Yes people regard Tata but don't buy Tata. Whats the point of this. Its better to be Maruti, people call it names but still like sheep go on buying tin cans. They are making the most important thing. Moolah. If this continues, Tatas will have trophy but will shut shop. That is last thing I want. They need to do some out of the box thinking to make their cars sell.

Tata to have 1,000 variants, 400 new product programmes by April 2020

tata-harrier-new-variants.jpg

Tata Motors has decided to do just that by discontinuing 140 models when it shifts its portfolio to BS-VI. Discontinued Tata vehicles will include several of its trucks, buses and passenger cars. After 140 models will be discontinued, Tata Motors will be able to focus exclusively on 400 new products and around 1,000 variants. The trimmed portfolio will not only help reduce costs, but also allow the company to achiever faster time to market and higher commonisation.

Altogether, Tata Motors will be upgrading 40 different powertrain combinations for all engines with 1.0 – 5.9 litre capacity. Engine types include diesel, petrol, CNG and LPG that come with options of manual, automatic and automated manual transmission. In doing so, the company would have made massive investments of around Rs 2,500 crore. This would be the largest investment made by the company in terms of vehicle development.

Tata Motors sales decline takes toll – To offer VRS to 1,600 employees

tata-altroz-launch-price-india.jpg

Tata’s next launch, Altroz.

Tata Motors’ employee cost as percentage of net sales in the September quarter increased to 10.7 percent as against 5.9 percent seen in the same period of the previous year. The company’s stand alone net sales dipped 44 percent while net losses escalated to Rs.1,281.97 crores as compared to profits of Rs.109.14 crores gained in the same period of the previous year.

The new emission norms coming into effect from 1st April 2020 are also set to add to company woes as the updating to BS6 standards will bring with it higher prices. In the case of heavy and commercial vehicles, sales in the September quarter dipped 59 percent while overall sales dipped 41.2 percent and with the coming of BS6 norms, demand in this segment is expected to dip even further in the coming months.

Tata Motors to skip 2020 Geneva motor show

.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20191206105424_Tata-at-2019-Geneva-ex.jpg

For the first time in recent history, Tata Motors will not be participating in the 2020 Geneva motor show. The home-grown carmaker has been a fixture at the annual Geneva show since 1998, where company head Ratan Tata – with the help of the newly crowned Miss World Diana Hayden – introduced the Tata brand (and India's first indigenously developed car, the Indica) to the world. While only a bit player in Europe, the carmaker has leveraged the Geneva International Motor Show to showcase its products. Models like the Aria coupé, Indigo Marina estate – and more recently, the Hexa, Tamo Racemo EV, EVision sedan, Altroz and Buzzard (recently christened Gravitas) – got their first showing at Geneva.

New LR SUV built on Harrier Platform / Tata and LR developing a new SUV

This isn’t the first time we are hearing of a low-cost Land Rover SUV internally called Land Rover L860 and slotted below the Land Rover Discovery Sport. A few years ago, it was said that Land Rover planned to manufacture this model in India but had changed its mind in late-2016 fearing the consequences of Brexit and trade war sparked by the Trump administration. In 2017, it was reported that the Land Rover L860 will probably be manufactured either at the Halewood plant in the UK or the new Nitra plant in Slovakia.

New Development

Even though the Land Rover L860 may not be built as cost-efficiently as originally planned (alongside the Tata Harrier in India), it'll still hold great potential for increasing Land Rover's sales significantly. That's because the plan still involves the usage of the same low-cost platform. Developed on the basis of the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque's D8 platform, this platform is internally called ‘D10'.

The Land Rover 860 will be a more sophisticated product than the Tata Harrier, obviously. Expected to cost nearly 50% more than the Tata Harrier (INR 12,99,755* onwards in India) in Europe, it'll pack a lot more safety features and a better mechanical setup. Its front subframe will be significantly more refined. Moreover, it will have a Land Rover-specific front suspension system.

The Land Rover L860 should be offered with 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium engines. Mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid eco-friendly technologies are also expected.

Debut Timeline

The Land Rover 860 will now reportedly break cover in 2021. Expect it to be launched in India a year later, with the possibility of local manufacturing for domestic sales and maybe exports to select markets.

Now what I feel is that, Though this will be a entry level suv, Tata should use this opportunity to launch a sub premium brand like the Rover in the country. Don't know whether that would make it to light.
