I'm new to driving. As of now completed 1000 KMs in my Ashtra ( my Golden Brown Honda city diesel), I hope I'm a sedate driver. Believe me.

City mileage - 18.5 to 20 KMPL
Highway & City Mileage - 23.3 KMPL for he stretch of 300KMs
Only Highway - 28 KMPL for 20 KM strecth with cruise control on @ 75KMPH in Outer Ring Road.
That's excellent figures.
Maybe i am wrong but i believe people in the south get better roads and less traffic.

Its true FE is majorly dependent on the person who is driving but there are other factors too.
Like road conditions, bumper to bumper traffic etc. I can derive a mileage of in excess of 18-19 kmpl in city constantly if i will drive sedately all the time, i don't get a lot of bumper to bumper traffic and jams. Also it stays ideal with AC on many times for 5-10 mins.

A highway trip of 800 km is coming soon. Will test FE figures with all kinds of drive including usage of cruise control and update my findings.

BTW i forgot to mention in my review ACC has always been on since the day of delivery. So, without AC at least a 2 km gain should be there.

THanks buddy!
Glad to see you liked the review. Being a first time writer i was apprehensive if it will be upto the forum's standard.

Its true. You also have a white one so you know it best how beautiful it looks from all angles.

Also, i do apologize for pic quality in some pics as all have been clicked by my humble Nexus 4 cam.[embarass]

Hi,
Congratulations on your new Honda City. Saw that you compared many cars, but missed out FIAT cars. Any particular reason?

Well, found the thread which I was looking for. I always had an itch to compare Manza with city 2014. and there can't be any other thread to serve this purpose as you own both City & Manza.
Congo for the white tiger but at the same time feeling like giving a tight slap on the face of the auto driver who tried to draw some black stripes on it.

Harry, good write up & good pic based illustrations. I will follow this thread.

Whoever has driven a Dzire or Manza with the national engine knows how much a pain it is to drive in such traffic with turbo lag.
Now, Is it apt to conclude that better low end torque of the City 2114 ispractically more useful while overtaking a car or truck ahead swiftly as compared to Manza.?
If you have taken TD of Linea diesel, would like to know the comparison on this as Linea comes with different tuning of engine than Manza.

*Fiesta classic :A drivers car but I find it really outdated. No offence to any owners. So, wasn’t considered seriously but kept in options just for the heck of it.
You didn't considered new fiesta also.

Sunny*. Drive is alright with some turbo lag. But the interiors are such a turn off. Boring is the right word. Except for space nothing is appealing about it.
IMO, dash of sunny is definitely upmarket.
I agree on space, but the punny rear seats doesn't do any justice with the space available.
Also, good that you stayed away from the Skoda, I agree their ASS behaviour with customers is lamentable & the cost of ASS might have led you to name the car as 'white elephant' rather than 'white tiger '!

then get back home and discuss if spending another 4 lac ( i can buy an entry level hatchback for that amount and it’s a significant figure for me) makes any sense.
Yes, this was one of the reason why I wanted to compare Manza with the City 2114.
First thing I checked was Engine noise. It wasn’t as much as I anticipated but was quite audible. If I can live with the engine noise of Manza I could easily survive City
Do you mean it is definitely lesser than Manza? If you get time, can you please check engine noise of both cars with help of decibel mmeasuring app on your mobile.?

colour *booked was Red but when I saw the white in person it was strikingly beautiful so changed it to white after 2 days. White was also the color preference of my parents so all in all we agreed on it unanimously.
Good, you canceled the red colour, Red colour is more prone for getting rear ended.
*
You can easily move from a speed of 10 in 2rd gear which is highly useful in bumper to bumper traffic.
What is your experience about Manza on this front.
Also, comment on clutch please.

Suspension *is on a stiffer side but ride quality is comfortable. It takes all small potholes with ease but you will the feel bigger ones. It could have been better.
What's the feedback from rear passengers on this.?

*
Turing radius is 5.3 meter which is quite useful in tight spaces. In comparison my Manza literally turns like a bloated tank.*
Is not it due to HPS & turbo lag of Manza?

*I was lucky to get Michelin Energy XM1 as stock tyres and they might be helping in the good handling department.
Yes XM1 are definitely better than other brands
Manza comes with OE 185/60 /R15 size, and city comes with smaller size, don't you feel like upsizing?
Does the owner's manual gives any guideline for upsizing?

Moustache chrome grill. It grows on you and looks much better in white and black
Agreed, for other colours they should have provided plain black mustache grill. But it seems Honda has finally ddecided to bow down to tastes of chrome crazy country. Same holds true for GC, for 15 odd years they kept on selling low GC cars in the country which is known for speed breakers, but finally they came up with good practical GC.

If he wouldn't have ran away that would have been the desired outcome. I was really pissed as it was just the second day of ownership with no fault of mine.

Harry, good write up & good pic based illustrations. I will follow this thread.
Thanks for the kind words.[:)]

Now, Is it apt to conclude that better low end torque of the City 2114 ispractically more useful while overtaking a car or truck ahead swiftly as compared to Manza.?
Absolutely. See, Manza has a good engine but it get messy with the initial turbo lag and very short gear ratios which makes it driving in city a pain. IT does very well on the highway upto the speeds of 120kmph. City is absolutely painless to drive within city limits. You can overtake a car, truck etc in 4-5 gear from speeds as less as 40kmph. Will be doing a thorough analysis of highway manners after my upcoming highway trip next week.

