re: Toyota Etios Platinum Launched @6.43 lakhs.

I get the 'taxi' logic with the base variants. But they should have atleast added some bling to the top end version like say touch screen ICE, ACC, reverse camera. Or atleast provide an automatic CVT.

Really frustrating to see such products from Toyota. If they have accepted defeat in the mass Market segment, they should stick with the premium segment which gives hefty margins and which is what Toyota is after.

I have seen loads and loads of innovas also as cabs.
You can buy a nice color like red etc, you will hardly see any red etios taxis.
Many of the plastics inside and the seats can be covered with some good art leather at not too much of a cost to give it a nicer interiors.

re: Toyota Etios Platinum Launched @6.43 lakhs.

local dealer called me and showed me the new etios sedan before the launch. Liva was still not there. lots of new stuff, the dealer said there are about 20 new features. I will list whatever I remember.
ABS/EBD, 2 airbags, music system standard on all variants of both the cars.
The back seat folds in the etios, to extend that huge boot even further, now you can carry your golf bag too it seems.
there will be a different more plain looking version for the yellow boards.
there are improvements in the clutch, lot softer than the earlier one.
no acc.
lots of look and feel improvements, chrome etc. Some of these only in the top version
foldable mirrors in vx.
the dealer said the sheetmetal work has improved a lot. No weight related data though yet.

@ doors- if there is a different version for cabin operators then they should have added the new digital instrument cluster. They just changed the fonts in the new one and added a chrome line[frustration]

That's pretty disappointing. No digital instrument cluster, no front arm rest and no changes in alloy wheel design.

A welcome change is the rear seat arm rest. Also the new design of front grill looks good.

Re: Toyota Etios Platinum Launched @6.43 lakhs.

Most of the features are standard in all the variants [thumbsup] I just checked the new brochure.

G variant
Abs
Airbags
Rear defogger
Height adjustable drivers seat
Central locking
Cooled glove box
Intermittent wipers
Keyless entry
Isofix

# V variant ( 50k expensive)
Costly for what it offers

2 din audio with speakers
Rear wiper and washer
Rear parcel tray
Electric orvm adjustment
Some minor features and that's it[surprise]

VX variant
another 50k expensive than the V variant.
4 alloy wheels
Steering mounted audio controls
Front fog lamps
Rear parking sensors
Auto folding orvm

Again don't think these are worth 50k.

just add the double din audio system in G variant and delete the V variant.

Edit : what's the DXL variant ?it's not in the brochure

Comparison of liva G variant with Baleno's delta variant. ( baleno expensive by 26k ) and what you get more in the Baleno.

*reverse parking sensors
*auto ac
*audio player , Bluetooth steering mounted audio controls
* rear washer and wiper.

I haven't driven the Baleno but think it should drive similar to the liva.
We know both have flimsy outer build quality but liva has been crash tested in which it scored 4 stars.
Still my vote goes for the Baleno. Toyota should have priced it competitively

I feel the Etios twins missed out personal ownership because of the Dashboard design and secondly due to people's blind faith in MSIL products. Otherwise, engine wise Toyota engines are also reliable and built wise Toyota is still much better than MSIL. On pricing, yes, Toyota is on higher side if compared to Maruti but then frankly I would say Maruti lacks big time in coming out from their comfort zone and secondly they haven't experimented till now with new and higher capacity engines for their line up. They have stretched 1.3 DDIS like a chewing gum. And we the people made MSIL sit on our heads which further made them complacent otherwise S-Cross for Eg, Why inspite of being a good product with much better interiors and fit and finish and a powerful engine of 1.6 had few takers? I.e because it did not get labeling "Maruti Suzuki" on the boot otherwise imperfections are there in every car and if the badge was present it could have clocked good numbers. Also, 1.3 S-Cross sold relatively more than 1.6 because people too did not want to experiment and felt 10 Lacs+ for it was high. Thus, It is clear that people go by badge name and VFM aesthetics of interiors rather than performance and power. Same way, Etios twins have good reliable engine and a trusted brand but interiors weren't as appealing and so was price hence lost out. In Japanese brands, if I say, then, Toyota and Honda are of the expensive lot in terms of spares and car prices. Apart from that, in every respect both Toyota and Honda are ahead of Maruti not probably in sales number but in terms of quality. The day the Toyota Etios comes with conventional dashboard it would be a good option for private owners too. I feel, just the way TATA products became taxi brand same way Toyota with the Etios twins have entered the same territory and even Innova is still preferred choice of fleet owners. I don't know what to say, but Fleet owners make much more wise decisions than probably the other private car owners by considering performance as a whole over the aesthetics.

I am putting this on the record that from personal point of view, in present, if there is one car which is above the flimsy qualities of other MSIL cars i.e S-Cross. I too was shocked to see an accident of S-Cross and had my doubts over it but in comparison to what Maruti offers, I would say S-Cross is by leaps a better manufactured product.
