Tiago was the first car that Tata Motors launched with the new Impact design language. And now, the hatchback is set to become another first for the brand -- the first electric vehicle.
The Tiago hatchback will be the first electric car model to go on sale from Tata's upcoming electric model range. The car-maker has been working on battery electric vehicles with UK-based Tata Motors European Technical Centre (TMETC) leading the charge in development work.

I just hope they launch it. Last year they had Bolt EVwhich never turned into production phase. (link for Bolt EV).

But then Tata opening charging stations, Tiago EV seems to enter production.

Frankly, 100 km range for 84 kWh battery is quite inefficient. World's most popular Nissan leaf gives over 100km on their old 24 kWh battery. With the 30kWh battery, it covers over 172 km. Tesla of course gives over 400km range on 84 kWh battery. Not sure why TATA can't match at least half that range. If the range mentioned by TATA is EPA figures, then the car is even more inefficient as the real world driving-cycle will never match the test driving cycle. But kudos to TATA for moving in right direction.

Sorry You got it wrong I guess, it's a 84KW electric motor ,means ~120ps power ,they haven't disclosed the battery pack details !

The car is developed along with JLR EVs and the autonomous car projects . There is more data to be shared , regarding the challenges they are facing and the production details, stay tuned !

Yep. It is true. Motor is 84kw.

TATA has learnt a lot in 10 years of experience making 4 generations of EVs. That should have translated into lot of learning.

TATA faces an advantage of leap in case, as Gadkari said in the recent SIAM meet, that car makers should discard fossil fuels. So Maruti is at a clear disadvantage over Mahindra and TATA and can perish if they don't change their mind set.

Maruti still is betting on Fossil fuels and has till now not shown and sign of electric cars including its parent SUZUKI. So share holders of Maruti (including me) better watch out.

Yes I was wondering why 'h' was missing after the 'kW' for the battery pack! In any case, I think 100 km range would be good if the battery pack is 24 kWh . Anything above that, will be inefficient. In fact, if they start off with a 200 km range, even with a bigger battery pack it would be far more practical. Eagerly waiting for battery pack details to see how TATA EV shapes up.

for range it needs bigger battery pack. And since there is literally none, 100 kms seems just about right now. TATA should get serious with electrics now. Though i am not fan of it, future is electrics. Govts warning should be taken positively by the industry.

For better range, TATA needs to stuff more battery packs, which isnt possible in mainstream cars. You need to have cars with chassis designed to house battery packs. Like the new williams prototype chassis.

Increasing range by increasing battery capacity is the easiest thing to do. But the real challenge is in improving the range by improving the drivetrain (motor + controller). As of now, there is just no focus in this area. The day the government has the ambitious infrastructure of battery swapping ready there-by standardizing the battery pack size (both dimensions & capacity), the area of drivetrain improvement would get the attention it needs for improvement of range.

Its not an EV , seems like a real world emission test by ARAI ( as from the yellow sticker),

Similar equipments were loaded into cars that had real world emission tests recently, as seen in the report.

Tata Motors will supply the electric version of its Tigor sedan, for which batteries will be imported, Kumar said. However, the company has offered to supply only 250 cars of the 500 sought in the first phase, he said. India plans to replace its petrol and diesel-run vehicles with an all-electric fleet by 2030.

EESL floated a global tender in August for 10,000 e-vehicles as part of a plan to replace the five-lakh petrol and diesel cars used by the government and its agencies over a 3-4 year period.

NEW DELHI: State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has invited global bids for 10,000 electric sedans that will run up to 150 km on a single charge, for use by government departments, taking a big step to achieve power minister Piyush Goyal’s dream of having only electric cars on Indian streets by 2030.

EESL, which has led government efforts to popularise and dramatically reduce the price of energy-saving LED bulbs, plans to buy e-vehicles in two phases. It plans to acquire 1,000 vehicles in the first phase. The tender includes warranty.

Vital to the success of electric vehicles is adequate charging infrastructure in the area where they operate. EESL has also floated tenders for 3,000 alternating current (AC) charging points and 1,000 direct current (DC) ones.

“We are looking for four-door sedans, which will run 120-150 km on a single charge,” said Saurabh Kumar, the EESL managing director. “The 1,000 vehicles acquired in the first phase will be exclusively for use by government departments in Delhi and the National Capital Region.

Similarly, 400 chargers will be provided in the first phase at different locations in Delhi-NCR. They will be deployed by NTPC and PowerGrid depending on the demand.”

The price quoted by Tata Motors were at 10.6 Lakhs and M&M at 13 Lakhs may be due to the higher range battery packs !

Mahindra eVerito can cover 110 km with complete charging. The charging would take 8 hours and 45 mins to complete from 0 to 100 percent and fast charging mode would take 1 hour and 45 minutes for charging from 0 to 80 percent.

Motive power is provided by a 72V electric motor, which produces the equivalent of 41PS of power and peak torque figure of 91Nm. Mahindra promises a top speed of 86kmph for the e-Verito.

The deal will be benefitting for the manufacturers from the Engineering & Testing point of view , may not be a profitable business going through the clauses on the deal !
