Honda is now the fourth largest car manufacturer in India after Maruti, Hyundai and Mahindra, leaving behind Tata and Toyota.

SUVs market share (22.80%) shown in "Market share by Body style, (4th Picture from Top)", is that correct? SUVs may be around 10%.

Car manufactures market share of Honda (7.91%) is interestingly growing. The sale of Honda City is promising. As per sales chart (above 10Lakhs), the best vehicle by demand is Honda City. Honda marketing strategy is good.

Can't understand what's keeping TATA from writing off ARIA?High time they realise their folly.Honda is the one who has moved the cheese for many.Verna has met its nemesis, and what one at that.City is decimating the competition, maybe that huge grinning chrome grill was a pointer to the times ahead.Ford has its tail between the legs, what a missed opportunity.Skoda has achieved something despicable,to be overtaken by Fiat with two old horses shows how well informed are the consumers.Skoda needs a hatchback,an SUV below Yeti and a facelift for Rapid to keep going. But I don't see that for another year.Even their best bet Octavia is having long waiting period.Hyundai is learning a few things by having too many products with similar prices. They should axe the i10.And with no car launches for next few months I don't think sales is going to improve. But this is for sure the year of HONDA.With Mobilio and Jazz lined up this year they are inching closer to Mahindra. But Zest can be a spoilsport.Interesting to see how the fight for 4th and 5th position turn out to be.

I feel that the 2014 Aria nor the Vista tech are goung to set the markets on fire.
The better nano still will not break even at TML.
Hope the Zest Bolt really click

Check the Ambassador sales. It is very interesting to observe Hindustan Motors marketing strategy. They have picked up 200 numbers. Did they revise anything on Ambassador specifications. Pajero Sport sales numbers also increasing.

Lok Sabha elections fail to rev up SUV sales this year

NEW DELHI: The familiar large convoys of SUVs and utility vehicles such as Bolero, Scorpio, Innova, Fortuner and Endeavour leaving behind a trail of dust as netas criss-cross for campaigns haven't translated into big-bang sales of these vehicles around 2014 Lok Sabha polls, which are dubbed as most expensive in country's history.

Unlike in the past, this time around SUVs and utility vehicles seem to be losing lustre, putting paid to hopes of those in the auto industry who were banking on improved sales of these vehicles during the election time.

While the overall slowdown in the economy has impacted automobile sales, availability of smarter means to reach out to the electorate such as SMSs and social media also seem to have impacted the sale of these vehicles for electioneering.

According to latest data of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), sales of utility vehicles, under which the SUVs are also classified, were down 4.55 per cent in March at 51,414 units as against 53,866 units in the same month last year.

Similarly, in February also, sales of utility vehicles were down 9.09 per cent at 43,507 units as against 47,859 units in the same month in 2013.

"Elections have not had a positive impact on sales of SUVs and utility vehicles this time around. In the past, there used to be some increase in sales of these vehicles," SIAM president Vikram Kirloskar said.

According to him, in modern times, there are better and more effective means such as SMSs to reach out to the electorate.

His view is in fact supported by the historical data of sales of these vehicles in the previous two general elections.

Ahead of the 2004 general elections which were held in April-May, as per SIAM data, sales of utility vehicles grew by 46.34 per cent to 13,796 units in February 2004 as compared to 9,427 units in the same month previous year.

Likewise, sales of utility vehicles in March 2004 grew by 6.38 per cent to 16,281 units from 15,304 units in the year-ago month.

However, in 2009, when the country was coming out from the impact of a global financial downturn that hurt the automobile industry badly, the general elections then did not result in robust demand for the SUVs and utility vehicles.

According to SIAM, sales of utility vehicles in February 2009 were down by 13.13 per cent to 19,151 units as compared to 22,048 units in the year-ago month.

In March 2009, sales of the same vehicles were also down by 8.64 per cent to 26,647 units as against 29,169 units in March 2008.

Explaining the current trend, Country CEO and managing director, Renault Operations in India, Sumit Sawhney, said: "There is nothing specific to elections that we have seen related to sales increase. The March month growth is due to the financial year ending as usual."

Expressing similar views, Mahindra & Mahindra chief executive (automotive division) Pravin Shah said: "We see some sort of increase in inquiry, that is, however, not connected to a visible increase in sales."

The reason for the increase in inquiry could be the reduction in excise duty announced in the budget or for some of the products from demand in some states on account of elections, he added.

Maruti Suzuki India today posted a 35.46 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 800.05 crore for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2014.

The company had posted a profit of Rs 1,239.62 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Net sales of the company declined by 9.48 per cent at Rs 11,818.13 crore from Rs 13,056.26 crore a year earlier.
Lower volumes, higher sales promotion expense and a stock compensation to dealers owing to reduction in excise duty (exceptional expense) impacted the company's bottomline during the quarter.
Sales dropped 5.48 per cent to 3,24,870 vehicles during the fourth quarter from 3,43,709 units in the same period of last year.

I was a bit surprised by April 2014 Sales Figures of Honda. Its definitely down on MoM figures and is higher then YoY Sales.

What has happened to Brio? First time i think it has come down under 1000 units.
Is the Lack of diesel heart, Lack of Special Features the reason?

The Amaze has come down dramatically from constant 7k units to 3.3k units.

Again Lack of Special Features, Slightly Cheaper Interiors compared to Rivals and slight premium pricing. City sales is ok, its selling at constant 7k.

What Honda must do ?

When they Facelift/Update the Brio/Amaze they must ensure they provide it with lot of Kit. Indian's are obsessed about Features and Equipment List. Hyundai cars are popular because of this. Honda have addressed this issue with 2014 City.

We must remember that Honda is targeting Volumes and if they want that they must load their cars with Features. Mechanically, Honda cars are Best. So Honda just needs to address the Equipment Section of their Cars.

I being a Brio owner never minded the features that rivals offer, i wanted a car with good Dynamics, engine.

But majority of Indians are not like me, they are opposite. They want Looks and Features.

What I have also seen is the sales executives at honda showrooms try to push people who want to buy a brio into buying an amaze. This might be a reason too. I have known 2 such people in the past year or so. They went to enquire about the top-end brio and bought a low-variant and mid-variant amaze.
