Don't look at the article rather watch this latest video from the Horse's mouth. Sailesh Chandra explains about the generations of cars. The old video discussion was ambiguous and hypothetical.


See, the current X1 platform is heavy and that issue plagues NEXON thought is was a modern platform with tailored blank welding technology, it is still heavy. EVs don't make sense if weight is a matter. They return low miles.

Now ALFA platform is lighter and modular and will help in better efficiency. Hence in the Gen 2, they will use this platform that is made modular for ICE and Electric compatibility.


Gen 3, Sailesh explains about pure EV platform that is generally called skateboard platform, will be based on heavily modified ALFA architecture.

We will wait for the confirmation. Only from ACI we came to know about Nexon Coupe, Sigma arc etc. ALFA is not electric ready as we think. If yes we could have seen Altroz EV by now. Earlier there was report about lower GC while placing battery for Altroz EV in the ALFA arc. Sigma is their modified ALFA for Gen 2 EVs. Is it already under development/ will it underpin the Curvv is unknown. There is no solid news about it. But we know Nexon EV long range is coming in the same X1 platform modified for better battery pack. Gen 3 Skateboard has no roots to any of the existing ICE arcs. So it is not a heavily modified ALFA. As we know, its grounds up EV platform purely for EVs. There are rumours that they may pick an existing Skateboard developed by some vendor rather than the one developed by them in house. With this I rest my case.

You have the video interviewing Sailesh Chandra. What more confirmation do you need?

ALFA is not electric ready as we think. If yes we could have seen Altroz EV by now.

That is all Media speculation. They will need some masala to write. Unless company clarifies, we should develop the habit of taking it with a pinch of salt...

Tata Curvv likely to get CNG option

Tata Motors has confirmed that the Curvv will get internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric powertrains, however, recent concept sketches indicate that the upcoming midsize SUV could get CNG too. The sketches show that the climate control panel on the dashboard has a CNG button along with a few more interesting features. But more on that later.

And while it isn't confirmed yet, the likelihood of the CNG kit and the features going into production is high as the sketches have been provided by Tata Motors itself.

According to the sketches, the Curvv is likely to get a 360-degree camera, auto park assist and dual-zone climate control, and, while the latter can be accessed via two toggles, the camera and park assist features can be controlled via buttons on the top-right corner.

Tata Motors has trademarked the name “Frest” which is likely to be used on the production model of Curvv.

Curvv or frest will be an elongated Nexon with almost same motors like upcoming Nexon (facelift) and will be launched after Nexon facelift as they did it with Tiago and Tigor or Maruti with swift and dezire
It might be the last duo’s in ICE vehicles categories we will see as after these Tata about to go to gen 3 platforms after these
As per the info and estimations of studies 1.5 L diesel mill will not be lucrative or will be expensive for upcoming cars and not viable as far as pricing is concerned
So
Nexon
Curvv/frost
Altroz
Punch
Harrier
Safari
are the last iterations of the current gen platforms as per the product planning and market research unless EV’s don’t perform as expected then only we might see next gen or upgrades/facelifts
Oh by the way am back after a long time and intend to stay

Tata Curvv SUV: fresh spy shots show new design details

Over the past few months, the Tata Motors Curvv has been spied testing with heavy cladding to mask the shape of the vehicle. However, new spy shots now show the coupe-esque silhouette of the bodyshell.

  1. No rear quarter glass present, confirms coupe shape
  2. Turbo-petrol engine still undergoing development
  3. Curvv SUV could get a CNG powertrain

The Curvv test mule in the spy image reveals a few new details, particularly the sloping rear roofline and absence of a rear quarter glass. This confirms the notchback shape that was present on the Auto Expo display vehicle earlier this year. The sloping roofline gives it a unique look when compared to the other SUVs that it will rival.

Looks like this is an electric mule. The silencer is fake for sure. The turbo petrol train has still not started real world testing as we can sew electric mules. Need to get more information. But hope the car has the internal space as in the TATA MANZA. It's rear seat was a sofa.

The upcoming Curvv SUV will be Tata Motors' first all-new model launch for 2024. The coupe SUV has already been spied testing for months and sources tell us that series production of the Curvv will commence around April 2024. While a launch timeline has not been confirmed yet, we expect the carmaker to announce pricing for the Curvv by May-June next year.

According to sources, Tata Motors has set a sales target of around 48,000 units for the Curvv SUV. This will be split between its EV and combustion engine iterations. The Curvv EV, as we've reported before, will go on sale first and as many as 12,000 units a year are expected to be built. The remaining 36,000 units will be the ICE-powered Curvv units. The Curvv will roll out from Tata Motors' Ranjangaon plant, which also manufactures the Nexon.

