Tata Sierra EV to get 5 seater bench, 4 seater 'lounge' layouts

Martin Uhlarik, head of design at Tata Motors, spoke (with Autocar) about the interior design philosophy of the Sierra EV and said, “We wanted to make less of an automotive interior and more of a living room”. Thus, on the production version, while the company will offer a regular 5-seat version, there will also be a 4-seat lounge version, a first at this price point. Plus, there will be plenty of personalisation options available.

The two rear seats in the lounge version will be wider and pushed further back to liberate a lot of legroom. They will also be able to slide fore and aft, allowing a degree of flexibility in passenger and cargo space. The seats will be deeply contoured and have an extendable leg support or ottoman function, similar to a business class airline seat. “Think of this as the business class version,” said Uhlarik.

The design looks exactly like the concept at the auto expo 2023.It doesn't work for me. The front especially with that tubelight leds and bland faceless design is too far a departure from the impressive designs they dished out in the past few years. The Altroz, Punch and the Harrier original are ageless designs. What i can't fathom is very much the same team of course with Bose had brought in a very impressive concept which mirrored the true essence of the OG sierra. All they had to do was add four doors to it.
Mr. Martin mentioned in one of the interviews that with digitization they could omit a lot of physical property and only the final locked design was made into a physical design model. I guess with good old clay models, the designers have a lot of room to play with how the design changes affect the actual proportions of the cars unlike digital design rendering.
If anybody from Tata Motors is listening, please go to the drawing board and bring some changes to that front end. Also the fat "B" pillor looks more like a Yeti than an ode to the original Sierra. I think its too late to change that.
I think all this is a fad and these tubelight leds, lack of physical buttons and faceless car designs will fade away just like it dawned on BMW to get rid of the monster grills in their new designs.
Even the Nexon facelift doesn't work for me. You have to hunt for the headlight among all that black.
Please don't underestimate the importance the ageless designs played in the success you are enjoying today.

Tata Sierra EV launch confirmed for FY2026

sierra.jpg

Tata Motors is set to launch the much anticipated Sierra EV in India in FY2026, along with the first model from its Avinya range, the brand revealed in its investor day presentation.

The Sierra EV was first shown in concept form at Auto Expo 2020, and Tata had revealed that it was based on the Altroz’s ALFA platform. It measured 4,150mm in length, 1,820mm in width, 1,675mm in height and has a 2,450mm-long wheelbase. A second concept was then shown at Auto Expo 2023, which looked closer to being production-ready and featured a proper 5-door body instead of the unique four-door arrangement of the 2020 concept.

Tata has now confirmed that the Sierra EV will launch before March 2026. It is expected to use the brand’s Acti.EV architecture, like the Punch EV and upcoming Harrier EV, and is likely to be based on Tata’s Gen2 EV platform.

In terms of design, the Sierra EV will have some instantly recognisable cues from the original Sierra from the 90s. The signature curved-over rear-side windows, the squarish wheel arches and the high-set bonnet seen on the concept are all reminiscent of the original Sierra, and are expected to make it to production.
