Just one suggestion form me, ask your workers to treat cars as baby not like a thing and customers would surely turn back to you. Remember in business you are not successful if you get more customers, you become successful when the same set of customers come back to you again. So provide service that please the customers.

All the best mate for your venture.
+ 100 to what dharmesh said, show you care for their vehicles and it gives you loyalty and trust and faith from the clients who not only returns back again and again but also helps in your business with their mouth experience publicity and advertisement for your accessory shop.

Your time and replies on this thread are really appreciated, thanks a lot TAI'ns.

Well about the experience part, i am spending some time with the distributor to get some more product knowledge and to understand this business closely and believe me TAI'ns are really helpful here.

One more thing that i am a bit doubtful about the two brands that the distributor suggested me(Galio and Senior). Can anyone put some light on this context?

Well this is a point where all the small ventures never concentrate. Well this is a third business that i am starting up with, so i do understand the meaning of customer satisfaction to earn some goodwill in the city.
I will definitely keep your suggestion as a priority :agree: and obviously even we don't like to go back to a place where our machines get spoiled up.

@jarpickle: This is a new business for me and tires and alloy wheels demand a huge investment and a big space both for showroom and store house, so for now i would only like to go with the accessory part as there is a lesser amount of risk and investment.
Though if in future, if this business works out good for me, than i can plan out for these things, after all at the end of the day, we look for good profits.

Thank you anyways.
Keep up with the suggestions, they are helping alot.[thumbswink]

@jarpickle: Yes your opinion is not bad but the thing is i also need to have adequate space for the storage for tires and alloys.
For now i have decided to keep up with the basic necessities of all the cars, i.e. Floor mats, Car covers, Mud Flaps, Cleaning kits, Polishes, Engine Liquids, Door guards, Air Fresheners, First Aid Kits, GPS, Gear Locks, etc.
I'll also be getting some brochures or booklets for accessories of all the brands from which i can choose the products i want to keep in my store. Same can also be shown to the customers.

Ye,s they do , only trick is to provide a music system for a basic varient of a car which has got more features than stock music systems of mid end/low end varients of the pirticular car.So that the car owner keeps on boasting about it.

For budget custemers , you have to find out the basic requirements of the custemer and act according to his taste.

@ Savitoj,
I was watching this thread from the first day. As opening a garage and accessories shop is my dream. Earlier I was working with my friend in his garage. There I used to deal with accessories and ICE. I would like to tell you about few things from my experience.

1. MARKET SURVEY
Get friendly with the neighborhood garages. Take your or your friend's cars for small service/washing to the garages. Then talk with the mechanics about accessories and the demand of the people. Do not tell them about your shop until you have the opening date(else this info may be forwarded to the other accessory shops).
This will help you a lot to know the likes of the nearby customers. Also check the quality of washing that they do, what cleaning products do they use. Check that do they have wheel alignment/balancing ??

2. Be a JACK IN ALL TRADE
Get in touch with few dealers, a denter/painter, an AC mechanic and a tyre shop.
The denter/painter may help in small jobs like removing scratches/dents from bumpers/fenders etc. Do not take big dent/paint jobs if you don't have space to keep a car for day or two.
Success mantra for business is NEVER LET ANY CUSTOMER EMPTY HANDED. For eg. if any customer comes to you with an AC repair job, just send a boy from your shop with him to your AC mechanic. The customer will be happy, and your commission will be made.

3. HOW TO ATTRACT CUSTOMERS
Make a dress for your staff and have at least 2-3 mechanics. (I do not know the labor rate there.) Get fender aprons made. This is a plus point to attract the customers. These aprons are used to protect the paint of the fenders from any grease/oil while doing any work under the hood. Get a PC and a printer installed and give printed receipts instead of hand made ones. Use columns like VAT,DISCOUNT ETC in the printer. Also you can give discount coupons(with conditions apply) to regular customers. These coupons may be used for next purchases.
Get an air compressor/vaccum cleaner and few cleaning products and do interior cleaning. A fresh car interior is much liked by the customer.
Make some flyers and get them distributed with the news-papers. Have some sunday special or festival special. For eg. we had perfume free with full car cleaning.

4. Get in touch with the CAB/TAXI owners.
If you have space and manage to get a alignment/balancing machine installed, then you will have fixed daily income. Taxi/Cab owners have to get the alignment done frequently as compared to us. Because they travel lot more than us. In Lucknow alignment only is charged Rs 150. Balancing depends on weight used but minimum of 100 is there. Here an alignment shop owner earns a minimum of Rs 2000 daily.
Cab drivers many a times use various local made accessories like bull bars, lights and various decoration stuff. Also they use the 4440IC based players which has a great sound.

Wishing you all the best for your Accessories business .

hi savijtoj ..
Congrats for the new venture plans.. hope you success.

Accessories are basically 2
1. original ( bill or grey )
2. Duplicates.

For eg . duplicates of pioneers is flooded in market!! a lot!!!!

I used to be in this business but now i am closed!!:)

These duplicates fetch a high margin than the regular branded ones.

The branded ones may fetch good margin if sold at MRP which is not done always.!

The very first thing is this is also a normal business!! Do not imagine 100 or 200% of profit.
As a normal business. you can expect a profit of 22% and after the taxes and etc approx the net profit is 15 to 18%.

the more the volume the more the price.

Keep the labours like electrician on contract - pay as you use them.
some months there may be dull business.
allow the electrician to do his small business in his premiss that keep him busy in your area - of course with a stern look.. like free rent for some easy money for him!

The other potential thing that you MUST store in INDIA is the seat covers.

You may 100 varieties !! the customer will explain the 101th model that he saw in the other car..
have deals with branded companies like autofoam and take business on orders.

You can find some good margins on fancy items like bumper protector. seat beads. idols .. perfumes etc.

For initial start . study your market... for your place i bet duplicate pioneer sells the best..

In short you can get all them at delhi .

then build up for branded audio items.. i bet ppl buy this less..
since a audio guy will surely search in net and sme how he get from online or from a friend returning from USA .

So installation is your income!
