Re: Hyundai Verna Fluidic Gear - RPM - Speed Issue

All they told me was that the clutch disc was replaced.
Clutch Disc? So, isn't it the same as replacement?

Can anyone else explain what is Overhauling and how it's different from replacing the clutch?

Do you know any reason that could cause such a change?
I don't think there's any relation with clutch replacement and rpm readings.

I'll suggest you to check another diesel verna and compare.

I think it means normal inspection of clutch and replace any worn out parts. There's another thing known as clutch bleeding in which they remove excess air which might be causing problems with the clutch.

Yes, I am aware of Bleeding, which is a very different and simple procedure. But, overhauling is something I am unable to get.

Checking all components and replacing the damaged ones with new parts. When you get a new clutch, you get a, well, new clutch, i.e. the old clutch is junked and a new one is plonked in.

This is a godly thread.

I've been driving turbo diesels all these years and I feel the Sound of engine/ Turbo is a huge pointer to driving properly. I feel very strange when driving a petrol as there is no Mid-rev boost or Sweet whistle!

Guyz, let me admit that comparing speed and maintaining certain RPM is a bit confusing and difficult for me. Let me give you an example, we cannot maintain same RPM for certain speeds when the road condition ( Incline / decline ) changes and the load in the vehicle changes. So, I am preferring the speed vs Engine response and sound, engine knocking as reference points to change the Gears. I request the Gurus to kindly educate me.

I drive a Safari Storme.

Thanks

Actually you don't monitor engine RPM by looking at the tachometer but the method you use is again the same thing. You are monitoring the engine RPM going on your experience with your vehicle by paying attention towards responsiveness, speed and engine sound. Nothing wrong with this method - good one indeed it is.

Dear TSIVipul, thanks a lot for your advise. I guess sometimes too much of exposure to information confuses. I guess I am a victim of that. I need something clear with reference to Storme in numbers I mean Gear # vs Speed (Low - Top) because my wife would be behind the wheel [cry] I am sure all married guyz would understand me.

Thanks

RPM is controlled by gearshifting. Let's not get too technical on this. Just remember to always keep your car in a gear at which the engine feels smooth and comfortable for a given traffic/road condition..
Is it necessary to downshift/upshift in linear way, or can we go 1st to 3rd or 5th to 2nd or 3rd, provided engine feels smooth (neither rev up much or halt).

My Car - Safari Storme.

Guys, Once the Car moves from stationery position I am shifting to 2nd Gear and later to 3rd Gear when I am over 25 Kmph and 4th gear as soon as my speedometer needle crosses 40 Kmph. Actually I am compelled to shift to 4th gear. Later when speed is above 50 Kmph + I am shifting to 5th gear. My RPM is mostly somewhere between 1100 to 1300 even when I am in 5th Gear and the speed is between 50 - 60 Kmph and the Engine cruises smoothly. And sometime when I am over 80 + Kmph still I could manage between 1500 - 1800 RPM.

Now the big question is, IS THIS RIGHT ?

Diesel Gurus please advise.
Thanks

We often had to shift from 4th to 2nd. But never done vice versa. From 5th I first shift down to 4th, and then the other downshifting. There is no occasion I experienced, the need to shift from 1st to 3rd.[:)]

Yeah I agree with Sidd7hartha, downshifting is possible from 4th to 2nd gear as we apply brakes but going up directly from 2nd to 4th is not possible because of the speed difference between the two gears. Please advise if I am wrong.

Thanks

Sorry for bumping this old thread. I searched for suitable thread to post this image but could not find it. Mods please move this to best suitable thread if any.

Below gear knob photo is taken from Eicher Skyline Executive (32 seater). I was wondering about the gear throws which is deviated from standard. If it is like wise then i accept :stupid:
