Some more updates
Did Mumbai-Nashik-Mumbai this weekend. The roads are so inviting and driving is bliss. While going on Saturday there was moderate to heavy traffic. Moreover, my cousin also joined me in their new Fiat Linea. Since it is in run-in period, speeds were restricted to 100kmph mark. Nevertheless we took about 2hrs 45 min to reach our destination. Sunday was a day of testing everybody's provess on driving a BMW. My sister, her daughter, my cousin sister and her son all tried their hands at driving the BMW and were thrilled. My sister who drives the Uno (petrol and no power steering) was at total ease. By 10:15am I started my return journey back to Mumbai and decided that I will not exceed 100kmph. Unfortunately I forgot to reset the vehicle computer hence the FE figures give data pertaining to both journeys. The pictures below speak for themselves. The first two pictures are the ones I took enroute. The 3rd & 4th pictuers are those taken on reaching home (Mumbai). The 5th one shows the highway when I took the 1st & 2nd pict. The picts were taken on my iphone hence are not of DSLR quality. Moreover, the traffic was very light and it took me only 2hrs 17 min to reach Mumbai. I touched home at 12:32pm. Driving at 100 kmph feels so safe and light on the pocket. Also the time difference if I was faster would not have been more then 10-15 min. While driving on highways in India care about the following is to be taken
1. Vehicles coming on the wrong side.
2. Trucks driving slow on the right (fast) lane.
3. Sudden appearance of cattle and young kids.
4. Two wheelers changing lanes or turning right from the left lane without signalling.
5. Cars drivers speaking on mobile and not looking out for other vehicles.

I know I am being cynical but these are facts.

Now I await your comments.

Nice pics man. I went to Nashik last week, Th road is bliss to drive. But recently the road have generated many patches with potholes and need to slow down vehicle from high speed quickly. But yes the road is one of my favorite to drive my Punto. [clap]

Well congrats on your X1 !
If i remember right when you came to this forum you picked up the 3 series(i think you mentioned you were in the oil industry) which was some months back & you already got rid of it?
Anyways i feel the X1 looks good in dark colour so a good choice,i like the copper/bronze colour for the X1,but black suits it just fine :)

As for the seats thats a bold colour choice, reminds me of the F430 & Maserati's we see around here. Was that an option extra you picked? What was the charge?

Did you look into the Audi Q3 before going for the X1?

Thanks Akash. The Ganesha as well as the Balaji idol has been with me since my Optra days (2005). I make it a point to transfer it to the new car which I buy.

Well congrats on your X1 !

Thanks Prads. I did look at Q3. The fully loaded Q3 was almost 45L, the steering is too soft for my tastes and there was a waiting time for the Q3. The BMW guys were also offering me a better price for my 3 as compared to MB or Audi.

The seat color options available are black, biege and red-brown in the X1 exclusive and there is no additional cost.

Just a question out of curiosity. What is the purpose of the gauge within RPM meter gauge. [confused]
The guage within the rpm meter shows instant fuel consumption figures. It is anlog type unlike the punto which gives the same data in digital form.

Ahh. Ok. So that is L/100KM. I initially thought that is 1/100KM and that is where confusion started. [:D]. But then question is, why would BMW not give a digital instant FE when actually car cost so much. [frustration]

^ I think thats the Litres per 100 km indicator, that quite a common way of showing consumption in countries like UK.

I think it is more to do with aesthetics. Both main gauges have a sub-guage Speedo with Fuel meter and RPM with Instant consumtion meter[:)]

I got it at an OTR special price of 34.5L. The ICE is a standard BMW system, I am not sure of the make but somewhere I read it as designed by Harmon Kardon. The sound quality is very good and suits my soft music listening requierements.
