Re: TATA Safari EX (Pearl White) - Coming Home Soon!

Thanks buddy. Try refreshing the page, it should be bigger now.

The drive from Calicut to Bangalore was awesome [:)] Turbo charger kicks in some where around 2000 RPM. After that the 2.2 Dicore engine just takes off! I mean, you can really feel the power. Its highly responsive and powerful. I dont have to tell this, I know. Still, Safari is very stable and the braking is really good. I had 2 great experiences on the way [;)] I am still enjoying our new ride. Will post more details on the way.
Hey congrats finallyyyyyyyyyyyyy you put the pics it is as ever looking classy, regal and elegant.
If you don't mind can I be a little critical ? I dint like front guard somewhat it spoils the classy front look of the safari . But if you and your family like the look it's great that's what is more imp.
How was the driving experience ? Any kind of surprises ?

Yes, I agree. In fact I myself feel like its over sized. That one came for free. Since its around 10K, I thought of fitting it. I need to exchange it with a relatively smaller one.

I didnt like the steering cover.
Is it? Its just a pullover type cover and can be removed any time. I personally prefer a heavy/thick steering. I felt the steering in Safari is not thick. So thought of increasing the thickness, at the same time I wanted some thing which can be removed easily. So this cover was the only option available in the showroom. Its around Rs. 300 /- only.

Congrats Shynish. Safari looks beautiful in white. You got market discount plus the employee discount ? i thought we can't avail both!
Nope buddy, I didn't avail the corporate discount as I wanted the car in my wife's name. But altogether I got a discount of Rs, 81, 500 /-, which I think is a good offer.

How was the driving experience ? Any kind of surprises ?
Driving is pleasure man! I love it on highways. Its not that difficult to manage in cities. But I am worried about the bikes and autos who doesn't bother about the traffic rules at all. Safari will help you to increase the patience if you drive it in cities [;)] During my trip from Calicut to Banagalore, I tried pushing it a little bit to see the performance. Honestly, if you want to engage the fifth gear and drive comfortably, the car should be at least at 80 to 90 Km/H. I feel that's the comfortable zone. On highways, we should really watch the speed as it will not give any vibration or scene of speed if you are driving with AC on. At one point of time I was driving at 135 Km/H and I realized it when my wife blasted me. Its a true pleasure to drive and the commanding seating position will boost up your confidence. I happen to do 2 sharp & sudden breaking too during the drive. I was very happy about the way it came to stop with our any deviation from the driving line. It was at the speed of 90 Km/H. The first instance was in a turning in Bandipur forest. A bus came in wrong direction as he wanted to avoid some small gutters. The second instance was on a straight highway road. Hopeless police guys on a patrolling bike just took a U turn with out any signals. That was a narrow escapes however. But I was happy with the breaking performance during both the instances.

Re: TATA Safari EX (Pearl White) - Coming Home Soon!

Please follow the run in period religiously and don't exceed it over the prescribed rpms in the manual. And also do religiously do the 30 sec idlying before starting your day and in the end when you will come home for the turbos health .

Oh and yes safari gives you a invincible feeling as if your a king of road , and the best part is how comfertable you feel and seat it's like having 140 BHP power in your hands while seating on a sofa seat [clap]

How is the build quality , plastics hope they are upto the mark and no surprises from tata in this matter, and most IMP please update the thread as much as possible ,atleast I will be glued to this thread and iam sure many others too.

Re: TATA Safari EX (Pearl White) - Coming Home Soon!

Have Happy Roadmiles with your caaaar! Some must do's:

1) Opt for the extended Warranty you would be a Happy customer after your warranty expires.

2) Follow the run-in properly, don't cross 2K rpm till first 1500 Kms and then till 3,000 Kms stick to 3K rpm. 30 seconds IDLE whenever the car (leaving short stops of 1 Hour), is started and before switching off 30 secs IDLE time is must if you don't want to fry a chicken on the hot turbo.

3) Opt for the AMC if your car is going to travel alot.

4) Read the service manual and follow the service intervals/parts change time to time, if you want to avail the benefit of Warranty and Extended Warranty, the companies are too strict that if you did'nt follow smallest of a change they will do every possible thing to push your car out of warranty.

