Re: Tata Safari Storme Breaks Cover (Launch Coverage: Pg.322+)

Hi Guys,

I am Bugs from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. I have just joined this site and this is my very first post. [:)]

I am a big fan of off roading and own a Willys 1964, a Tata Indica and just happen to book a Tata Safari Storme Ex today! [:D]

The Storme is an amazing, mean machine! I chose to buy the Storme after trying it out to its limits, both on the high way and off road. Great handling, comfort and style along with the peace of mind that it would bring you home safe no matter what!

Storme is a Beast that would bring out the wild in you! [evil]

Today finally saw the beast in tata showroom, thane with family.
My family reactions are:-
It’s a huggggggggge car.
1st & 2nd seat have enormous space& comfort.
Solid body frame.
Color looks very rich.
Couldn’t take TD as vehicle is not yet registered with RTO.
As per SE 2000+ bookings in NORTH INDIA.
Waiting period is for one month.
Over all my family is impressed.
My four year niece like 3rd row seat, as she was seating alone. ( May be that’s why TATA still maintaining 3rd row side facing only for kids )

Come to wasan motors Chembur , they have test drive vehicle ready you can drive and enjoy the car.

@all

This is why I have been saying all the way and maybe only Gurralla supported me since he too had seen it in September the storme looks mind blowing in real . And I hope now you understand why we have been harping on the paint quality every single person who has seen the storme is appreciating it .

I have feeling the storme will have decent sales just by word to mouth .

Re: Tata Safari Storme Breaks Cover (Launch Coverage: Pg.322+)

Folks (Xover especially) happy to tell you that Tata motors (as they had promised) are giving us a Storme 4x4 for review this saturday , so we should have a detailed review by around end of next week
This auspicious news tells me head & shoulders above everything else that we as a forum have arrived on the big stage.[clap]

I think this is the first time that such a large MNC like Tata is lending us a td vehicle for a proper review ala bigger forums, this is what I always wanted from day 1.Thankfully it has happened, its better late than never they say and I fully concur.[:)]

Now back to the topic.

IR: I have one mild request(not suggestion),and its related to one doubt which I have had, here it goes:

Review of Storme 4X4 V/S Review of Storme 4x2

All the folks that have reviewed Storme 4x4 have concluded that:

1. There is plenty of body roll.

2. Low end torque is not adequate.

3. Too much pitching as the suspension is very soft.

Now compare this with the impressions of all those people that have reviewed Storme 4x2(members of our forum and outside):

1. There is negligible body roll.

2. Low end grunt is very good.

3. Suspension feels stiff.

And these things are just not coincidence, almost every review of Storme 4x4 talks about the same, whilst every single review of Storme 4x2 talks things on the contrary.

Now this contradiction in the 4x4 vis-a-vis 4x2's review may be because:

1.Tata has deliberately tuned 4x4 Storme's suspension little softly owning to its off-road usage versus the usage of 4x2 Storme, thus they may have tuned 4x2 Storme's suspension little stiffly for better on-road dynamics.

2. The 100 kg extra weight of the 4x4 is the culprit in variable conclusions.

Just because of this doubt what I request to you is that even though your basic review maybe about Storme 4x2,but can you arrange a samall td of Storme 4x2 and write your impressions about it in the basic review itself(just a small para).

It will help us understand the difference(if any) between 4x4 anbd 4x2 Stormes little better. What say?

Re: Tata Safari Storme Breaks Cover (Launch Coverage: Pg.322+)

Hi Xover , its indeed strange to hear these differences but to be honest i think its highly unlikely Tata would have kept a different state of tune for suspension, engine maps, anti roll bars/weight distribution. 100 kg weight difference largely spanning the underbody should have negligible impact as far as dynamics go, yes some decimal seconds difference for a 0-100 , but beyond that i think its highly improbable, after all 100 kg is just a passenger weight (err a healthy one ) - plus its unlikely a manufacture would make such changes and add complexity to the production line conundrums. So ill take the above differences as merely individual perceptions and rather approach our review with a blank state of mind!

But i will try to TD a 4x2 later.

@ IR:

Thanks buddy.Yes please TD a 4x2 Storme as well before publishing the comprehensive report to slay any doubts we have in our mind.[:)]

EDIT: IR, 4X4 is really little different.Even the front disc brakes of 4X4 are little larger than those of 4x2.Please check the service book, when you'll get the vehicle tommorow.

@Raja & Others

Have you folks felt any severe nose dive whilst heavy braking in Storme?

It does a bit , and belive me there is also body roll but not as bad as the Scorpio and 2.2dicor . The body roll is controlled but not eliminated .

The best thing IMHO about storme is inspite of being a huge car its easy to drive , and I drove it in tight bumper to bumper traffic and I kept thanking tata for the light clutch .
The car without any issues or knocking can be driven at a speed of 25-30 in 4th gear .

Later on sat or Sunday I and dharmesh will meet and drive it so dharmesh also can share his impressions .

And if all goes well sanjaysg might come to Mumbai tomorrow to meet me in his storme [clap]

Nose dive would always be there in vehicles of this size. But, I can certainly say that it was no where near severe. It was there but very acceptable, rather lesser that Scorpio and old gen Safari.

I braked at 120 it was just perfect.what you expect? if its doesnt dive( offcourse NOT nose dive like ) means you have hard suspension.

Re: Tata Safari Storme Breaks Cover (Launch Coverage: Pg.322+)

@xover ,mixed thoguht might be due to the fact that Indian masses are used to supermini cars and Hatcbacks.
I for once lend my Punto to a i10 owner and he complained stiff uncomfortable ride and hard faulty steering.

Suv's will always have body roll , I cant go above 40kmph in a typical Suv where my punto can pass it at 70kmph