If you have taken TD of Linea diesel, would like to know the comparison on this as Linea comes with different tuning of engine than Manza.
I did took a TD of LInea diesel when we were buying the Manza. Don't think engine has gone any major modifications since then. I felt it was sluggish in comparison to Manza at that point. Can't comment if things have improved now.

You didn't considered new fiesta also.
I booked city in feb. Fiesta facelift has not been launched then. And the current one then was overpriced and not VFM at all. Plus like i mentioned in my review i need a lot of space and Fiesta doesn't score much in that.

IMO, dash of sunny is definitely upmarket.
I agree on space, but the punny rear seats doesn't do any justice with the space available.
It looks much better in the current facelifted one. At the time of my booking there was only old sunny which is actually boring, hence my comment. I forgot to mention i did sat in Sunny's rear seat for a while in a relatives car and i didn't find the ride as comfortable as i was expecting it to be.

Also, good that you stayed away from the Skoda, I agree their ASS behaviour with customers is lamentable & the cost of ASS might have led you to name the car as 'white elephant' rather than 'white tiger '!
WE have an octavia, laura and polo in the family. Trust me all 3 people who bought it have cursed themselves again and again for buying them. I will never touch anything from VW group seeing those results first hand.

Do you mean it is definitely lesser than Manza
It is at least 50% less than of Manza. Do not go by the td cars. They had more engine noise. Drive a city from July batch and you will see the difference yourself.

Good, you canceled the red colour, Red colour is more prone for getting rear ended.
That's an interesting point. Is that an observation or there are any stats to prove it? My cousin advised me not to get the red in city as his 3 year old city in the same color has started showing signs of paint getting faded a bit.

What is your experience about Manza on this front.
Also, comment on clutch please.
In City i can easily move in 2nd gear from an absolute standstill. In Manza it will stall or i have to upshift to first gear. Clutch is extremely good in City. Sometimes it takes me 2 hours to reach back home from office due to excessive jams. I have never felt tired or any pain in my knee due to constant use of the clutch.
Where as Manza has a very hard clutch and in every service i have to report it. SA says its a known thing and they can do nothing about it.

What's the feedback from rear passengers on this.?
Can't comment on this as my dad always sit in front with me. Will check with Mom and post.

* Is not it due to HPS & turbo lag of Manza?
How is turbo lag connected to turning radius? Sorry i didn't get it.

Does the owner's manual gives any guideline for upsizing?
I have confirmed with HONDA that any upsizing from the stock tyre will definitely void the warranty. Honestly i haven't felt the need to upsize. Maybe, the tyres are so good that's why. I had planned to upsize if i was alloted MRF or goodyear. Owner manual has no info cos Honda doesn't recommend it.

Agreed, for other colours they should have provided plain black mustache grill. But it seems Honda has finally decided to bow down to tastes of chrome crazy country.
Indeed. Here is a pic from another forum where some one has gone for it and it looks really good.

Better late than never. Competition has made these manufacturers sit up and take notice of the issues we customers have been reporting since long. Look at Verna, they had done suitable things to improve the suspension in 2014 model. Things will only improve from here.
For the record i haven't scraped even once since delivery day.

P.S- Did my first detailing session. Will post an update regarding the same real soon.

Sluggish movements of steering wheel & thereby the wheels get complemented by the slow movements of the car hence taking a u turn in tight situation becomes a time consuming affair and in turn leads to stagnation of the traffic around. & people around start making faces.
I agree technically turbo lag has nothing to do with the turning radius.

Here's a link & my own experience with red color.

The modified black grill really looks good, it seems he has scrapped the chrome coat & then got it painted matt black. But I think on your White Tiger, the chrome goes well, I feel you need not modify it immediately, wait for other white City owners to do it & take a decision after seeing it in flesh or pic.
With other colours, the chrome mustache is an eyesore, looks like swollen upper lip of a knocked out boxer.

Awaiting updates, please keep posting. Hondas have recently entered in to Indian diesel arena, it would be interesting to know how the praised HoASS does on this front in long run.

I was always taken back seat after seeing chrome mustache and now even in Black. later I liked the chrome. or may be Honda forced it on me.

Mine is Golden Brown. Just thinking whether can I go for black or stay with chrome?

Look my Ashtra in my thread, and give your comment.

According to colour complement theory, black doesn't go well with brown. IMHO, painting it body colour might look good.
Someone with PS job skills should do it & post a pic here.

I am highly impressed with the turning radius of City considering its a big car.
You are right. On white chrome will look better but on black that painted matt black looks better.

I believe the matt black look will gel better with the color of your car. Try it in photo shop and see how it looks.

MY first ever Detailing session.

1.- Used Muc off car shampoo.
2.- Applied Poorboys White diamond glaze.
3.- After 6 hours applied Poorboys Ex-p Sealant.

Combine time and everything done by hand- 4.5 hours.

Results are in pics below. Being a white car the reflection isn't much. Will appreciate suggestions to improve on it.

Omce I get Vitamin M, I will purchase a plastic grill and try with mat black. Anyway for Photoshop, I need to discuss with my brother. He is a good graphic designer.

• Auto driver scraped the left bumper on a red light crossing. Honda said they will paint whole panel and will cost 1500-2000 bucks. I gave 50 bucks to my painter and he did a fine job of concealing it.
