Maruti Suzuki eVX Global Debut in January 2025

Maruti Suzuki will take the wraps off its first born-EV SUV – based on the eVX concept – in October next year, with a price announcement also expected around the same time. This all-electric SUV is being developed with Toyota, which will have its own version debuting a little later.

Maruti and Toyota's born-EV SUVs will be built at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant that has a target to manufacture over 1.25 lakh vehicles per annum at full capacity. This will be the mother plant for both SUVs and will cater to, both, the domestic and export markets. The SUV will go on sale in India first, despite being a global offering. The platform used by Maruti’s eVX SUV – and its Toyota version – is a derivative of Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture, which is internally codenamed 27PL and is being heavily localised.

The SUV was recently spotted testing in Poland in near production-ready avatar. This new born-EV SUV will be 4.3 metres long and will be aimed squarely at the upcoming Creta EV, which is expected to be shown at the 2025 Auto Expo. The EV SUV will have a 2,700mm wheelbase, thanks to the born-EV skateboard platform, which will help liberate cabin room. The eVX-based SUV will also have plush interiors and a decent list of creature comforts, safety features and tech.

As far as powertrain goes, Maruti had announced at the 2023 Auto Expo that the concept had a 60kWh battery with 550km range. The production version is expected to have similar capacity battery, with a real-world range of around 500km, however, the entry-level variant is expected to come equipped with a smaller battery of around 48kWh and around 400km of real-world range.

Hyundai is readying a Creta EV which will most likely see a debut in early 2025. The Creta EV from Hyundai will be the arch rival of the Maruti eVX electric SUV.

The production version is expected to have similar capacity battery, with a real-world range of around 500km, however, the entry-level variant is expected to come equipped with a smaller battery of around 48kWh and around 400km of real-world range.

60kw battery will bump up the cost of the car. And the size of the car needs to be longer, about 4.3-4.5 meters, as it has hold a larger battery also maintaining a high ground clearance and good internal space. With such specifications, Maruti cannot price the car below 35 lakhs.
I am sure it will be a battery pack around 40-45kw should suffice for the price of around 24 lakhs.

If battery size is 60 kWh then it’s not in creta’s category
The cost would be pretty high to sell and Maruti is in no space to sell a car with cost as high as 25 to 30 lacs of the car of this size and which looks like another iteration of fronx or big sister of vitara from the looks of it

Maruti Suzuki EVX interiors revealed

Launch in India is expected in early 2025. Here, Maruti Suzuki EVX will compete with the likes of upcoming Creta EV, Seltos EV and Tata Curvv. Suzuki will be revealing the updated version of EVX at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2023.

Browsing the interiors of Suzuki EVX is a true delight, as it’s unlike any other seen with a mainstream SUV. Some of the key highlights include a uniquely designed sleek dashboard and a large screen comprising the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. The AC vents wrap around the dashboard, adding more dynamism to the cockpit section.

There’s a new two-spoke steering wheel with a windswept profile, mirroring the design of dashboard. It is apparent that steering wheel rotation will be minimal, quite like a sports car or race car. Another noticeable aspect is that there are hardly any physical buttons inside the SUV. Suzuki seems to be aiming for a completely digital experience with the EVX. It will be made possible with capacitive touch controls across the dashboard and the large touchscreen.

New Suzuki eVX will be the brand’s first electric car

Not only will Suzuki have a next-generation Swift concept at this month’s Tokyo Motor Show, but its first pure-electric car will be there too in the shape of the eVX.

Suzuki’s entire range of passenger cars is now electrified in some way, but the glaring omission of a fully-electric offering will soon be filled by the new eVX. We expect the eVX to rival small electric SUVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric, Jeep Avenger and Kia’s upcoming EV3. There’s no word yet on if it’ll come to the UK, but if it does then a timeline of around 2025 seems likely.

Previously showcased at the Auto Expo in India back in January, Suzuki says the eVX has had its exterior ‘evolved’ from that concept and while Suzuki refrains from calling the current eVX design model a concept, new images of the interior suggest it’s not quite production-ready.

To help it stand out against a series of excellent competitors, it’ll get Suzuki’s traditionally chunky off-road stance. That’s not to say the eVX won’t look modern, though. Suzuki’s first all-electric car looks comparatively futuristic next to the firm’s current line up thanks to angular surfacing and flush-fitting door handles. Some elements of the eVX have been tweaked over the original concept: there are now wing mirrors rather than cameras, and the headlights have been reshaped.

The rear of the car has now been shown for the first time ahead of its unveiling in Tokyo. The overall shape of the rear isn’t too different from the concept, although the bumper has been reshaped and instead of a full-width rear light bar, it’s blanked off on either side of the Suzuki badge.

Our first look inside the eVX reveals a strange steering wheel that looks like something from a Salvador Dali painting. The core climate control functions are lit up on the dash as touchpads and there’s a huge dual-screen positioned on the dash. A sleek centre console panel extends out with the gear selector on the end.

We don’t know the underpinnings of the eVX just yet, but given Toyota and Suzuki’s partnership, we could see a sharing of technology, potentially with the eVX gaining a Toyota platform from the similarly-sized bZ3X. We expect four-wheel drive given Suzuki claims the eVX ‘realises true Suzuki SUV driving experience by further evolving the electronically-controlled 4x4 technologies.’

Suzuki claims the eVX will manage 310 miles of range thanks to a 60kWh battery - that’s 35 miles more than a Kia Niro EV and 62 miles more than a Jeep Avenger.

"Our first EV, an SUV, will be launched in the next financial year (FY2024-2025). At present, the SMG facility at Hansalpur has three plants – A, B and C. Now, to manufacture the EV, a new production line will be added," says Maruti Suzuki executive director (Corporate Affairs), Rahul Bharti. He added, "Our EV concept car has already been unveiled. It will be a high-specification SUV having 550km range and a 60kWh battery," he said, adding that no specific number has been finalised yet about the number of units to be rolled out from the plant.

Maruti EVX Electric spied testing with 5-6 people onboard

Suzuki is among the last mainstream car manufacturers to foray into electric car realm. Their first-ever BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) is due to launch in 2025. Called eVX, it has been spied on multiple occasions. Latest spy shots show the car’s new alloy wheels design.

Recent spy shots of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX are from automotive enthusiast Chirag Rajput who spotted it in Gurugram, Haryana. These spy shots show interesting new details about the production-spec version of eVX ahead of launch. We’re talking about the e-SUV’s new 5-spoke alloy wheel design.

Upcoming eVX is burdened with setting footprints across the globe. In that regard, it has to compete at the highest level against both established players and newbies. So, the premium quotient is pretty high on this vehicle. Suzuki is offering a floating centre console in eVX and we see a modern dashboard layout. There should be extensive soft-touch materials all around and from previous spy shots, seats look like they belong in a premium vehicle. Steering wheel gets a flat-bottom effect and looks sophisticated enough.

On the outside, we get projector headlights, C-Pillar mounted rear door handles, radar and camera based ADAS, a 360-camera for blind-spot monitoring, a charging port on the front-left quarter panel and more. The battery is speculated to be around 45 kWh unit to 60 kWh unit and we can expect both single-motor FWD and dual-motor AWD layouts. Promised range might be around the 500 km mark on a single charge. Like its ICE portfolio, Suzuki is likely to strike price competitiveness. There is no launch timeline announced, but 2025 might be the year and eVX may globally debut in India.
