I think the base variant should not even be considered. A vehicle without a power steering is just not justified at this price. Considering the G variant, it costs almost same as the Swift VXi. I would anyday prefer the Swift over it. I seriously think the Liva is overpriced. Also the interiors are too cheap. The only reason I see why people will buy this car is the Toyota brand.

Well said, I guess one cannot make people buy a rupee's thing for a one and a half rupee, just for the name sake.

Seems like Toyota’s marketing team has done it just right. In spite of the unexciting design of Liva, this hatchback has successfully achieved the bookings milestone of 1,005 across the country and that too within a couple of days. Surprising. No?

I am bit surprised people going for the Liva. I feel its not worth that money! The only reason i guess is Toyota's brand image and unmatched reliability.

People will ignore a few disadvantages of the Liva and buy it cause the Toyota brand name certainly makes a difference.
+1 - it is toyota's brand value which is driving these cars' sales. Both Etios and Liva are not out of the box or innovative designs or great features, but because of the correct pricing and the image, sales are surging.

Sometime ago I saw a fantastic comparison on a social networking website. I'm attaching similar to that below. One is a 2005 Model (Suzuki Swift) and another is from 2011 (Etios Liva). You can easily get an idea which still looks fresh and much modern. With such dull designed products making way in, does it simply translates that we are moving way back words?

No comparison with Swift , even after all these years Swift is still one of the best looking stylish Hatches in our market. And also +1 to Umang , if Brio comes with an appropriate price tag then people will get behind Brio.

I was never a fan of the looks of Etios and the Liva is no different, yet another dull design from Toyota.
Nice comparo pics, i completely agree with Dhaya. Even after so many years Swift feels fresh and sporty.

Toyota is going to do nothing without diesel engines. That's the scenario now in India. They can hit record number of sales if they comes with diesel versions of Etios and Liva.

Done a TD for Liva today, Observations as below,

Impressions:
  • Good space to carry 5 adults,
  • Comfortable ride,
  • Tilt steering has good range,
  • Finish quality is above average,
  • Paint quality is awesome,
Disappointments:
  • Lacks power of 1.2 ltr engine
  • The Glove box design can not be worse than this
  • AC is not effective
  • Turning radius is not as good as the Etios sedan
  • Steering is not responsive at all

Overall, a very disappointing package by Toyota.

well liva wont be much successful like etios sedan..@fjcruiser hows plastic quality??
plastic quality is very good, however the feel is not superior. Texture to the dashboard plastic is good, helps reduce the glare.

I agree you with you, Liva would do just about average business in our market.