The Curvv EV is expected to get a range of 400-500km and a dual motor set-up with all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the petrol version will follow with the 125hp, 225Nm, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The petrol version will be offered with both manual and automatic gearboxes. There are talks also about a CNG powertrain joining the line-up at some point.

Upon launch, the Curvv SUV coupe will enter the populated midsize SUV segment and rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor. Additionally, it will also take on the Citroen C3X that will go on sale sometime next year.

Tata Curvv to get Nexon's 1.5-litre diesel powertrain

Tata Motors has previously shown both an electric as well as a petrol version of its Curvv concept, and announced that both would see a market launch. However, we have learnt that the company is also readying a diesel-powered Curvv.
  1. New direct-injection turbo-petrol engine to debut with Curvv

  3. Will rival midsize SUVs like the Creta and Seltos
As we've reported earlier, the Curvv EV will be the first to go on sale in the second half of this year, with the diesel and turbo-petrol – in that order – launching next. The diesel engine in question would be the same 115hp, 260Nm, 1.5-litre unit that does duty in the Nexon and would come mated to either a 6-speed manual or an AMT. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which have similar power outputs, are the only other SUVs in this segment to get a diesel.

The Nexon's engine was upgraded to comply with BS6.2 emissions norms last year; Tata used a Passive Selective Catalytic Reduction system instead of an expensive SCR system, which requires a urea tank and injection system.

Despite their overall decline and uncertain future, Tata Motors is clearly not giving up on diesels as they still make up about a quarter (24 percent) of the midsize SUV segment. Thus, with the Curvv getting diesel, electric and petrol powertrains, Tata Motors has a much better chance of gaining a significant share in the very crowded midsize SUV space, which currently has as many as eight contenders.

Sources tell us that series production of the Curvv will commence around April this year at Tata Motors’ Ranjangaon plant near Pune. Tata Motors has set a sales target of around 48,000 units for the Curvv SUV, with 12,000 units expected from the Curvv EV.

The recent media report indicates that Tata Curvv will also be available with a 1.5L Diesel engine (115 BHP & 260 Nm) borrowed from Nexon. Production of Curvv is expected to start from April 2024. (Source: Link)

The question is what type of gearboxes will be available. AMT is a strict No in this segment as taxes will make the car expensive and feel cheap. Hope they use the DCA.

Tata Motors is set to launch India’s most stylish mainstream coupe vehicle in the form of Curvv. Design trademarks for the same have leaked, revealing Curvv’s design uncamouflaged.

There are multiple segments where Tata Motors currently doesn’t operate. Most prominent among these is compact SUV segment which is now marketed as mid-size SUV segment (4.2m to 4.3m length, for reference). This is a cut-throat segment that currently has nine contenders. Tata Curvv will be the tenth, and dare we say it, the most stylish.

Initial speculations suggested Tata Curvv will be a stretched Nexon. Now that the naked design is out, we should say it looks more like a hunkered-down Harrier than a glorified Nexon. For starters, Tata Curvv will share its fascia with Harrier and Safari, with a slight variance in its LED DRL signatures.

Like Curvv Concept, the edge of production-spec Curvv’s LED DRLs point upwards, flowing neatly into the clamshell bonnet. LED headlights, fog lights, upper and lower grill and lower bumper look identical to Harrier and Safari. Wheel arches have a slightly squarish design with a much thicker plastic cladding than what we saw with Harrier and Safari.

Front windshield along with A & B pillars seems to be shared with Nexon. Door frame skeleton might be shared with Nexon too, but sheet metal profiling look a lot more muscular lending a wider appeal.

From C-pillar onwards, there is a sloping roofline, stylishly merging into its rear. This area is all-new and is unique to Tata Curvv. Also unique to Curvv, are flush door handles and the glass roof. Looking at design sketches, we would wager that Curvv will come equipped with a fixed glass roof, instead of a panoramic sunroof. But is it electrochromic? Only time will tell.

Rear section is not visible in these images. But there will be a connected LED tail light design and a muscular rear bumper, mimicking the front LED signature and front bumper respectively. Split aero rear spoiler is highly likely too, unlike a rear washer and wiper. Sloping roofline might negate the need for a wiper, though.

Tata Curvv will be launched with a petrol, a diesel and an electric (Curvv.ev) powertrain. All three might not be available at launch. Despite decreasing demand for diesel engines, Tata is sticking to diesel engines catering to diesel-heads like myself. Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are the only other rivals with diesel offerings.

The launch might be around mid-2024. Curvv EV is highly likely to go on sale first, followed by the 1.5L diesel. Tata’s new 1.5L GDI turbo petrol might launch at a later date. Recently, an ICE version of Tata Curvv was spotted with emission testing equipment strapped on it. We would wager this is a diesel variant.
