Honda Recalls City in India..

Honda has recalled its ANHC models sold in Nov 2008 - Dec 2009 owing to the faulty motion spring in the valve train. Read the report below for details.

Honda SIEL cars India is recalling its City cars sold between November 2008 and December 2009. The cars are apparently suffering from a faulty lost motion spring in the valvetrain. According to a company statement, the springs, which are compressed by rocker arms during an engine’s normal functioning may bend or break over time. This may result in abnormally high engine noise, the engine stalling and problems in re-starting.

The City is known for its impeccable reliability in India, and sells in very healthy numbers even with a steep price tag. The car also commands great premium in the used car market. However, this recall should not be taken negatively by any means. While recalls are a common happening in developed car markets, in a country like India where human life is cheaper than chips, no one really cares. Honda owning up to a fault, thus, is welcome.

We are sure that automobiles from some other car makers in this part of the world would have half their parts listed as ‘faulty’ if they undergo stringent analysis from an authority like NHTSA in the US. Hope to see that day soon, as cutting corners in quality is a known practice among Indian automakers.

Jazz owners need not panic.
As the officials claim that only ANHC Nov'08-Dec'09 manufactured is affected with a faulty part in Engine.
Springs under rocker arm being replaced.
It's a preventive measure.

The Hindu : Business News : Honda Siel to recall 57,853 City sedans for faulty engines

But my question is what took them so long to diagonise this problem.

Owners can verify whether their car is affected by entering VIN no of Honda city.

I was watching the interview of one gentleman from HONDA and he said that the number of cars recalled are just about 0.01%.

In my view if we see the numbers, HONDA sales about 5000 city cars a month and over 2 years the number comes to 120,000. Now out of these they are recalling 55000 cars, ie almost 46%.

I think the percentile mentioned by the Honda spokesman was considering the Global numbers!

Oh ok Akash, no problems.

However to convey my point I would like to mention that, on other forums you will find that this design flaw of Hyundai is not only in India, but in Europe also.

MV Agusta recalls motorcycles

Italian motorcycle maker MV Agusta is recalling certain F4 motorcycles from the 2010 model year to fix a potential weak point in their rear sub-frames. The upper fixture points of the sub-frame, which supports the seat and rider, may not be as strong as necessary.

The company says it is possible for cracks to form in the sub-frame and cause the part to fail. If that happens the rider will lose support and stability, which would increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects 211 motorcycles, which is a significant and troubling number for a specialty maker like MV Agusta, whose exotic bikes can cost more than $40,000.

In a defect notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the motorcycle maker said it learned of the problem from one of its test riders. The rider reported that during a test ride the seat suddenly felt as if it had been lowered. When company technicians examined the bike they found breaks in the upper rear sub-frame.

As a result of its findings, the company says its dealers will install a reinforcement kit free of charge. Specifically, the company says it will reinforce the subframes of affected bikes built through Sept. 7, 2010 and install new, re-engineered subframes on bikes built on Sept 8, 2010 and afterward. The company says it has tested both fixes to make sure they solve the problem.

MV Agusta says it expects to begin the recall this month. Owners may contact the company at 215-830-3300. The company says it knows of no crashes resulting from the problem.

Chevrolet Recalls Cruze After A Steering Wheel Falls Off

Imagine turning your car’s steering wheel, or giving it a gentle tug, and having it break away from the steering column. Now you’re speeding along holding the suddenly useless wheel.

It sounds like a vision from a cartoon, or every driver’s nightmare. And it happened to at least one driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze compact car last month, and General Motors Corp. is recalling 2,100 of the cars as a result.

While the recall affects a relatively small number of vehicles, it is an unpleasant development for Chevrolet, which has been riding high on the success of its new small car. Chevrolet sold 50,205 Cruzes through the end of March. That’s well short of the 76,821 units Toyota sold of the Cruze’s main rival, the Corolla, but it is ahead of the 37,379 Cobalts Chevy sold in the same period. The Cruze replaced the Cobalt and is supposed to be a departure from that uninspired model.

In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the car maker said it traced the problem with that particular car to a case in which the wrong wheel was put in a car and replaced later in the assembly process with the correct one. But the new wheel wasn’t attached properly, the car maker says.

When the wheel separated from the steering column, the driver was able to get the car to the side of the road safely, and the company says it has tested other cars from the production run and found no similar problems. General Motors says it believes this was an isolated incident.

Chevrolet says it has changed the production process to make sure the machine used to attach the steering wheel can accommodate only the correct one. The company is recalling cars that were built before it made the change.