5) The 15 seconds change-over time for the reverse camera is too much.

6) Be ready for niggles; some common issues are rattling of doors, khat-khat sound on full turning of wheels, hisss... phissss sounds from the steering, some surprise visits to the SC and surprises from the electrical department of this very Indian caaaar! Its a caaaaar of issues for those who handle it like hell and for some unfortunate honestly maintaining owners too. It's in the DNA of T*T*.

7) If your car came with Apollos change them straightaway they are the worst I have experienced, I have Michelin LTX and they are so far the best (except for Michelin AT and Conti's) for Safari I have opted for, although they are prone to attract nails like magnet, I have 20 punctures in all 4 tyres in span of 35K kms.[frustration] Too soft for bad roads! The Michelin AT, if you want a smoother ride quality.

PS: Is'nt EX comes with Alloy wheels?

I differ here, the issues have already been sorted out since the early owners were the guinea-pigs for 2.2 Dicor. The turbo failure, sensors malfunctioning very often, engine seizing, EGR issues were very common with the 2007-2009 DICORs. I don't know if the QC at Tata has improved or not; but Yes, the current 2.2's have far less issues thanks to those loyal guinea-pigs([frustration]).

@ Raja:

Thanks for the tip on idlying the engines. I will take care of the same. In fact, I have used around 600 KM only. The first service is due @ 1000 Km or First month which ever is earlier. IMO, build quality has improved considerably. At least I am happy with it - whether it is th ebody finish, gaps between the pannels, or interior. FIAT and JLR influence is visible on almost all the TATA vehicles now. Safari interior plastic quality has improved a lot from the past from sure. The Fabric quality is also in par with other brands. I guess, TATA being an Indian company and the bad name it has created for itself in the past is still lingering. What ever considerable improvement are there, it is not valued as it should be. For example, take the Safari design itself. The A-piller desgin is one of the safest accepted design. We generally term TATA service as expensive. On the other hand if you see which company offers you cheap service? I have a Ford Figo, and I am getting an average bill of 7K per service. So I feel, it all depends up on the way we use and maintain the vehicle. I am quiet happy with the Dicore 2.2 engine and its performance so far, though its too early to comment like this.

I will keep updating the thread for sure buddy. I hope more and more people will have "courage" to buy Safari [:)]

@ mercedised:

Thanks for the tips buddy. I have opted for the extended warranty, I knew it is essential! Thanks a lot on the engine idlying tip, thats really helpful. I am not going to travel a lot, its purely for personal use and I think I can skip the AMC. I have to read the manual carefuly for sure. The details of the issue you were mentioning are little bit scary, but now has to manage it [:)] Having said that so far I have not got any problems, though it too early to comment like that. I feel like the 2012 production has considerably improved and as I was telling earlier the FIAT & JLR influence is visible in TATA. One of the service manager (was introduced personally through one of my friend) was telling me that the 2.2 Dicore engine is tuned by FIAT team. Openly admitting the issues in the older versions of safari, he also said that the current versions are really refined and there are hardly any issues with mechanical components. I really hope that its true. Yes, what you guessed is true, I have Appollo tyres man! Are serious about that, should I really need to change? I am thinking to wait and see how its gonna behave!

Over all, I feel like Safari has improved a lot in terms of build quality, plastic quality, interiors, fit and finish.

Re: TATA Safari EX (Pearl White) - Coming Home Soon!

I asked you because I too have noticed the same people who have bought safari since last year are extremely happy and are not reporting any major issues .
Iam seriously interested in safari and I have that option in my list of cars but since I will be upgrading only next year I have good time to see how the strome behaves too if it's not worth the hype then iam going to seriously think about the current safari . Wish you super happy ownership .
I allways tell this to every tata owner here on the forum report and update the thread because the kind of bad mouthing happens about tata cars is extreme and only when owners like you report and update the thread we can cut the crap and prospective owners can seriously consider tata as a option .
Iam not a tata fanboy or ever owned a tata vehicle but iam seriously against bad mouthing a company just because of what everybody say.
It's fashion this days to say ohhhh maruti is greatest and tata are the worst .
