Volkswagen India has inaugurated a new touchpoint in Jamshedpur, expanding its network presence in Jharkhand.

In addition to the three-car display, the new touchpoint will also house eight bays in the service facility, staffed by 20 highly-skilled support staff. This service touchpoint will also offer Volkswagen Assistance.

Volkswagen India has further bolstered its presence in Punjab with the inauguration of a new sales touchpoint in Mohali.

• This facility will be staffed by a team of eight trained executives under the leadership of Mr.Saravdeep Lally, Managing Director, Lally Motors Pvt.

Volkswagen India has announced the expansion of its network in the Delhi NCR region with the inauguration of a new City Store in Gurgaon.

• The City Store is managed by Mr.Anand Wadhwa, Managing Director, Frontier Autoworld. It will have a dedicated team of six staff members.

Volkswagen Polo to celebrate 50 years in 2025

Come 2025, the Volkswagen Polo will celebrate 50 years of its existence. First revealed in 1975, the Polo has been through six generations in international markets, with over 2 crore units having been sold in that duration.


First-gen Volkswagen Polo (1975-1981)

The small hatchback was said to be one of three models up VW’s sleeve when it came time to replace the venerable Beetle in the 1970s, with the other two being the Passat (1973) and the Golf (1974). The front wheel drive hatchback was based on the Audi 50, and was meant to offer buyers an efficient (read: lightweight), practical and affordable model that also boasted of good handling characteristics.

Volkswagen has sued Indian authorities to quash the tax demand of $1.4 billion, arguing the ask is contradictory to New Delhi's import taxation rules for car parts and will hamper the company's business plans. (Source: Link)

• India in September 2024 slapped a $1.4 billion tax notice on Volkswagen for using a strategy to break down imports of some VW, Skoda and Audi cars into many individual parts to pay a lower duty.
• VW allegedly imported "almost the entire" car in unassembled condition, which attract a 30-35% tax on CKDs but mis-classified them as "individual parts" in separate shipments, paying a 5-15% levy.
• Volkswagen's unit, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, told the High Court in Mumbai that tax dispute puts at risk its investments of $1.5 billion in India, and is detrimental to the foreign investment climate.
• Volkswagen's India unit said in a statement it is using all legal remedies as it cooperates with authorities and remains committed to ensuring "full compliance" with all global and local laws.

Škoda VW India records 5 lakh locally manufactured engines milestones

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL), which manages the Indian operations of Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini, today announced that it has surpassed the engine production milestone of 5,00,000 units.

The brand has been producing engines at its Chakan facility (Pune) since 2014. The milestone enhances India's position as a key manufacturing and export hub for the Volkswagen Group.

The Chakan facility currently produces the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. While the 1.0-litre unit features advanced exhaust emission technology, the 1.5-litre unit incorporates active cylinder technology (ACT).

"Producing 5,00,000 engines at our Pune facility is a significant milestone, reinforcing India's role in our global manufacturing network. Our investments in technology and workforce development continue to enhance our production capabilities, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective powertrains.
