Tata H2X SUV Will be Made At Sanand; Tata Motors To Split Production By Platform

kjfv173g_tata-h2x-sanand_625x300_14_March_19.jpg

The upcoming Tata H2X SUV - often referred to as the Tata Hornbill too - will be made at the company's more modern manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This is in line with a larger strategy that will see production eventually being split across just two platforms. "Sanand is going to be a dedicated Alfa architecture plant for the lower-end of the product portfolio. We currently also produce the Tiago and Tigor - which will undergo a mid-cycle enhancement, so there we still have some time - and then we will see how this is going to translate" said Guenter Butschek, CEO, Tata Motors while speaking to carandbike in Geneva. So while the X0 platform based Tiago and Tigor will likely continue till about 2022-23, they too will eventually move to the next generation model lines on the Alfa platform.

Tata Altroz, H2X, Buzzard, Harrier are built to meet 5 star safety in crash test

tata-altroz-hd-exterior-interiors-launch-price-12.jpg

The cars that the company builds will not only achieve a 5 Star rating according to Global NCAP standards but will also exceed the country’s minimum safety rating as prescribed in India’s new safety norms. Tata Motors MD, Guenter Butschek told Economic Times, “If there is a star, I would like to have five of them on safety. That is the new normal for vehicles at Tata Motors.” With this target, Tata Motors could gain an edge over leading automakers in the country such as Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai and could soon see market share cross the double digit mark.

After the volumes success of the Tata Tiago and Tata Nexon, the Indian carmaker is now eyeing an even larger volumes play - the entry hatchback. This is a segment that sits below the Tiago. It can be argued that Tata has had a presence there with the Indica and Nano. But there has never been a true entry hatch from Tata Motors.
