Most of the points are hilarious yet true. This reminds me of 2 things.

1)
I used to drive Bang->Chennai->Bang every weekends. And the biggest problem i have faced in the highway is , Trucks without proper Tail Lamps/ Reflectors. That literally made night driving a Nightmare, even at 80-90 kmph.

2)
One of our family Friends met with an Accident a couple of years ago. The car was a Swift. It happened at night, on a highway. The truck in the front has dropped a pile/bunch of sugarcane, and on the Dark highway they were not able to see it until it was too late. all the occupants were injured badly and was hospitalized, but Luckily every one is Alive.

In both the cases, It is just basics that are missing. Having a tail lamp at night and Loading the goods properly are 2 basic things. But its very sad that it is not happening in India.

Instead of catching Cars with sun film, cops should go after Trucks/vehicles without tail lamps.

Just my opinion.

AGREED 100% This is a problem not only on the highways but even on the Delhi roads, I nearly hit a massive wide load truck on a dark side street just last night for that reason!

The same issue exists with Tractors, which drive even slower and even fewer of them have any lights at all! The worst experience of this type I can recall is on my way to Bhatinda (Punjab), the unlit tractors and trailers would seemingly appear out of nowhere, on both sides of the roads!

They should also teach these slower/heavier vehicles to stay in the left lane, instead of blocking the right lane, which is supposed to be for faster moving vehicles only!

After i nearly ran over someone today late evening on ring road Bangalore, i can safely say & can strongly add one more thing to things you can do on Indian roads.
Walk straight across the road without looking whats coming your way.

I was easily doing 60 to 70 & two people crossed ahead safely & had got onto the divider. (i was flashing lights to check things are clear) I guess there was a third person with them ,a lady hurried after them from the footpath to right in front of my cars path.
I ended up swerving & braking at the same time i was convinced the lady was going to bounce off my bonnet.
It was one way traffic all she had to do was look to her right,i could clearly see her face was straight ahead & i had to literally graze the divider avoiding her i guess she was inches away from my left mirror.
I was shaken after the incident cos i had never had such a close call with a pedestrian.Only once had i driven off the road cos a mentally challenged lady walked in front of my car but even that was not this close!
My friend called it close call with jail. [frustration]

The rule should be made strict. and toll gates should check for working brake Lights or At least Reflectors in our Case.

Yes, even if the mistake is on the Pedestrian, you will be put into Trouble. Only in very rare cases eye witnesses support you. But again, if its a Lady, the fairer sex gets more support naturally. I really cant think of a solution. Maintaining safe speed is one thing and being extra careful where you think pedestrians might fall in, might also work.

Damn! I can imagine how terrifying that would be, it's ridiculous how little people care about their lives before they do some stupid sh*t!

Especially as car drivers, we feel more compromised if an accident were to occur because whenever another mode of transport is involved (Whether it is cycle, rickshaw, motorbike, etc) as the car always takes the blame, whether or not that is justified!

some of the fairer sex believe that all people are watching them and they take for granted that the vehicles will brake for them. my friend's neighbor, a middle aged lady had this belief. my friend had even advised her to be watchful while crossing roads on seeing her attitude. but she ignored his warning and continued with her careless attitude. and one fine day the inevitable happened and she was it by a car and spent months in the hospital. she became careful ever after.............[:D][;)]

thats true out of 10 trucks almost 6 to 7 of them doesnt have tail lamp
and the worst thing is they dont even use 20 or 30 buck alternative [ reflector tapes ]

during my recent trip near salem in night found such a lorry and highway patrol police stopped the lorry, collected their share (bribe) and let it go, and they never looked on back of the lorry

One more thing I frequently note is, driving with a small kid in front of steering wheels. kid sitting between the driver and steering wheel and try to steer the car.

This is very dangerous, but no body bothers.

I have seen this too & never understood what the deal with that in India was? I mean don't people get enough time to play with their kids or they want to show the kid how it feels with the wheel. Either way it displays a huge amount of ignorance or even illiteracy on part of the driver.

Very much agree it is quite dangerous!
