If you are RICH ![;)] Then go for Suzuki Inazuma. It comes second to none in quality and is also a maintenance free bike(I dont own an Inazuma, just online reviews I read) But you should keep an eye on the spare parts.
If not that rich and need a VFM bike, go for Suzuki GS 150 R. It really suites for the usuage Appu mentioned above.

Mr.Appu,My Dad owned 6 REs in which The Last one was a UCE TBTS 350 and every other were Iron Cast 350cc (3 of them) and 500cc (2 of them). All of them were bought,Used and sold in an year. One by One for 6 Years.I loved the Good Ol' Iron Cast Units than the Lazy UCE ones but The UCE is a huge improvement from the IC.The TBTS was his last Bike as after that he couldnt stand the Maintenance Costs. The costs increased more and more and with the addon of Real Stupid Dealer-ships and Sales-guy near us !! But the last reason was a Big Crash on the TBTS which made him stop biking. He sold her off last year. So,The Point is Of-course,REs have Higher Maintenance Costs and More Frequent Visits to Mechanic but the Nirvaana she Offers you is another Whole Damn World and can never ever be Matched !! So...I won't suggest you one as you have mentioned You don't want to be visiting the Mechanic frequently ! If you want that kind of the Thrill and that Thump, The Bullet 500 or the TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS is for you.The RTR has that Thump of Today's RE , Has much lesser Maintenance Costs and Much lesser Visits to the Workshop , Has Way Lotsa Mileage and is Way more Safer (ABS) , Costs way lesser and is also a Good Tourer ! The RTR has much better Controlled and Improved NVH Levels and Seating Comfort. The BS is a life-saving Features ! If you still want an RE,I feel the Bullet 500 is better than the TBTS 350 for you. Thanks

How Bullet 500 is better than TB Bharath?
Now both the TB and Bullet has the same engine and the Bullet has a different tuning(less power than TB).
TB has rear disc, huge 20+ lts fuel tank, semi digital console, projector light, etc etc which the Bullet lacks.

BTW, for what you will be buying this bike for? Touring? Or anyother?
If maintenance is your big concern, please dont even have a thought of the mighty thumping REs. They are not for you (considering maintenance).

Appu,my advice is to go for Thunderbird. My cousin bought TB350 a week ago and he haven't driven much because of his work.If you want budget cruiser, then go for Avenger 220.My cousin is having one since December 2013 though the bike will complete 1 year next month. He went to Karnataka in his bike and delivered good FE as per him.

You need a maintenance free bike?
Then go for any Honda eyes closed.
You chose RE. It shows your driving style. Buy yourself a CBR and be happy and it's an awesome tourer!
Thanks RVSB. Yes, I'm also checking the CBR.

The name describe it all - Royal - Everything need (attention/patience/money/time) at that Quantity...Royal.
In my locality saw one user who sold his almost new Thunderbird and bought 1st Gen Frazer when it released.
Now I understand, what is meant by ROYAL[lol]

Good. But research on the 250R instead - you'll be a happy man, trust me.
My Budget is 1.5L. 250R is beyond my budget[frustration]

I don't own a tb. We have a electra, cbz, karizma, activa, pulsar 150(sold) as our rides.

RE is a different bike, It gives you unexpected troubles, identifying a mech or a good SVC is double the trouble, finding spares it's a entirely different burden. the electra is the first of all the bikes listed above but it has done the least kms, cbz has done three time and karizma has done 2 times the number of kms electra has done

when you fix all the troubles and ride the bike, you are the king until the next issue crops up.

I would say No to CBR 150, you can go for cbr250/cbr300( if launched in india). or wait for the hx250. i'm on the verge of selling my cbz.
My Budget is 1.5L. 250R is beyond my budget. apart from cbr250, is there any other bike available in market?

For Long drive it is cruiser that would give you painfree drive. I own a 220CC Avenger. I would suggest the same. For me it is giving 50KMPL, as my driving style is anticipatory.

The new avenger, not like older versions, is designed for City riding as well. You will not believe the agility of this long vehicle will beat any other bike, with the added value of very good stability. Company says the Avenger will give FE of 35 to 45KMPL (I am always lucky My first Bike TVS champ gave me 75KMPL, My Swift giving 18KMPL, Discover gave 75KMPL, and Avenger is giving 50KMPL).

