true, for some strange reasons dont know why hatch back buyers are shying away from such a wonderful car.
IMO these are reasons:

1. Shape of the car. When i showed the pics of BOLT to my collegues and friends their first reaction was "OH!! again Indica shape".
2. Price is too close to swift. Normal indian car buyers believe there are only two cars in premium hatch back segment Swift and I20. So for the same price they will definitely buy the swift.
3. Most important point - common buyers perception about TATA cars. I really dont know how to change it. But TATA should do some magic to change peoples perception. Now a days i stopped recommending TATA cars to my friends and relatives. The moment I say TATA there is a big NO!! In our whole campus there is only one bolt. But i can see number of I20s and swifts is increasing daily.

I think TATA should learn some lesson from M&M. Bring a modern product and price it low during initial phase. When the product sell is increasing and people are showing confidence slowly bump the price in steps.

Swift is never considered as Premium hatch!! And it will never be. i20 can be termed as such. The real premium hatch IMO is Polo! Swift is just above budget car category and for what it offers, I will never call it a Premium hatch! May be Baleno, but not Swift!!!

Though you dont want to call swift as a premium hatch the car does command a price comparable to that of i20 elite (premium price) and we are only too happy to pay the price. So why shouldnt Suzuki term it as a premium car? Though on paper i20 elite is way better than swift and as you correctly pointed out the premiumness quotient of both cars swift gets is without doing much.

I agree those comments above, For the normal Indian car buyers. Swift is a premium hatch. And how could we treat a car non premium even that costs more than 8 lakhs on road [confused]

Just because people are blindly shelling out premium for this car, doesn't make it premium. In fact, the major reason for it's numbers is because of brand name and reach. And MSIL, as usual, cleverly use it to price the product more than what it deserves.

Except a few glaring pieces, Swift is nowhere near i20! And pricing alone won't make a car premium hatch!! Anyways this is going off-topic, I guess. So I'll stop here!

Ok guys if you read my earlier post carefully u will see that i was talking about the average car buyers not enthusiasts like us. For them swift, I20 polo all are premium hatch [;)] . But IMO at present only two legit premium hatches are available in India A class and V40

IMO tata should do some marketing gimmick like Maruti's Nexa to save bolt and other new launches. The new generation cars under one line and the indica, indigo and sumo etc under another chain with separate ASS for both categories. IMO Tata should do some serious image rebuild otherwise any advancement in technology can't help them increase the sales.

while at a TML service center sat in a bolt test drive car..mm very much improved over my vista. sadly tthough the reception at the center would chase away even a die hard fan.
horizon next for ASS needs a leg up.

To be very honest, Tata messed up the pricing. The XT Petrol is very alarmingly close to the Swift ZXi, as DJD said. Lower price would hopefully mean higher sales which would translate into more cars on the road. This would probably regain the customer's trust in Tata. Tata is working very hard and I feel the Nexa should be a game changer. My father and I always liked the Aria's looks and felt that it was an underdog in the market. I hope things change with Nexa :D

Another problem is ASS and reliability. I had a Marina and the service costs for that were pretty high and quality was below par. My cousin loved the Manza and felt it was a very good car, but shied away from buying it due to reliability issues.

I guess you are confused between Maruti's NEXA showrooms and Tata's HEXA SUV.[;)]

Nexa is not yielding results to Maruti.. They are laying of employees from Nexa

Introducing new showrooms and creating competition amongst them would help Tata. Another option is to give authorised centers to small local garage which will act as brand ambassadors; as these days local mechanics straight away say "no Tata cars are not good at all". This might help Tata to regain trust. Just my two cents:)

Toyota is not known for good looks or performance-just simple reliability-the car and the service. Its a mystery why others have tried but failed to match the famous Toyota Quality system. I'm sure some management guru is advising Tata. So far they have got the affordable aspect mostly right but not the R word!

I never quite liked the Bolt despite my best efforts. But the Messi ad by Tata looks good :-)
I liked the Bolt, but felt it lacked in some areas. The car in the Messi ad is a low-cost supermini. I'm looking forward to seeing that car. I feel Tata need to improve their reliability and A.S.S. before anything. Hexa looks good, too!
