The one that hold the distributor in place.I recently changes the rubber seal in the distributor because it was spewing a little oil every now and then. Now its completely dry.

Why don't you take out the distributor and service it.Check it thoroughly.Check the wear on the gear and the shaft.Eliminate all possibilities one by one.

When to change Drivebelt & timing belt

Last year (in feb 2014) I purchased 2001 model 5-geared maruti 800 car with a mileage of ~36000km. General checkup, engine oil brake, suspensions, tyres change, balancing, water pump belt change were done (at maruti authorised service center) and the car is now in very good condition. Present mileage is 40000km.
Should I change "Drive & timing belts" to avoid intermittent & sudden break down. How should I ensure myself that they are in good condition. Pls advice

I changed mine at about 69500 kms. I saw that the only way to check the belt is to open the belt cover and physically check it. With regular use, the belt will last for about 70-80k kms. With irregular use, since it is a rubber component, you might want to get it checked and replace it for a peace of mind. Belt+tensioner+MASS labour will cost about Rs.1700 and is a half hour job but will ensure a peace of mind when driving it around.

Cheers!

While Flushing the Engine Oil on 28th March 2017, and since the Mechanic opened the engine Cover to see the condition of any carbon deposit( of course my 19 yrs Maruti 800 DX has been maintained nicely from time to time), glad to observe that there was no deposit or sludge whatsoever.
Out of curiosity, I asked him to check the Timing Belt, though my car clocked only about 54000 km in these 19 yrs, as my usage is very less in the past 4 yrs limited to city use only. I did read that the life of Timing Belt is around 1 lac km but most of the mechanic say better to change it after 50,000kms. I did observe a small crack ( very small and mechanic said it is not dangerous) but I forced him to change it and we got MGP- JK costing Rs 830. Normally they charge anything from Rs 400-500 for changing this belt. But he did not charge me anything extra for this change, as it was almost a full day job for him to flush the oil and change engine oil, change spark plus, Point condenser, fuel n oil filter, clean the air filter, change fan belt, servicing of all brake pads, cynd assbly , greasing of caliper etc.
So it is always advisable to check the Timing Belt after clocking 50000 km.
