I guess another new engine will come from Nano too. There is a thread on the 3 cylinder Nano.

No matter what that TATA plonk into their present cars,it won't do anything to the sales. Can you TATA please stop these cars and bring in cars which makes you turn your heads, like an Evoque or so.With the JLR team at hand why can't they put them to use?

Dam excited for the Revotron Engine. Tata's have really come up with something new. This is definitely going to be a great news for all the people who are looking for a low maintenance car with proper power and performance. Looking forward for the launch of Falcons.

Re: Tata launches the all new Series of engines-REVOTRON

We did ask the questions on your behalf to the Tata Motors Engine Development team but they were very tight lipped on the matters and answered the questions as follows.

About the engines they are not disclosing any details of the other engines that are in line up. They are just answering about the one that they have just launched 1.2 Liter turbocharged engine. But they do have a couple of engines in the line up 3 & 4 Cylinders for which we will have to wait till they are launched.

About the 6 speed gear box they have not clearly confirmed but yes they are working on the new gearbox technology, as of for the 1.2 liter Turbocharged petrol engine is mated to the present setup of gearbox.

About Tata not Introducing the Aluminium Engines was answered by saying that work is currently going on in the R&D department and much cannot be disclosed at the moment.
Thank you very much for carrying my set of questions. Waiting for 6 speed gearbox.

I hope the same engine jacks up to 100 bhp coupled to the 6 speed box for the Sub 4 meter SUV I expect to be the showstopper this Autoexpo.

Re: Tata Motors introduces 1.2 Liter Revotron engine (water-cooled turbocharger )

@TAUREAN CZAR: Lot of efforts taken by me and my friend in trying to get out the future plans about the engines but the officials were very much quiet on the questions not related to the Engine launched.

The officials were asked if the engine was going to be used for the present set of tata cars but the reply was that if the engine is new so will the vehicle be a new one. Mostly they are going to launch it during the Delhi Autoexpo.
About the gearbox they did not confirm anything about the 6 speed gearbox but told that a new set-up is in progress to bring out the optimum power and performance from the other set of new engines. however the 1.2 Litre Turbocharged petrol which they launched have been mated with the present set of gear box being used in the present cars of Tata.

No word on the other engines that are going to be launched but there are sets of 3 & 4 Cylinder engines in lineup.

Tata is really struggling hard to change its present situation in the Petrol segment of vehicles.

Re: Tata Motors introduces 1.2 Liter Revotron engine (water-cooled turbocharger )

Tata Revotron 1.2T versus rivals, engine comparison | Car News | Premium hatchbacks | Autocar India

Tata Revotron 1.2T 1,193cc, 4 cyl, turbo 83.8bhp at 5,000rpm 14.3kgm at 1,750-3,500rpm.

Tata Xeta 1.2 1,193cc, 4 cyl 64bhp at 5,000rpm 10.2kgm at 2,600rpm

Maruti K12 1,197cc, 4 cyl, VVT 85.8bhp at 6,000rpm 11.6kgm at 4,000rpm

VW 1.2 TSI 1,197cc, 4 cyl, direct injection, turbo 103bhp at 5,000rpm 17.84kgm at 1,500-4,100rpm.

VW 1.2 1,198cc, 3 cyl 74bhp at 5,400rpm 11.2kgm at 3,750rpm

Hyundai 1.2 Kappa2 1,197cc, 4 cyl, VVT 81.8bhp at 6,000rpm 11.6kgm at 4,000rpm

Honda 1.2 i-VTEC 1,198cc, 4 cyl, VVT 88bhp at 6,000rpm 11.1kgm at 4,600rpm

Toyota 1.2 1,197cc, 4 cyl 79bhp at 5,600rpm 10.6kgm at 3,100rpm

Chevrolet 1.2 1,199cc, 4 cyl 84.8bhp at 6,000rpm 11.5kgm at 5,000rpm

Fiat 1.2 FIRE 1,172cc, 4 cyl 67bhp at 6,000rpm 9.76kgm at 4,400rpm

Ford 1.2 Duratec 1,196cc, 4 cyl 70bhp at 6,250rpm 10.4kgm at 4,000rpm

Nissan 1.2 1,198cc, 3 cyl 75bhp at 6,000rpm 10.6kgm at 4,000rpm

The less noticed but arguably more significant performance figure in the real world is the torque output, and here’s where Tata’s new engine has the others beaten. It produces a meaty 14.3kgm from as low as 1,750rpm to 3,500rpm. The average max torque the naturally aspirated engines on this list produce is about 11kgm, and you have to rev most of them all the way to about 4,000rpm to reach it. [:)]

I totally agree with you. It's actually carries good and competitive figures compared to rivals. TATA engineers surely need a kudos for the engine. Hope they mate it well to get the max juice out of this new piece.

Well done job!

Also kudos to you too for bringing before us this spec sheet.

The Engine is really a great one. Kudos to Tata. Torque 14.3kgm at 1750 RPM is really fantastic.
The only engine currently in market that beats Revotron is of VW TSI.
Also the name is also very very catchy.

Now we will have cars saying Revotron Inside.

I would vote for Revotron as engine of the year.

Re: Tata Motors introduces 1.2 Liter Revotron engine (water-cooled turbocharger )

Although the above comparison is great, but dont you think it is unfair to compare the turbo charged petrol engine to NA petrol engine?
yes when we compare with turbo charged engine to NA petrol engine power Output is unfair but here we have to note few things about what kind of technology they are used to pump out more power from 1200cc petrol motors like Maruti's K12 and Hyundai's kappa2 engines uses 16valves, DOHC with VVT thats why they are able to produce more power but these engines are little bit heavy in repair and maintanance cost while campare to 8valves non VVT engines.

when comming to TATA's REVOTRON 1.2T engine uses 8valves, SOHC, Turbocharged engine its cost effective engine reduces repair cost.

thats the main reason revotron engine produces only 85bhp with 14.3kgm torque is massuve.

If tata can able to implement 16valves, DOHC, VVT technology in revotron 1.2T engines means these engines can able to generate more around 100 to 115BHP and 17.6kgm of torque [clap] and tata already working 16valves,DOHC, VVT version of this engine is in under devlopment stage.

TATA MOTORS had a bad run in 2012-13. It was evident in the Geneva Motor show in 2013 where it did not show any new vehicle/concept. Also the TATA MOTORS venue was never as dull as then.

Autoexpo '14 is expected to carry lots of expectations and colours. I am sure TATA will pull up a good show. I hope most of us will get some products which we will surely be able to pickup.

Whenever TML comes with something critics will start to find out the shortcomings. "REVOTRON" is an engine family and 1.2T is the first one to come out of it. Everyone is focussing on 85 PS.

How do you feel when your first budget-family car is a turbo charged petrol..?? [:)] They are known for "more car per car" strategy. I wish it become "more engine per car.." [:D]

By the way how it feels.. "Tim Leverton & the Revotron"..!! [;)]

REVOTRON as reported is not a single engine, but a series. It's a pack of 5 engines of which 1.2 is the first. Others will be unveiled later at appropriate time.

A sub 1 liter engine is reportedly also in the pipeline and will be unveiled soon. Hope it makes it's debut in the bigger Nano, showcased in the '12 Geneva Motor Show away not in the current Nano.
