Did you try the sport mode? If yes did you feel a perceptible difference in the engine response? How many people were there when you test drove it? Was the A/C switched on?
The test drive was conducted with 4 total members in the car with A/c on.
Yes i did try the Sport mode too, and it just made the gears hold longer and felt a ''wee bit'' more responsive and nothing dramatic. From my experience i prefer to use the Sport mode more often than the normal mode. The normal mode is tuned for economy and hence you will see quick gear up-shifts.

@GrandRK: You are right in your thoughts. This is in-correct to tag a car as cheap car. Its a low cost car basically with limited capability and targeted at a particular segment. This doesn't mean a Nano owner is a poor chap:) Everyone has different purposes to drive a Nano!

If you read my last post, I already mentioned that I have tested out both Alto K10AMT and Nano AMT (I guess you are aware that Nano AMT = Nano Gen x version itself). Build quality doesn't just mean to use a thick sheet metal. As I opened the door of the Gen x AMT Nano, it straight away felt very loose and light and opened up without any intermediate stops, which is not confidence inspiring. Forget about the drive-ability, I felt it sluggish on a very minimal inclined road. Again, this just my perspective and not intended to any one in personal.
TATA NANO Doors feels light opens without any intermediate stops beacuse it deosnt have any door holders on NANO doors generally door holders are used to perform intermediate stops to balance the door but nano have just door hings thats the reason it feels light but safety vice still have strong body dont blindly judge on safety we have understand mechanical parts of nano its a master piece in world of automobile [:)]

Thank you for the information sir! No more comments..[roll]

I request all my fellow members here to go through the below URL to see, what one of our TAI'n has to say about the New Nano Gen X AMT, and I agree with his view as I did feel the same while i test drove it a few days ago.

Hi All,
If I was given a choice I would go for MARUTI ALTO K10 AUTO GEAR SHIFT

TATA NANO GenX Easy Shift - With the AMT option available now its a very good package at that price but I owning a (2012 LX) nano personally do not vote for nano, mainly because of its sound, manual transmission itself was having a lot of engine noice and now with the AMT I'm very sure this is going to be still more, The other reason is the stability of the car is a major concern when compared to the other cars in this league. Ok, i do agree its a city car but imagine you are going to your office near electronic city in bangalore using nice road, as soon you reach 100 the yellow light keeps glowing and the front tyres are way too skinny, Wish tata had increased the front tyre size. Next concern would be the durability of AMT, i ask this mainly because of the bad clutch experiences with my old nano, almost every year I get the clutch cable/set changed during the service, If I ask service advisors regarding this the answer I get is this is usual in NANO sir. So I dont know tomorrow they come up with something and say in AMT transmission this is common sir

MARUTI ALTO K10 AUTO GEAR SHIFT - I have voted for this and I personally feel this is a good value for money. I had got a chance to drive my cousins Alto AMT, Its pick up is really good I dont feel any lag in the pick up {The best city as well as highway car}, The only thing we can consider as a negative is the space inside the cabin. Its too cramped

MARUTI CELERIO AUTO GEAR SHIFT - If you want more space and have a bit more money to shell out then this is an elder brother of alto, Its the same engine as alto but you dont feel that crampness as we would feel in alto

RENAULT KWID AMT - Sorry no idea about this :(

You seem to be either an unlucky customer or have a strongly biased opinion. I purchased a Nano Twist XT last August. Before purchasing I had enquired about experiences of other Nano users, who have been using the car since 3 or 4 years. They had given a big thumps-up for the Nano's reliability & efficiency. My Twist has completed over 10,600 kms in just 10 months. Not a single problem to date. I have even purchased the Gold AMC for 3 years/30,000 kms for just Rs.5,800/-. This gives me complete maintenance-related peace of mind till 30,000 kms. I have used it on highways as well in city and in my small town. The Nano is near-perfect for in-city & town use. On the highways, it does need some compromises & adjustments. Most people seem to be stuck with the 'No-disc brake' mindset. The Nano's current drum-brakes are perfectly enough for the kind of power it generates.

The engine noise isn't much inside the cabin, especially with the AC On. You are clearly exaggerating the noise problem without even experiencing the latest Nano models. All that the Nano now needs to make it a perfect car is a little extra power for better acceleration on the highways. With extra power, it might need extra braking too.

I feel the performance with 2 people on board and with sports mode selected is more than enough for our bumper to bumper city traffic upto 80 kmph. The reason for difference in performance with 2 people compared to 4 is because of lesser torque of the small displacement engine. Nano has a benefit of a higher seating position when compared to an Alto K10 which will become apparent at night when the oncoming headlights won't hurt your eyes that much. All in all a perfect commuter if not an exciting drive.

Hi m_sherbet,
Nice to know about your good ownership experience[:D], I could consider myself for being unlucky[anger] for buying the 1st gen nano, Since yours is Nano Twist XT there were few changes that Tata had done in twist version to overcome the 1st gen problems.
Regarding engine sound I'm not exaggerating but its the fact, I did take a test drive of the new nano last week, the engine noise is slightly reduced when compared to the previous versions but still its pretty loud.

Hello guys, took the delivery of my New Alto K10 AMT white today at 13:30 hours. The initial drive from the showroom to home was good except for a bumpy ride due to 45psi Tyre pressure set by the dealer. Filled it up with Nitrogen @33psi and now the ride is supremely absorbent in the city. The AMT works flawlessly and the up-shifts can be felt if you floor the throttle pedal for a good 0.5 seconds otherwise works pretty much like a conventional automatic. Haven't tried the manual mode yet.
Will post a detailed ownership report after a few hundred kilometers. Here are some pics and please do pardon me for the poor quality pics as they were taken from my note and have been downsized to fit within the uploading limits.

Just a thought. Where will the new Tata Kite slot in. Rival to Kwid/Celerio and will be miles ahead of Alto for sure. Possible AMT option and some fantastic styling. BTW Nano is heavier than Alto and Kwid is lighter than Alto. How these companies are reducing weight..? Bit of concern !

It will slot into the area where the i10 Grand is. Between Celerio/Kwid and Swift/Bolt.

All speculations about Kwid come to rest since the bookings have already crossed 50k mark. Now who cares to compare it with maruti or Hyundai, bookings say it all.
