Tata Motors has dropped a new teaser of its upcoming model which is going to make its India debut on April 6. What's confirmed is that this new model will be an electric vehicle (EV) joining the Tata Nexon EV and Tigor EV in its all-electric range, however, it's yet to share details related to the model. The company has been testing a slew of new EVs including the Tata Nexon EV Extended Range, Tata Altroz EV and even a battery powered derivative of the Tata Punch, which is expected to go on sale this year itself.

While the Tata Nexon extended range was expected to go on sale in India in April this year, even the Tata Punch was expected to break cover around the same time and so it is a bit difficult to speculate. The new Tata Punch too shares the ALFA architecture with the Altroz and we already know that the platform is ready for EVs. While it is still early to comment on the technical specification, Tata has already confirmed that all its future electric vehicles will use the Ziptron powertrain technology. So, the car will come with a Lithium-Ion battery pack which will have IP-67 certification and 8-years warranty and will deliver a drive range of above 250 km.

Having said that, if this new model will be the Tata Nexon EV, it will come with a bigger 40 kWh battery pack replacing the 30.2 kWh unit in the current model. The claimed drive range is expected to a bump up of around 100 km with a claimed drive range of over 400 km from 312 km on the existing model, while we can expect a real-world drive range of around 325 km. The new Tata Nexon EV is also expected to be equipped with premium features like ventilated seats and auto-dimming rear view mirrors among others.

Well it seems to be coupe concept from the angles of teaser images. but from the front outline it looked to me Sierra concept.

Now since this is also a concept as per what I have read i am making following argument : I am not interested in looking at yet another Sierra concept or for that matter, Again launching Sierra Concept will make no sense. So in that sense I feel its the Nexon Coupe Concept. This i believe will be the first output by Martin Ulharik post Pratap Bose era. So I am really excited to see it. If Martin is able to bring out squarish looking Coupe then i must say that he would have hit it out of the park. But all the same let wait for tomorrow.

Tata Concept Curvv Electric SUV unveiled in India

Tata Motors has unveiled a special electric SUV concept in India called Tata Curvv Electric SUV. While Tata Motors is planning to launch a long range Nexon EV and Altroz EV in the coming days, the new SUV concept highlights the brand's future perspective on the EVs. As per Tata Motors, the Curvv will be electric first SUV and will later get petrol and diesel engine options.
Tata-Curvv.jpg

Tata Curvv is designed with a coupe roofline and is an evolution of Tata Sierra EV concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. As per Tata, the Curvv will be placed above the mid-size SUV and below the premium SUV segment. In its second gen, it can have a range as high as 500 km on a single charge.

As per the teaser film for this next electric concept car, there are some hints concerning the outside appearance. It provides a peek of the front, which has LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) that extend across the width of the bonnet crease, through the side, and into the ORVMs. The primary headlights are located on the bumper of the vehicle. The headlight unit is housed in a triangle-shaped casing.

The grey machine-cut alloy wheels are also seen in the teaser. Tata and EV logos are emblazoned on the vehicle's backside. With its curved back windshield and sleek roof-mounted spoiler seen in the teaser, it is fascinating.

The X1 platform that supports the Nexon will be used for this model. The back doors will be longer, the roof will be tapered, and the whole back end will be redesigned with a longer overhang. The wheelbase is expected to rise by around 50 millimetres. It is projected to be around 4.3 metres long.

A 40kWh battery pack and 400km range had previously been rumoured for the upcoming Tata Coupe SUV. The SUV will also be available with fuel-efficient, turbo-charged petrol and diesel engines.

As part of the 2020 Auto Expo, Tata Motors unveiled its Sierra EV concept car. Like the Sierra, the new teaser has a few design cues. The Sierra EV concept's LED daytime running lights and front headlamps are reminiscent of each other.

It does look like an elongated NEXON but it surely sits on the Modular ALFA architecture.
The company has not declared on which platform this sits and we did not get any further details on the concept.

Tata Curvv electric SUV Concept: All you need to know

ecfob5a_tata-curvv-ev_625x300_06_April_22.jpg

Tata Motors takes yet another step forward in the market and introduces a concept version of its next big product. Called the Tata Curvv SUV, the concept will be launched in the mid-sized SUV segment, to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, as well as the Skoda Kushaq. Interestingly, the upcoming Tata Curvv SUV will be first launched in its electric avatar, followed by the petrol and diesel versions. However, the fact that the Tata Curvv Electric SUV Concept will be based on the Generation 2 EV architecture and uses Tata's new digital design language. Now, there are tons to talk about the new Tata Curvv electric SUV concept, so scroll on.

The new Tata Curvv EV is a concept car, but the official name of the production version of the mid-sized SUV coupe will be announced closer to its launch in 2024. Upon launch, the Tata Curvv EV will be positioned above the Tata Nexon EV in the company's EV lineup. The launch of the EV version will be followed by the introduction of the petrol & diesel-powered models.

