Hi All

This is my first post on this forum so please excuse if you find some rules flouted!
I've been a satisfied Honda City user for the last 11yrs. The car is nearing the 200K Km mark and is still niggle free.
With the growing family, the need arouse to buy a 7 seater that has to be an automatic and the first choice was the people mover of India, new Toyota Innova.
Wifey was a bit skeptical of the taxi image and that was the end of discussion on the Innova.[:)]
Then heard some good reviews of the new gen XUV500 automatic and thought to give it a try. The kids loved the W10 (sunroof, alloy wheels, leather upholstery), but with a budget of around 15L W10 and W8 were way out of budget.
Then came the news of W6 automatic, and we thought this probably is the car that will take us places.. Took a test drive, coming from a sedan, found the seating position to be very good, the space excellent and ride over potholes plush...
Then came the Honda BRV launch.. being a loyal and satisfied Honda customer, took our cheque book to book the car without even a second thought.. But was disappointed to say the least when we took the test drive.. No automatic test drive vehicle available, the car looked cramped (as compared to the XUV)..
So the decision was made to buy the XUV500 and help Mr. Mahindra meet his annual revenue targets..
The buying experience was Ok.. except that we booked the vehicle at the end of the month, and at the time of booking were promised few accessories by the dealer.
But at the time of the delivery the company came up with a 40K discount and the dealer refused to give any additional accessories... Had to fight a little to extract the same..

The Car

Have been using the car as my daily commute to the office, and the automatic is a boon in the traffic. Took the car for a drive on the highway, and it instantly brings a smile on your face. The power delivery is very linear and it can achieve some serious speeds very quickly.
Have been getting a fuel economy of 10-11 Km/l in 95% city drive, which I feel is quite acceptable looking at the size of the vehicle..
the car is adequately equipped and thus haven't really felt the need to accessorize it further, got the 3D mats, reverse camera (a must) and the fog lights from the dealer.

Let's hope the car serves as a loyal companion for the coming years..

Cheers!

Thanks for the good wishes...
No major issues to report as such.. the automatic is a real boon in the traffic and would highly recommend it to anyone planning to buy a car of this size..

Have the 1st service due.. hopefully the service experience will not disappoint..

Have the option of going to either Sri Durga in Naraina or Sterling at Gurgaon.. Any feedback on either of them ?

Hi All

Got the 1st Free Service done at Sterling Auto Gurgaon today. The total cost came to INR 2200/-.
Overall no major issues.. so no major work done!

Got the software upgraded to version 8.0.. was running on 6.0 earlier.. can't really identify any striking difference though..

Cheers!

Congrats bro. I may be late, but it is better to be later than never.

I have one query regarding reverse camera. Is it same which come in w10 model or any difference between company fitted (w10) and installed as accessories??

Hi
The reverse camera is different from the one available in W10.

1)In W10, the camera comes hidden under and is next to the rear boot opener, whereas for W6, you'll need to install it on the bumper and thus will need to make space for it.
2)The W10 camera comes with drive assist lines, so there is some connection between the camera and the steering inputs.. but the W6 camera is a simple camera which gets engaged the moment the car is put in reverse gear..
3) In W10, there is a provision to switch on the camera through the Headunit Menu to see if there is some obstruction at the back.. in W6, you'll need to engage the reverse gear for the same.. the option of Reverse Camera is disabled in the Menu..

But I feel the reverse camera is a must in such a big vehicle, and in W6 it works well along with the sensors..

Hope the above helps..

Cheers!

Hi Redev,
Congrats on the XUV 500 AT.,
I am planning to get the same (W6 AUTOMATIC) and I have finished with the booking process.
But after seeing your review I have a few doubts.!
You have mentioned as W6 automatic and in the photo the vehicle comes with fog lamps? whereas in the website it doesn't come with fog lamps.
How do you rate the fabric seats? Do they need a seat cover?
Also is it the same touch screen display that comes in the W10 Variant?
Any do's and don'ts u would advise me on owning this beast
Could you please share some clarity on my doubts

He added the fog lamps as accessory from Dealer later on. He has mentioned that in his initial post somewhere. Touch screen is same as w10 but it won't display tyre pressure as it does not have tyre tronics in W6.

Fabric, a big no. Just after a month, it will be with lots of stains. Especially, if you have kids.

If not immediately, change it art leather or so asap.

You can have fog lamp as accessories with chrome around 6500 Rs. I also suggest reverse camera with night vision around 4000 Rs. Touch screen is same except tpms and park assist.

Hi All
Just to answer few queries, W6 doesn't come with fog lamps and reverse camera, the same were purchased (though got it as a deal) from the dealer.
The fabric seats definitely are hard to maintain and thus I bought the false leather seat covers from Autoform.. cost 13K..
Regarding any Pros and Cons of the vehicle.. no major issues as such.. have done around 6K, 95% city driving.. the only issue is the outside odor comes in.. got it rectified during the first service.. but it has again crept in.. so will get it done over one of the weekends.. Rest everything's fine..
Cheers!

Hi

I got The Bridgestone Duelers.. Good Luck for your car.. From which dealer have you bought it ?

Also, took the car for its first long drive from Delhi to Chandigarh over the weekend..
It's a bit bouncy on high speeds as compared to a sedan, but nothing scary.. the drive for sure is stress free and the automatic gearbox makes it easy to cruise..
BTW, the cruise control is a useless feature, atleast on our National Highways.. [frustration]

Was shocked to see the display showing an average of 17+ Km/l for a very long stretch.. and it never came below 15.5Km/l.. [:D]
Need to fill the tank again to check the actual FE.. but I am sure the car is capable of returning 15kmpl easily on a highway with AC on.. [clap]

Cheers!