Under the recall, dealers will inspect the steering wheel to make sure it is properly attached. This service is free of charge and the recall is expected to begin on or before April 8, 2011. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438.

Ford Recalls 1.2 Million F-150s Over Faulty Airbags

Ford Motor Co. says it is recalling about 1.2 million F-150 pickup trucks built between 2003 and 2006 to check their air-bag systems.

The car maker says it decided to recall the vehicles after receiving a number of reports of unwanted airbag deployments associated with chafing wires. If chafing occurs, the company says, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate for a long time before there is any risk of deployment, so the chance of surprise airbag inflation is fairly low.

Ford announced a similar recall in February that affected 144,000 F-150s from the 2005-2006 model year after determining that chafing wiring could lead to unwanted airbag deployments. The company says it has been working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and, through that collaboration, decided to recall a larger group of vehicles that could be affected by the same problem.

Ford has redesigned the F-150 since building the models included in the recalls. However, the airbag problems could hurt the overall image of the strong-selling trucks because the F-150 name has in many ways become its own brand. And for many truck buyers the brand has more meaning than the model year.

Ford says it will notify affected owners about the recall next month. The repair involves replacement of a specific airbag wire in the steering wheel, and is expected to take less than a half day. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents related to the problem, though it says it knows of one case in which an owner was driving slowly in a driveway when the airbag inflated.

Honda recalls new Civic!

REUTERS had reported in the March early this year about the recall of Honda Civic in US owning to the Oil leak which may occur in the event of roll over. The recalls were reported to begin in mid April, however they will start on May 27 in US. It may be noted that Honda would be recalling the cars in U.S as well as in Canada.

WASHINGTON — Honda is recalling 1,156 2012 Civic coupes and sedans in the U.S. because a fuel leak could result in a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"There is a possibility that an O-ring, which seals a connection in the fuel feed line, is misaligned," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If the O-ring is misaligned, a small fuel leak may occur. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire."

Honda said in a statement posted on its Web site that no injuries or fires have been reported related to this defect and that most of the affected vehicles have not yet been sold.

It explained that during manufacture of the fuel-line assembly, an O-ring may have been displaced, which could potentially lead to a fuel leak at a joint where two segments of pipe attach to each other.

In other documentation filed with the federal government, Honda said that a worker at Honda Canada Manufacturing first noticed a fuel smell on a 2012 Civic on April 29. The company initiated a production hold on suspect units on that day.

Honda dealers will replace the fuel feed line assembly in the affected Civics. The recall is expected to begin on May 27.

Another recall update. Guesses?

Well, BMW USA is recalling certain models of X5 which were manufactured between October 1, 2008 to June 12, 2009 due to a faulty fuel filter heater which is used for warming up Diesel when the car is running. The problem is, it might experience an electrical overload and become permanently activated which hence, would result in a conked off battery. All the X5 owners whose car is affected should immediately contact their dealerships or call on 1-800-525-7417.

Toyota recalls 550,000 cars globally

Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling about 550,000 vehicles worldwide — mostly in the United States — for possible problems related to the crankshaft pulley on the engine that could make it harder to steer.

Toyota's U.S. sales unit said in a statement Wednesday that if the problem isn't corrected, there is a possibility the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley.

The recall affects 283,200 Toyota brand cars and 137,000 Lexus vehicles in the United States, including the 2004 and 2005 Camry, Highlander and Sienna.

Toyota spokesman Dion Corbett said some 38,000 cars are being recalled in Japan, as well as 25,000 in Australia and New Zealand. Corbett said there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the problems.

Even BMW issued a recall for 5-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, BMW X5, X6 and BMW 7-Series due to faulty water pump. Now Rolls Royce Ghost is also possibly affected with this. It has been identified that cars manufactured between September 2009 and September 2010 have this problem.

Rolls Royce to recall Ghost in India

Rolls Royce to recall Ghost in India

Global iconic luxury car maker Rolls-Royce today said the Indian market will also be covered by its recent recall of 'Ghost' model for a possible fire hazard.
The company, however, did not specify the exact number of cars that would be recalled in India, saying they do not give out numbers as a policy.
"It affects cars in India. We cannot give the numbers as we do not share as a company policy. We are already in touch with the customers here and the process is in progress," Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd Regional Director Paul Harris told reporters here.
When asked how long would the process to actually rectify the problem take, he said: "Just about one-and-a-half hours."
Earlier this month, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced that in the US it was recalling 589 units of the Ghost model, manufactured between September 2009 and September 2010, because of a faulty circuit board that can lead to overheating of water pump and even lead to vehicle catching fire.
