Akash,

Thank you for the details. [:)]
Should all the documents be in original?
I was also told that we would have to pay 300 rs into the number of days we are planning to stay in Nepal in advance. Is this true??
Do carry the original documents (just to be on the safer side), and a copy of them for showing at the various check points.

Yes, there is some fixed fee which has to be paid during the allotment of temporary number, but i am not sure what the exact amount is!

Hi Fyzy,

Thats superb plan.

Planning to go in which car?

Girish
Thanks Girish [:)]
I am still in a fix about which one to take..
Options are my very own Alto, Figo, Eecho or wait for the Scorpio.[confused]
It would be Alto very likely due to its FE.

I am still working on what kind of road I would encounter in Nepal. If they are 2WD drivable then it would definitely be my Alto.

I am not sure of roads from Bangalore to UP. If you are going by the NH7 route, you will have to encounter the not so good stretch between Nagpur and Jabalpur. My dad recently did this stretch a few months back and told me about it.

As for Nepal, the roads are very much cruisable. For your info, my friend did this trip from Ranchi to Nepal in a Old gen Petrol Swift. So i am dam sure, it is pretty easy for Alto do the trip considering the fact that you wont be entering the State of bad roads, Jharkhand.

It is such a relief to know that roads in Nepal are in good condition.[clap]
I will post the details of routes I am planning to take to Nepal and back in a bit.
Would appreciate your expert advise on finalizing it. [:)]

I too was planning to do this trip, however couldnt do so due to lack of time and ofcourse the Vitamin M. One of my colleague did this trip (from Ranchi). Here a list of documents you must carry.

  • Complete set of car papers (RC book, PUC, Insurance etc)
  • Pan Card/Adhaar Card or any other identity which confirms your identity.
  • Driving License
  • Passport (Not necessary, but my friend did carry it, though he wasnt asked to produce at any point).
From what he told me, as soon as you enter the checkpoint (entry at Nepal), you are given a temporary registration number for your car which would enable you to roam around in the country without any hiccups.
Ditto with this on the requirements.

I had driven (actually my uncle had driven) into Nepal from Kolkata in an Amby Mk II in 1987. I was still having a learner's licence then. Roads were bad but subsequently when we went it had improved whole lot.

From Bangalore I suggest you can drive into Pokhra side via Varanasi - Gorakhpur and Sonauli border. From Pokhra you drive into Kathmandu and come out of Birgunj / Raxaul border and follow up to Motihari and then on to Patna.

Chandranathji, any plans to revive your memories. I am planning for a Gangtok/Nepal trip in the near future[;)].

As suggested by a friend, will have to go through Varanasi.
The route mentioned looks perfect to me. But I am a little puzzled about the exit route.. [confused] Is there another route I can take on the exit? or is that the only way??

Thanks in Advance Chandranathji and Akash [:D]

ronz, dont underestimate your little Suzuki. As a matter of fact every vehicle has the capability of commuting on most of the terrains. Like i have mentioned earlier too, its the driver whose skills matter in most of the cases.

@Fyzy09: Welcome buddy, BTW do treat us with good number of pictures.

Nice plan buddy !! I too dream about such things but time is a main problem for me.

Yes, Alto is capable of going any where without a problem and gives good FE. But for such long trip I feel Alto will be tiring to you, I think you should plan for a better vehicle which gives more comfort for long drives and if it is diesel then even better [:)]

Gurrala74,

Thank you for the compliments bro. [:D] I wish you too could have taken up something like this.

I understand that covering so much of ground in an Alto can be tiring, however, we are planning on breaking the drive so that we can over come tiredness at most.
The plan as of now is to at least be able to reach Varanasi before the day 1 of the trip ends and rest overnight. Start early and next halt at Nepal.[;)]

I recently did a 650 kms at a stretch, driving alone, in my Alto and I must say I had no tiredness what so ever. So hoping for the best.

Diesel car is undoubtedly a best option, however in my case I am not sure if I would have one at the time of the trip.

(PS, my Scorpio booking is facing some rough edges as of now..[frustration] will try to put the details in a separate ownership review thread)
