Want to know whats common in all of them?[confused]
It is the alphabet R.

Why are manufacturers so obsessed with R?

generally r and s go shoulder to shoulder in industry . r is for regular and s is standard.
additionally e for economy .but manufacturers do change alphabets sometimes.

"R" sounds like race and it sounds cool. i mean if Honda had named the type-R something else like maybe Civic Type-M. that sounds boring no? but then Honda named it Civic Type-R. now that sounds awesome. it gets people excited also. this is just a personal belief. dont laugh people. :P

But why does every manufacturer have to, by hook or by crook, sneak in a R somewhere in the name?

I thinks its all their RACE specs We can say, thats why they use R

R & S specs have been described better by Jayadev in this thread, thanks for that.

In Honda's they have TYPE R range of cars and some Type-S and some are MUGEN performance packaged.

Nissan have some Silvia cars with Spec-R and Spec-S and some Skylines are having Type-M special edition production cars.

In the bikes same too, all these categories of bikes are into Super Sports category which means they can Rev higher and are really high end bikes.

Whats the reason behind this R thing in naming , I'd like to know as well

To me 'R' stands for RACING or related to RACE and nothing much. All manufacturers are trying to convey that their product is good for racing or one can race if they want to. But again you have to be rational in comparing each product. Apple vs Apple !

r seems to be high spirit automobile affectionate ,may be a psychological relation for manufacturer too.

S- is more into Standard wouldn't it?

Skyline GTST (single turbo rear wheel drive) and GT-R ( twin turbo all wheel drive)

similar for integra Type S and Type R engine
