Nokian Tyres has introduced the Surpass AS01, an ultra-high-performance all-season tire featuring puncture-resistant Aramid fibre technology and a 90,000-kilometre treadwear warranty. The tire is now available across Canada.
The Surpass AS01 is offered in 65 sizes, accommodating wheels from 16 to 21 inches, and is designed for both electric and conventional vehicles. It incorporates a high-silica compound for improved handling and introduces Nokian’s first ultra-high-performance Pothole Protection program.
According to Steve Bourassa, Director of Products at Nokian Tyres North America, the Surpass AS01 not only provides strong grip and handling but also emphasizes durability and long-lasting performance.
The tire’s construction features Nokian’s Silica Sense Tread Compound, which contains the highest silica content of any Nokian all-season tire. This formulation enhances grip during cornering and contributes to extended tread life. The outer shoulder and dedicated outer-middle rib work together to improve cornering stability and distribute weight more effectively during high-speed maneuvers, ensuring consistent road contact.
The tread pattern utilizes wide circumferential grooves in wet conditions to evacuate water efficiently. Shoulder claws and dense 3D siping provide additional traction, while the solid center rib enhances stability on wet roads.
The Surpass AS01’s key focus is durability, with Aramid Strong Sidewalls offering protection against road hazards. The tire is the first in Nokian’s ultra-high-performance lineup to include a Pothole Protection warranty. A closed shoulder design further supports even wear and longevity.
For electric vehicle owners, the Surpass AS01 carries Nokian’s Electric Fit designation, indicating its suitability for EV-specific requirements such as low rolling resistance and the ability to handle higher torque and weight.
Additionally, the tire features Nokian’s Driving Safety Indicator (DSI), which displays the remaining tread depth directly on the tire surface. This allows drivers to monitor wear more easily without the need for manual measurements.
