AFAIK VW uses synthetic Castrol B4 5W 40 Megnatec Professional oil. Will topping up with mobil good? Please tell us which grade oil it was and at what mileage you have topped up.
VW engines are known for oil consumption but i doubt the way oil level is checked by people at the workshop.
As soon as you reach the workshop they check it with hot engine with oil circulated everywhere, i don't thing it will show the correct reading.

@All
A shopkeeper in Mumbai told me that Castrol B4 5W 40 Megnatec Professional now re-branded as Castrol OE 5W 40 Megnatec Professional. Request to enlighten me on this.
Mobil 1 OW 40. This is the oil i used. I took the car to a garage and we waited for the engine to cool down and then we checked the oil level. The service mechanic there informed me that since it is same type of oil (synthetic), so it was ok.

P.S : sorry for the late reply, was held up at work.

Have given the car for first service today. Also the engine check light is on from yesterday. Hoping it is something minor, so I can get back my car soon.

Will upload the service bill as soon as I get my car.

Yes you are correct. VW Polo Petrol car's engine oil should meet VW 502 00 specifications and follwing fully synthetic oils in india meet this norm:
1. Castrol Megnatec Professional B4/OE 5W 40
2. Mobil 1 0W 40
3. Castrol Edge 5W 40 ( Available in 1/2 ltr. also)
4. Shell helix ultra 5W 40
5. Elf Total Qurtz 9000 Energy 5W 40

So any of this can be used for top up. All are priced similarly i.e. around 650-950 per litre.

Got my car back from service. The service bill was 7200.

The check engine light issue was not fixed. They tried fixing the wiring in the cylinder head. But the check engine light is coming back on after some time. I was informed they will change the engine cylinder head under warrenty. Parts have been ordered and it will come in 2 weeks time.

But a strange thing happened after that. I requested the car to be dropped off @ my home. The engine check light was on when the started from there, but when it reached my home it switched was off.

Have driven some 100 km after that and it has not come back again.

Hmmm strange to see check engine light coming in a car so soon! We faced this exact same problem in our Safari but we faced at after clocking a Lakh KM in the ODO only and TATA also were not able to sort out the issue completely. Looks like VW is no better either!!

I got this issue in my Optra after 3 years. They told me that no fault in the car and the ECU was faulty. So they changed it and the engine light was fixed.

Regarding VW polo they said that there is a problem wiring resulting in misfiring in the engine.

Need help from people here, whether replacing engine head is advisable.

Sometimes the engine check light gets on if some of the underbody sensors get wet due to washing or in heavy rainy conditions. Yours is a petrol Polo so it doesn't has a engine sump guard, in this case the sensors might have got some water while your car was being washed and may be the water had completly dried when the service guys reached at your home. I've heard many 1.2MPI engine head replacement and EGR cooler failure in earlier batch 1.2P POLOs, so these may also be reason for the warning light. Get your car checked as soon as possible, I am surprised why they couldn't diagnosed the real issue? VAG should have reported errors which are causing the engine check light blinking. May be you can get your car check at some other service station.

I written about sensors becasue if engine check light gets on due to unknown reasons, then the common reason for that is wet sensors.

I think they know the issue. So only they have ordered the parts for replacement.
