Hi guys,

Am getting delivery of my ciaz probably next week. Am planning to change to 17" wheels & Tyre. Can anyone suggest me what size tyres should I go for??

I also heard that if we increase the j size, there are chances of Tyre rubbing the body line too. Is it true?

Guys please help me out.

OK thanks. So can you help me which j wheels should I go for?
Is it OK if I put 17x8j wheels with 215/40r17??

Also my car will be loaded with 4 members all the time. So is there any chance of tyre side wall rubbing body line in any humps??

What is the stock tyre size of your variant?

195/55r16 is the stock Tyre size for zdi+
205/45R17 would be the best possible upsize in 205 section, followed by 205/50R17.

For more wider 215 section, 215/45R17 would be your best bet. Beyond 215 section, the looks would become very weird without suspension lowering (and body kit) and a 40 profile would not suit Indian roads very well.

Since you are planning for loading luggage with 4 people, stick to 205/45 or 205/50 (if former is not available). The chance of rubbing on body is more with wider tyres, so 215 section has more chances than 205 section, which itself might rub as it is wider than company spec.

The J size is rim width. I would not go into the details. Simple rule is to select the available alloy rims at your tyre dealer and opt for the one which has closest 'J' value to the stock alloys. Selecting a fixed J value will limit your alloy design choices. Remember not to go too wide (one step is fine) as the chances of rubbing on wheel wells will increase on full load.

Is it possible to install driver seat height adjuster in VXi model. Can the mechanism be fit on to the seat or does the seat itself has to be be changed?

What about 195/50 R17 ? , I've seen 205/45 fitted on multiple cars but sidewall height is too low, 205/50 R17 is too big!

Seat has to be changed. Many have done in lower Swift variants (fitted Zxi seats) and I think Ciaz would also have a similar process.

chairmansaab - Then what is the point in going for 17"? [:)] I don't think it is wise to disturb ABS setting and take the risk of tyre scraping just for that extra inch, when the tyre size remains the same.

Since there is no other middle value, the tyre size has to be either 45 profile or 50 profile. Here we shall stick to the one which results in lesser overall diameter difference. So 45 profile is more favourable.

aryans3012 - 215 section would be too wide for the car. Believe it or not, chances of scraping would be very high and reverting back to stock or a different setup means a minimum loss of 10k. On bad roads, 40 profile would prove too harsh for the suspension and other components. A lower profile would mean that your alloys have chances of cracking/breaking due to potholes, etc..

OK so how about 215/45r17??
215/45R17 is the best possible upsize, closest to stock diameter. It will be better than 215/40 in every aspect except handling, but that wouldn't matter as you will have already improved handling even with 215/45R17.

@ice_wise what you mean by "tyre size remains the same"? Which particular number are we talking about here?

He is opting for 17" because of it's aesthetic value and handling right? Then what's wrong with my original comment?
