Ugly looking mini suv? I don't know this SUV fanboyism and where it is leading to.
Blame it on the buyer's aspirations. For those who might not be able to buy a C-SUV or F-SUV but still want to satisfy their urge of having a SUV'ish vehicle are the target of this car. It is a heart vs pocket scenario.
Man I envy Maruti designers, they don't have to rake any brains under the pretext of design. do any thing and it will sell. looking at that new tin car looks as flimsy as ever, interiors look all confused with weird design elements and lo you have winner. Evident cost cutting but no one complains in this segment. no matter what, under tired, under powered things will sell. Tiago will be the first causalty which I hate.
As far as the design is concerned, lets not forget that when the KWID came people had their reservations, Ignis came, then too people criticized it's looks but both of them are doing fine now with KWID becoming a game changer for Renault. When KUV came it's looks too were criticized but still it managed to get accepted in market. Personally to me the KWID design appears much cleaner than KUV and Spresso's design also appears proportionate to me than KUV. I have seen the car so based on that my opinions are (which I also shared with a surveyor from Japan @ launch)
* A proportionate design
* Would surely eat into the sales of Alto twins
* Plastic Quality at some places is below average
* Spacious inside specially for tall people
* Built Quality is typically of Maruti Suzuki
As far as Tiago is concerned, it is by leaps a much better product without doubt and Tiago & Spresso have no match. I would say, this one will eat out the Redi-Go. Still, I feel Maruti Suzuki had a brilliant opportunity which it hasn't been able to use to it's benefit since the exterior design is debatable but interiors are much better in design and ergonomics. However, Lets wait for the KWID facelift launch and I am sure seeing the launch today, we shall be in for a surprise from Renault. The upcoming KWID as seen in many videos has got a much bolder design and honestly, MSIL should have taken a leaf off from the Renault's design philosophy. The new KWID rises over the Spresso in more than one way. Feature wise, as seen in videos, the KWID appears to be a better deal than this. If the new KWID with 1.0 MT undercuts the Spresso (STD version) by 15-20K minimum as an introductory price then for sure tough competition is unavoidable.
Having said all of it, for me what's still more important is the NCAP ratings for S-presso. Made in India with 98% Localization & Hartec Platform, I would like to know how many stars it gets. Having gone through the specs, most likely the NCAP test
probably wouldn't confirm the structure to be stable.
