Yes DJ Bro, you might be right but remember the smoke was not normal it was abnormal.
Even considering the indica standards.

Some TT drivers nearby where mentioning the nozzle/compression problem might also result in this. Still not sure, will be taking the car to service center tomorrow & have asked them to retain the car for 2 days.

I had filled the fuel from below and did not fill in the hillstation at all.

I have checked the engine oil level its almost near the max level after they had filled during one of the visit, somehow the oil has not reduced atleast in the last 1300 kms. i need more time to observe this.

Cold starts even in bangalore the smoke is more but not to the levels of the hillstation however, it settles down after sometime. Once heated up everything is normal.

Then it's best to get it checked. There must be some minor error, mostly regarding the sensors or ECU. I have seen my Ertiga smoke black during the trips to Ooty, but white smoke is weird.
Hope you get it solved right.

White smoke usually comes out under these conditions:

1) Engine oil deposits are there inside the pistons or near cylinder head, but this episode of white smoke usually lasts for a shorter period of time i.e till that deposits get burnt away.

2) If you over-rev or over-strain the new engine too often while it is in Run-period, though not rarely but this can happen too. As it has happened with me too. Actually the over-revving the new engine causes the uneven wear of Piston rings & cylinder linings, which cause burning of engine oil & hence white smoke. If the smoke car emits is too smelly then most probably this could be the reason.

3) Another could be the Blown up engine gasket, causing Coolant & engine oil to mix, hence leading to white smoke. But this is associated with loud & abnormal engine noise. Usually this leads to seizing of an engine.

4) Last reason again, If the car has been traversed through Floods or high water which cause water to accumulate in its exhaust pipe & reaching upto exhaust manifold. But this episode does lasts for a shorter period until that foreign water goes away.

@gokul4h;
Please check the engine oil of your car from its dipstick. If its considerably lower than marked levels, then 2 & 3 could be the reason.
Also check if there's any warning indication in its instrument console.

I suspect the white smoke may be due to fuel quality. During your overnight parking, impurity might have settled at the lower part of the tank and it might have smoked till its gone. None of the other reason explains the white smoke for so long.

Thanks @Milemuncher, I have left the car today in KHT whitefield.

@DZEvoque, The smoke emitted was having burnt smell, however, I have done a proper run-in for 2000 kms.
This happens only during the cold start as I mentioned earlier though the smoke is less in bangalore still I see smoke which is a unusal.

I would not relate this to fuel adulteration as I see that the car has similar levels of smoke before and after my Kodaikanal trip with shell fuel.

List of issues reported whil dropping the car:
>excessive smoke only during the cold start in the morning for 20 mins. later setlles down as the engine is warmed-up.
>rattle noise on the right hand side of dashboard only during heavy acceleration
>cabin light loose contact
>water not spraying properly on the windscreen
> mud in the fuel tank cap area(known issue).

Except the first one all the other are not major issues. So I have asked them to retain the car as long as they want and return it and also have told them i dont even need a spare car but all that I need is the issue needs to be first identified.

I feel that you shouldn't have gone that easily on them . TASS needs to be screwed , only that does the job . lets hope that your neat intensions help to resolve all your niggles . But very disheartening to see a nice product plagued with niggles [frustration]. Hope that these Indian brands improve their QA .

Fingers crossed, hoping your issue will be fixed properly. Please keep us posted.

Entire dashboard was rattling for me (kinda like a paper rattle) when engine was on load. TASS guys rectified it with my complaint in TMSC app. Later I found this foam damping when I opened this panel to access OBD port:

HI TAI'ians,

Could nt upload the video but here the youtube video link..

Regards,
Gokul
Hi Gokul, congrats on your new purchase. I saw the youtube video.
Me too did a trip to Kodaikanal.

I have experienced the low temperature. I do not agree on different opinions. Please consult with TATA service advisor without delay. The diesel that available at Kodaikanal is better, and hence the smoke should not appear as in the video. Diesel is cheaper too. I filled my TANK(80L).

Thanks Mathew..

Yes I agree neither any of the diesel cars over there had this problem seems something wrong, I have left the car in the TASS yesterday and have told them to return only after identifying the problem.

Fingers crossed lets see what they have in store for me. Yet to get any update from them till now.

@gokul4h,

Thats definitely oil. Modern diesels only throw soot on high revs. And this is not soot. My Indica turbo (2007) has same issue. We got the head resurfacing done. Yet the issue stays. We are guessing, its either piston rings or the valve seating done was not correct.

NOTE: Have you seen any boiling like effect in the coolant reservoir?

ALSO NOTE: If you are on twitter make a gif and upload, tagging tata motors and pratap bose.

You had to remove the panel to access the OBD port? Where is the OBD port in Tiago located? OBD ports in other cars are easily accessible.

Hi
I have got my car yesterday, as per the kht motors they have changed some parameters in ecu. It seems this is done with Tata motors help. They have tested cold starts n it's working fine now.
I checked it today morning , the idling after cold starts is fine. However I need to test it more and also check in hillstation cold start which is the actual problem.