The profile looks even more persuasive, with the sloping roofline integrated into the boot with a strong character line running from the front fender to the C-Pillar above the squared-off wheel arches. You also find the EV badge on the body of the door. The side claddings are blacked out, adding to its ruggedness. The design on the wheels is quite stylish.

The ORVMs are digital, camera-based mirror systems, like what we had seen on the Audi e-Tron concept, but sadly, will not be carried to the production version.

The interior of the Tata Curvv electric SUV concept is straight out of a Sci-Fi movie. It looks futuristic with a good amount of fabric used for the upholstery, elevating the overall vibe of the cabin. The design is clean and follows the same minimalistic approach from the outside.

The three-layered dashboard consists of an LED light strip running the girth of the cabin, along with an angular lower section that houses the climate control at the centre.

The centre console features a rotary knob to toggle between different drive modes. The two free-standing digital screens are the key elements here, as one screen houses the touchscreen infotainment system, while the other is for the instrument cluster, behind the two-spoke steering wheel. This new-gen steering wheel will also be seen on all new products from Tata, with a backlit logo as seen here.

As is typical with any latest Tata car, the upcoming Tata Curvv electric SUV concept will also be equipped with all the bells & whistles that the company offers, with even more advanced tech said to be considered. Obviously, the company did not reveal much about this, the new Tata Curvv electric SUV concept will be underpinned by Tata's Generation 2 EV architecture, which will also spawn multiple body styles, and accommodate several powertrain options.

So expect Tata to heavily develop this platform, meaning we could also see present EVs from the company would get larger battery packs. Tata said the platform can also be fitted with a dual-motor set-up offering more range than any other product in the market, as well as feature an all-wheel-drive layout. The production version of the Tata Curvv concept EV will achieve a certified range of 400-500km.

This is indeed the Nexon Coupe. If you look closely, ABC pillars are so very close to Nexon. From the interviews, Martin Uhlarik confirms that 97% of this will get into production (probably the exterior). Two tablets and digital steering wheel, touch HVAC all are going into the final product. ICE version will have a different face to incorporate functional grille and air dams.

And this will be probably in the X1 platform elongated to 4.3 m. Project started 18 months back and we may assume at that time Sigma (Electricied ALFA arc) was not there in picture. All these things were back in the table only after they got the required funding from TPG climate for the EV subsidiary TPEML.

Not too happy with the overall finer elements, especially considering the previous concepts have been so good. Even the Sierra concept was bang on, the way the long led were designed mimicking a front grill outline, that was a design to behold in the Sierra ev concept.
Here I feel Martin tried to stamp his uniqueness to the design, taking the design in a significantly different direction which is really not required since he was very much a part and parcel of the previous great designs.
Why fix when it aint broke. The current steering wheel was just fine, why go with a retro themed one that too with a backlit logo. God forbid if that logo starts flickering, its upto TASS technicians to fiddle with the steering wheel. All the best.
Not a fan of the oversimplified interiors as well. The two tablets slapped on are an eye sore. Oh ya touch controls for most of the functions, so we can take our eyes of the road for even the minutest of functions. One thing i absolutely hate in the Tigor are these kind of buttons in the non touch screen ICE versions. Again why fix it when it aint broke.
All in all it seems a mix of Urus, Audi etron BMW X6 with Tesla kind of interiors to boot.
If the thinking behind all this is to reduce weight to enhance range, still you have to make the customer interested in the car first. I am expecting some changes in a positive direction before the production model is finalised.

It is confirmed that the this project is based on Gen 2 architecture, that is ALFA platform and not the Gen 1 Nexon platform. Sigma is 3rd Gen Platform that will be a skateboard platform only for electric and will not have space for ICE engines, thought it will be a heavily based on Gen 2 ALFA architecture platform.

No. Skateboard has no roots to any ICE platforms. Sigma is modified ALFA and still not developed yet. They mentioned it as 'Gen 2 "EV" architecture' that is more related to the electric components, battery capacity, connected tech etc. Not directly related to the platforms underneath. And ALFA is not suitable for electrification due to GC issues. They need to modify it to Sigma for the purpose.

Platforms generations planned by TML (referring Autocar India article that broke the Nexon Coupe exclusive news) are:

Gen 1 - converting existing ICE as EVs
Gen 2 - Sigma which is modified ALFA
Gen 3 - Skateboard that has no roots to any ICE platforms

In this article they clearly mentions X1 arc is elongated to 4.3m for the Nexon Coupe. Also if Sigma is already ready why they are not launching Altroz, Punch, Sierra EVs which are supposed to be in that platform first rather than going in for another concept ?

Martin in one of his interviews mentioned the production model is already there in their design studios. Sigma came to picture only recently.

They are already modifying the floor pan of X1 for the Nexon EV long range to accommodate the larger battery pack.
