherwise but
over the rough patches the jerk is quite pronounced which I feel should have been double checked this time by Toyota.
The brakes are really quick and have a good bite. Upon braking on the highway at 60-70 km/h the brakes accurately responded and the car halted in real time without any abrupt twist and turns but yes the
body roll is there and its significant. Innova Crysta though I drove it in 70-80 speed range but having sat in previous generations of Innova, I feel, the best of an Innova comes out when it's driven on highways with a speed range of 90-100 km/h and by many it's driven even on 3 digit speeds. The 215 section tires offer excellent grip on the roads however,
there is slight bit of road noise in the cabin while driving. I believe a reason for this can be the missing wheel arc cladding too which if present helps in modulating the road noise to an extent. As I mentioned, Innova Crysta has a turning radius of 5.4m so for a MPV of it's size,
there is sizable amount of effort needed to turn it at some places in comparison to other rival MPVs even though Innova Crysta has tall stance and better in-cabin visibility. I say this with my experience of driving an Ertiga. Small but important features like a dead pedal also help in making the drive a fatigue-free experience. Overall, I can say that, Innova Crysta is a capable MPV for the highways and for city traffic it is has a satisfactory performance of suspension but otherwise its a viable city drive car as well.
