Press Release:
Nissan Motor India has achieved a key milestone of exporting one million Nissan vehicles. Inspired by its philosophy of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’, Nissan has exported vehicles to 108 countries from its Renault-Nissan Automotive India Ltd. plant in Chennai since exports commenced in September 2010.

Commenting on the milestone, Frank Torres, President, Nissan India said, “We are proud to celebrate our one millionth Nissan vehicle exported from India to the world. Nissan India is a key hub for the exports of completely built-up cars and for parts supply. A good recent example is the export of our most awarded bestselling Magnite into Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. This is proof of the competitiveness of our operations, including the Port facilities. We would like to congratulate all our teams involved for this great achievement and extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Port officials and Union and Tamil Nadu Government for their continued support.”

“Reaching the one million exports milestone is a proud moment for all of us. It is a testimony to Nissan’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This achievement reinforces our focus on expanding and strengthening our market presence across global markets and establishes the Renault-Nissan plant in India as a hub of manufacturing excellence that will win more accolades and recognition.” said Biju Balendran – MD & CEO, Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL).

Commenting on the milestone, Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said, “Nissan India reflects the strong value of our ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ philosophy. Exports are a strong pillar of Nissan India’s business strategy, and we will continue growing our customer base in diverse markets, segments, backed by our focus on best-in-class products, innovative technologies, robust performance, and safety. The Nissan Magnite has validated our business approach, and its success in markets in India and overseas has established it as a key driver of the Nissan NEXT transformation plan.”

On July 28, Frank Torres, President, Nissan India, members of Nissan’s management team alongside Shri M Gunasekaran - General manager Finance & operations, Captain G M Balan - General Manager Marine Services flagged off the one-millionth vehicle – a Nissan Magnite - for export from Kamarajar port.

Nissan India has exported vehicles from Chennai’s Kamarajar Port Ltd (formerly Ennore Port Ltd.) to various regions including Middle Eastern countries; Europe; Latin America; New Zealand; Australia; South-East Asia; SAARC countries; and Sub Sahara and Africa. In recent years, Nissan India has transitioned its primary export market from Europe to the Middle East countries like Saudi Arabia; the United Arab Emirates; Oman; Qatar; Bahrain; and Kuwait.

Key models exported from India include the successful, Big, Bold and Beautiful Nissan Magnite.

Since commencing operations, the RNAIPL plant has invested $1.5 billion towards the Indian economy. It has created employment and skilling opportunities for over 40,000 workers (direct and indirect), who create products and support operations related to vehicle requirements.

In recent months, the plant has accelerated operations to respond to surging demand for the Nissan Magnite in the Indian and overseas markets.

The Nissan Magnite, a runaway success for Nissan India, has been pivotal to the achievement of the one million export record. Emerging as a disruptor SUV in the Indian auto market, its sharp, distinctive visual appeal, power packed-performance, hi-tech features, and unparalleled safety has drawn customers.

The Big, Bold, Beautiful SUV scored a four-star safety rating in the adult occupant protection category by Global NCAP in February 2022, winning the customer’s trust for its range of features providing safety in a variety of driving conditions, from navigating city traffic to winding hilly slopes. The Nissan Magnite comes with the best, lowest-in-class maintenance cost at just 30 paise/km (for 50,000 kms). Peace of mind comes with a warranty of 2 years (50,000kms) which can be extended for up to 5 years (100,000 kms) at a nominal cost.

5 new Nissan cars and SUVs announced for India

upcoming-nissan-cars-suvs-india.jpg

After having a few quiet years in India with only a single product on offer, the Japanese automotive giant Nissan is gearing up to shake the Indian automotive market in the coming period. The company has been relentlessly working on the development of new products, and it is ready to bring in five new vehicles to the country. If you are also one of those who is interested in knowing which of these five cars are coming from Nissan, you have come to the right spot.

Nissan X-Trail

2024-Nissan-X-trail-front-right-.jpg
The first SUV, which has recently been revealed by Nissan, is the 2024 X-Trail. This will take on the role of being the brand’s flagship SUV in the country. Built on the CMF-C platform, this premium SUV boasts dimensions of 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, and 1,725mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,705mm.

The X-Trail features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. This engine generates 163 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. The SUV also comes equipped with a ton of premium features, including a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, and others.

This SUV will be brought into the country via the CBU route and will be limited to 2,500 units yearly. It will be competing with the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, and MG Gloster in India. It will be priced in the range of Rs 40-45 lakh.

Nissan Magnite Facelift

Next up in the lineup is the popular Nissan Magnite facelift. The Magnite has been the company’s sole offering in the Indian automotive market for the longest time and will now receive a significant facelift early next year.

Although it will retain its existing 1.0-liter petrol engines, the new facelift will introduce refreshed bumpers, a new headlamp and grille assembly, and updated LED signatures. The interior updates are expected to include new trim pieces and additional features.

Notably, the facelift will also see the production of left-hand drive versions for export. With this, the company will potentially increase the annual production by 25,000-30,000 units. Expect to see a small price bump over the current Magnite that starts at Rs 6 lakh.

Duster-Based 5-Seater SUV (Likely to be Called Terrano)

2025-renault-duster-bigster-speculative-render.jpg

The third SUV in the lineup is Nissan’s 5-seater SUV, which will be based on the new-generation Renault Duster. This model is expected to feature distinct styling elements such as L-shaped DRLs and a full-width LED light bar.

This model, like the new Duster, will be built on the modular CMF-B platform. Once launched, it will be competing with SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and other compact SUVs.

The SUV is expected to launch in late 2025. It has been reported that both the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano (which it could most likely be named) will come with petrol-only engines. Both SUVs are expected to come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in their base guise.

Next-Gen Duster-Based 7-Seater SUV

In addition to the 5-seater variant, Nissan will also introduce a 7-seater SUV based on the next-gen Duster. This model will feature a longer wheelbase. There could also be some distinctive styling changes to differentiate it from the 5-row variant.

Most likely, it will come with the same powertrain options as the 5-seater variant. In terms of competition, this SUV will compete with larger SUVs such as the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Alcazar.

Affordable Electric Vehicle (EV)

2014-Nissan-Leaf-Electric-Car-7.jpg

Not much is known about this SUV; however, it has been confirmed by Nissan that it will be offering an affordable EV in the country. This new entry-level hatchback will be based on the CMF-AEV platform. This EV aims to compete with models like the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. At the moment, the exact battery and electric motor specifications of this model have not been revealed by the company.