This bike has its limitations - this is strict no race bike, this is for sedate driving. This is purely a cruiser. This goes well with decent disciplined driving. You will love to drive at 50 - 60kmph range. Relaxed, Enjoying the cool breeze, observing everything as they passing by slowly, sometimes you tend to sleep also. Break is good if it is 50-60KMPH, otherwise sure you will kiss the holy motherland due to longer wheal base.
I had ridden Avenger from Chennai - Vellore and back to Chennai(Solo Ride). I like the way it performed on Highway. I got 30kmpl on Highway ride.

I feel Avenger is good for Highway, but I felt pain on my legs for city ride. of course, If I use the bike for some 10days continuously, i will get used to it. Lets see.

If you are RICH ! Then go for Suzuki Inazuma. It comes second to none in quality and is also a maintenance free bike(I dont own an Inazuma, just online reviews I read) But you should keep an eye on the spare parts.

Suzuki Inazuma is out of my budget.

I too heard GS is very good bike. but somehow, I didn't like its looks :(

what about suzuki zixxer 155cc !!

Gixxer looks very similar to FZ, still not driven one. Will take the TD soon.

is RTR is relaiable?

3 of my friends brought RTR and one brought Victor. After some couple of years, the performance has degraded and Engine sound has changed and made some weird noise started coming from engine. So I have no trust on TVS bikes and I don't like the latest RTR.

Avenger is a good Bike I agree, But TB is almost out of my list :(

The new Avenger is actualy designed for City commuters and occasional highway drive. If you take my ride experience, it is a mixed bag. 30KM oneway daily drive, 20 KM City(30 to 60KMPh) and 10KM Hiway(can cruise up to 100KMbh, but never). With this I am getting 50KMPL. I bought this bike only because of everyday long drive of 70KM. This is most comfortable bike. You will never feel the pain of driving long distance.

Best choice for you - The New Karizma ZMR!
You all may say that the new Karizmas are ugly. Actually, all Hero bikes are not photogenic.
Karizma ZMR has EFI fuel system by which it delivers a good mileage and higher power than Karizma R.
It is a Honda engined, EBR tuned, EBR styled bike.
And also you get awesome SVC guys (compared to Honda) with cheap maintenance. So it is an awesome/excellent workhorse and fits in your budget too.

How about the Yamaha R15 or the Bajaj Pulsar 220F or the 200 NS ? Well,I would go for the Pulsar 220F.In my case,I have met many owners of the RTR 180 ABS (Remember? I am a Die-hard RTR,Shogun Guy ! ),Especially the new one. Many say It's awesome and delivers more than 45 Kmpl.ABS does it's job well,Fit & Finish not that good but has a good improvement over the Older ones,Overall Comfort felt better tan the Old one,NVH slightly improved : Noticeable from 4K RPM,Maintainence and Spares are Cheap and Reliable. Now the Bad ones,TVS Dealerships : Un-educated,Un-inspiring,Selfish Fools as Salesman. They never have a proper one for TD ! Looks : Not in everyone's taste but It grows on to you sooner or later , Vibes : Still get into your Nerves.I highly recommend you to TD the RTR 180 ABS If you are in Chennai near Vadapalani,I can help you out with the Best TVS Dealerships (Atleast better than those today) !!

Appu@

Gixxer designed for city/short trips. Anyway do TD GS150 R along with Gixxer on a NH. I know it is not a looker and old model too, but it suits best for your all other requirments (milage, reliability, comfort, highway ride). More than this it is very much stable on the road the 6th gear make you ride at 70-80 km/hr continuously without straining the engine. Dont forget its best in class suspension and the heavy weight too.

Though the GS150R is a massive sales flop, it is by no means a bad motorcycle, and I have to admit that I have a soft corner for it. If I have to ride through India on a 150cc motorcycle, I'll close my eyes and jump on a GS150R.

As mentioned by other members here, if going the 150-200cc route, it'd be worthwhile to check out the Unicorn and the Pulsar 220 too. While at Bajaj showroom, do take a test ride of the 200NS as well.

Here is a review of the Pulsar 220 done by Vipul: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...-bajaj-pulsar-220-dts-i-test-ride-review.html

Agreed completely. Even I am in the market for a highway-only bike. Confused among the GS150R, Gixxer and Avenger.
