Hi Major,
How's Gurkha doing??? Please update thread with your owner ship experience.
Few things would like to know:
-- Max speed that Gurkha can handle on highway without engine taking load/harsh vibes?
-- whats the mileage you get on highway's?
-- Any niggles so for?
-- Tried off roading?
? To other experts in Forum: How good/bad fitting manual lock hubs to Gurkha?
Thanks Major
Hi Boon,
Sorry for not replying earlier. Please find my answers inline -
-- Max speed that Gurkha can handle on highway without engine taking load/harsh vibes?
-------- Well the max that I have pushed it to is 120km/h - and that was on a straight stretch of highway. Wont usually push that far on normal stretch (with mild turns) as the Gurkha does feel somewhat awkward while turning fast.
-------- So mostly I drive at 90 to 100 km/h on highways good enough for me as I'm not speed freak
-- whats the mileage you get on highway's?
-------- I actually keep track of mileage - it gave me 12.5 on my last highway trip in July and it generally gives me 10.5 to 11 in city. Not at all bad, quite good in fact. I know many petrol hatchbacks give 13-14 in city - I don't mind the 2kms less for everything else that I get with the Gurkha
-- Any niggles so for?
-------- Well the odometer cable snapped once and it took more than a month for the service centre to get the spare.
-------- And the window beading has become unglued - so it is difficult to move the window panes. And there'sno spare beading available
Other than that it has generally been fine.
-- Tried off roading?
-------- Well not really, but many stretches of my daily commute from home to office feels almost like offroading. But then on a serious note, I didn't really buy this vehicle to do the "rich boy's 2nd vehicle to roger in the mud over the weekends" kind of offroading. I just wanted to be able to go anywhere, get off the road if I want to, without worrying if my vehicle can go. And fortunately I have been able to do that quite often - from taking the Gurkha all the way to the sea front to wandering off on dusty hill tracks. Hoping to push it further on future trips.
Hope that was useful.
One more important news for anyone interested in getting an almost new 2013 Gurkha at a discounted price. Well the showroom owner at Chennai was telling me a few weeks back that the new Gurkha is expected by end of year. It's a 5-door model with a BharatStage-4, CRDI engine. So he wants to sell this demo model for 2 Lakhs less than showroom price and it has doen some 4 or 5000 on the odo. I am sure someone must be interested in buying the simple old model with the more reliable engine before it is phased out.
