Re: Mahindra XUV-500 Face-Lift Manual (Diesel) Driven

Nicely written review. This review is more important for me as we are planning to buy XUV in near future.I was following this facelift before its launch. We almost decided to buy older one but told my father that facelift is coming,so decided to wait till facelift comes. This would be second car as a company for Vento, which we have presently and crossed 76000 Km.I always feel XUV is VFM than sedans like City,Verna.

On road prices of XUV:

W4-13.6L
W6-14.95L
W8-17L
W10-18L

Excellent review there mate, I just wish that Mahindra adds the rear number plate applique as an acessory which can fit into the previous gen XUV's (I quite hate that hitler mustache at the rear in my XUV)

Akash1886, What is your take on the sunroof in the W10? I have two kids and they love to put out their heads in my cousins Xtrail. The sunroof seems to be small so can kids at the rear seat peep out through the sunroof?

Thanks buddy. XUV face lift has electric sunroof firstly. As of the size, its pretty decent. But if your kids want to peep out through it, best would be one at a time only.

A very well written review and loads of info regarding the new age xuv5oo. Thanks Akash1886. I really love this SUV. Could you please tell me if it is feasible to drive the xuv5oo in city traffic conditions? Is it difficult to park and drive xuv500 as compared to small hatchbacks like swift etc?

Depending on your experience and comfort level while driving the XUV5oo, you may or may not face any difficulty in parking/driving the car. Say, a learner would definitely find it difficult to drive it at first and an experienced (cannot be defined, basically not a rookie) can drive it easily after some times of getting used.

Personally, you should TD the car first in city conditions to see your suitability with vehicle.

My pleasure indeed Aakarsh, Talking about this particular XUV-500, as mentioned in review, I did not find it difficult to drive it in traffic, thanks to its brakes and cornering. As mentioned by Nikunj above, comfort level to drive any car for that matter is really important to understand the pros and cons of it. Parking as you know, A small car takes less space and big one will definitely take more space. However, in today's time parking spaces are nothing less than Gold. It does need a minimum parking space to park and come out of it. It depends on the available space and parking skills of the driver buddy.

Am a bit concerned about 170mm GC. It means Mahindra has continued to apply that dummy engine guard or whatever to get around those stupid excise regulations. Which also means owners still need to be careful about taking the XUV for mild offroading, especially in the front overhang. Mahindra should have really given a clean underbody and uniform GC, whilst absorbing some of the excise related penalties. Its not a ladder-frame aka Scorpio, where the 189mm GC (on paper) translates to much more GC in actual dynamic conditions.

Ace, though I do not have any off-road experience so far but when I drove this SUV, atleast on city roads and the kind of speed breakers we have here in Delhi and NOIDA, it did not scrap through any of them. The ride was pretty comfortable in my opinion, but, ya this car wont be sold only in Delhi-NCR, it would be sold pan-India. Hence, considering it to be an SUV, 170mm GC is a tad low. Those who'll buy it for Off-road adventure need to be a bit careful.

That stupid engine guard reduces the price of the vehicle by 20-30k, isn't that cool?

Just remove the plastic guard if it is a bother!

XUV is a crossover which is not designed for off roading.

Actually the higher GC in the Scorpio is because it is a RWD vehicle and it has a differential hanging low. The GC is measured from the lowest point.

Thanks Nikunj for the information and yes I completely agree with you on this point.Practise is the key when you get on the pilot seat for the first time on a certain vehicle.
I hope we will have a cheetah in our home in the near future.fingers crossed!

Yes Akash
You are absolutely correct at this point.
A big car will absolutely need more space to relax and very nicely quoted[:)]"vacant parking slots as gold"
and when xuv5oo is concerned i think its 5.3mts turning radius makes parking much easier despite of its huge dimensions.
