Initial impression review:

Hello guys,
Here is my initial impression review with my Swift ZDi. Have driven the car for 700 KMS till now.

Most of the things would be compared to my City (I know it is injustice!) but that is the car & segment i've used the most.

Likes:
The ultimate like for me is Mileage. Attached is the mileage that i got during the highway drive back to Chennai.
1. Interiors (It gives a good feel compared to the old Swift).
2. Breaking is good. Thanks to ABS. It's not powerful when compared to City.
3. The turbo rush at 2K RPM. But, does not give the rush when compared to the old swift engine.
4. Looks (My opinion).
5. Steering response is good even at speeds ~ 100 KMPL.
6. Alloys are good and spare wheel comes with alloy too.
7. Ground clearance (The places where my City gave me a heartache is no longer a worry).
8. Audio system is good and sound quality is also good.
9. Control of the vehicle at speeds ~ 100 is good.
10. The retractable cup holder serves the purpose and no space constarin.
11. Headlamp is good for highway drives and visibility is there.
12. Reverse light illumination is good and serves the purpose.

Dislikes:
1. Engine vibration and noise inside cabin when driving (Have used only petrol cars earlier).
2. Seating comfort is not so good (Including driver) for long travel (Again a comparison with City).
3. Fog lamps do not serve the purpose. I feel it is underpowered.
4. Horn is not effective. We definitely require a after market one.
5. Left leg hitting the comparment while using clutch. Seat needs to be adjusted accordingly. But with 4 persons in the car, it would reduce the comfort of the person sitting behind the driver.
6. IVRM is small and does not give complete visibility. Have to depend on OVRM.

Apart from my personal likes and dislikes, here are some useful information (AKA my findings):

1. The "Mute" button is not mute indeed. It's "Pause".[lol]
2. There is no body roll when compared to the old swift while cornering even at pretty high speeds (Not sure about the other variants).
3. Boot space is good (For my requirement). Photo of boot capability attached below.
4. Boot door opens plenty much and chances of getting hit in a low roof is high.

To answer the common Indian question - Kitna milta hain? (How much does it give?):
For a new vehicle, i got a mileage of 20 KMPL, which left me flabbergasted (Cost per KM ~ Rs.2.30).[:D]

Clearly you have compared braking , seating etc with the city.

City is a segment above the swift in the cabin/comfort/safety etc.

Comparing to other diesel hatches , swift is quiet.

Have done a after market exhaust to a old swift and turbo whistle in that is MUSIC!

That hand woven bag , in middle , remembers old days . Used to have similar kind of as lunch bag to school.

The on board system is almost accurate. new swift owner have said the on board system actually shows 1 to 1.5kmpl less. No idea is this true. people here refered by fill to fill method.
In that case yours is 21.5 kmpl. Cross check with fill to fill method.

Cheers!

Yes. Thats what i said injustice! I have not driven or travelled in diesel cars much. So, compared with an existing car in my stable.[evil]

I agree with Skoda. But i'm not much sure with other vehicles. VW is quite in this segment right?

Most southies remember those nostalgic days bro [:)]. BTW, it was delicious home made murukku inside.

I don't trust the on board system Ilango. I lost my faith in it from my City. It is not accurate.
Yes, as you said tank-tank will be the perfect one to test. Will be testing this month end or next month when i fill in.

Congratulations on your new Swift [clap]

I wanted to know regarding the following.

What do you feel about he audio. Is it "City" or "Swift" which comes in the first place?

Also on the rear bottom center I can see a big red light. What is the purpose? Is that rear fog lamp? When will it switch ON?

And I can see two Controls for fog lamps at the driver side. One along with head lamp switches and the other near the head lamp level adjuster.

Thank you [:)].

City is the best in terms of audio quality compared to Swift. I am not aware of the specs of the speakers in the Swift.

Also on the rear bottom center I can see a big red light. What is the purpose? Is that rear fog lamp? When will it switch ON?
Thats a good question. I have not yet checked it yet. Your question has indeed thrown some curiosity on the light. I will check and let you know.

If any other swift owner is aware, please educate us.

And I can see two Controls for fog lamps at the driver side. One along with head lamp switches and the other near the head lamp level adjuster.
I am now confused. The fog lamp button that i use is near the head lamp adjuster. Need to mention that you have got sharp eyes.
Again, I will check it and update you.
I have not explored the vehicle much apart from driving. Even the rear wiper has not been tested yet.

Ok Gino here you go with my findings:

1. The front fog lamp switch is near the headlight adjuster
2. The one in the head lamp switch is for rear fog lamp (The red section in the rear centre bottom). It works only when the headlight is turned on.
Also, there is a notification in the indicator.

Tested the rear wipers and glad to know that it has water wash option too.:stupid:

Car has clocked 1000+ Kms on the Odo and need to leave for the service.

Advice required from existing swift owners/ experts:
1. What will be the approx. service cost for a free service?
2. What type of oil i need to go for diesel engine?
3. What are all the tune ups that may be required/ checked for?

Awaiting your reply!!![cheers]

Good review and pictures. Dashboard design and feel is much better than earlier. But steering cover seems to have improper stitching.

1. What will be the approx. service cost for a free service?
This is supposed to be zero. You will have to pay only for the consumables like engine oil (if required).

Thanks Vibhor! Yes, the quality has improved a lot compared to the old versions IMO.
In regards to the steering cover, i agree it is not that great but guess it was free. Could not ask for more. It is comfortable for me.

I agree it is zero for labor costs involved.
But, i wanted to know the approx cost for the service which may include the engine oil, oil filter, drain plug etc.,

Also, it would be great if someone could help me with my other questions.
