Mahindra Thar ROXX: All you need to know
Prior to the official launch, the company has shared a number of teasers and details about this upcoming 5-door variant of the much-loved off-roading SUV. So, we thought we should compile all of the information about this highly anticipated SUV before its official launch. Here’s everything we know about the Mahindra Thar Roxx.
First off, let’s start at the front end of the Mahindra Thar Roxx. The SUV retains a similar front fascia; however, it gets several design updates that set it apart. It features a refreshed grille with a distinctive pattern of six hollow rectangles on top and four on the bottom.
It also gets complemented by triangular elements at the edges. This grille will be finished in the body color. The headlights have also been upgraded to all-LED units, complete with C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs). These replace the halogen lights found in the 3-door model.
Moving to the side profile, the Thar Roxx’s main highlight will be the additional two doors in the middle, which will get door handles positioned on the C-pillar. It will also get a new set of massive 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with a windmill-inspired design.
It will also get side steps with silver accents, a triangular rear quarter glass, and the wheel arches have been redesigned with a more angular, square look. The rear of the Thar Roxx gets a new bumper design and a new design for the LED taillights.
Interior Design
Coming to the interior of the Mahindra Thar Roxx, it has also been significantly upgraded to make it more premium and upscale. This time around, the company has utilized high-quality materials, including beige leatherette upholstery and beautiful stitching on the dashboard. It also gets modern amenities such as ventilated front seats and power-adjustable driver seats.
The Thar Roxx also features a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, similar to that found in the recently launched Mahindra XUV 3XO. This system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the vehicle will come equipped with a fully digital 10.25-inch driver’s display.
For the rear passengers, Mahindra has included dedicated AC vents. The SUV also boasts a panoramic sunroof, a first for the Thar series, which is expected to be a major selling point. Other interior features will include cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
Safety Features
The Mahindra Thar Roxx, in terms of safety features, will offer Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The list of features will include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, among other features. In addition to ADAS, the Thar Roxx will come equipped with six airbags and a 360-degree camera system.
It will also get ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and electronic stability control. The vehicle also features an electronic brake-locking differential on the front and a mechanically locking rear differential, hill descent control, off-road crawl control, and intelli-turn assist.
As for the powerplant, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to offer a choice of two engine options. The first will be a 2.0-liter mFalcon turbo-petrol engine. This will be available in two states of tune. The first will be 160 bhp with 330 Nm of torque for the base trims. Then there will be a 175 bhp with 380 Nm of torque variant.
Meanwhile, the second engine option is a 2.2-liter mHawk turbo-diesel engine. This will produce 150 bhp and 350 Nm of torque in the base trims, and 175 bhp and 380 Nm of torque in the higher trims. Both engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a torque converter automatic gearbox.
Also, the Thar Roxx will become available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) variants. One of the standout features of the Thar Roxx will be its advanced suspension setup. The vehicle utilizes Scorpio-N-derived Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers with a penta-link suspension setup on the rear.
The 2024 Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to be priced starting from around Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be positioned as a more feature-rich and practical alternative to the current 3-door Thar. In the Indian market, it will face competition from the Force Gurkha 5-door. Also, it will serve as a larger and more luxurious alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
