Re: Fiat India Serious About Bringing Chrysler and JEEP Brand

looks are far better than m&m xuv 500
Ohhh anytime and anyday I have sat in one m&m and tata will take years to come with that king of quality . But then again it's also very very expensive
Jeep Cherokee fights with the likes of Audi and BMW compared to them the interiors are not so great .

Re: Fiat Seriously Considering Bringing Chrysler and Jeep Brand in India

This morning during the launch of Fiat Absolute Editions, Fiat has hinted about the release of Chrysler brand even though there is no official announcement of it. You can also notice that Fiat is now using the Chrysler logo on all the press releases that are issued of late.

Jeep Grand Cherokee anyone !!
Forget Cherokee, I’m now more interested to check out Wrangler after seeing her capabilities on “One car too far”. It’s a ‘Jeep’ thing in real sense for sure.

Yes Vibbs, I am also damn impressed with Wrangler's capabilities alongwith Bill's.But do you think Fiat would be able to price Wrangler under 10 lacs also procure a diesel engine for it since American market is primarily a petrol oriented market and people prefer even SUVs with petrol power-plant.

I have a gut feel that this 'One Car too Far' serial will help Mahindra sell few extra units of THAR and CJ.

Jeep Wrangler would be positioned as a niche car if introduced in India. It would target a group of particular buyers. Just like Fiat 500, VW Beetle etc. that although are hatchbacks but focus on a different segment altogether. Its MSRP is $22,045 in U.S. So it doesn’t seems Indians can dream of owning a New Wrangler for less than 10 Lakh that too if manufactured locally which might not be the case here depending upon the market response.

Yes. That’s true. However, there is no point to own a Jeep if someone has regular schedule of 9 to 5. These cars are just not supposed to be driven on normal tarmac. I’m myself motivated to own a Jeep and go for camping over weekends. This culture is slowly picking up in India and I can only predict it prospering in the near future.

Re: Fiat Seriously Considering Bringing Chrysler and Jeep Brand in India

In the past few weeks, Fiat has sent out a few press releases, where along with the Fiat logo, there was the Chrysler logo as well. Confusion prevailed as to why the Chrysler logo has been put on Fiat India’s press releases, when the former company has absolutely no presence in the country. Turns out, Fiat is already working on bringing the Jeep brand to India and the Italian automaker confirmed the same at the ongoing Paris Motor Show.
Fiat India will launch the Jeep Grande Cherokee in the Indian market next year, bringing it through the CBU route. The off-roader will be priced at around Rs. 40 lakhs and if there is demand, Fiat might consider CKD operations at their Ranjangaon facility. At that price, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will have to fend off competition from the Land Rover Freelander 2, Toyota Prado, Mitsubishi Montero, BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The Grand Cherokee is based on the old Mercedes-Benz M-Class platform and has received 4-star safety rating from EuroNCAP.
The Jeep Grande Cherokee is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine which was engineered by Fiat Powertain. This engine is available in two sets of tune, 188 BHP, 440 Nm and 237 BHP, 550 Nm. We are likely to get the more powerful engine. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The fourth generation Grand Cherokee is also available in a SRT-8 version which is the most powerful Jeep till date. This version of the Grande Cherokee produces 465 BHP of power from its 6.4-litre V8 engine.
What is so special about Jeep? They were the inventors of the SUV and are the oldest 4-wheel drive brand in the world. You must have heard and seen the iconic CJ series of army jeeps, they were developed by them. Fiat will setup a new distribution network for Jeep and post the launch of the Grand Cherokee, other vehicles like the Patriot, Commander and Compass might be brought to India. Fiat should also consider bringing in Dodge to the Indian market.

COME 2013, FIAT TO LAUNCH JEEP BRAND IN INDIA; OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT COMING IN DECEMBER

Fiat India is indeed planning to bring the Jeep brand of SUVs to the Indian car market. An official announcement in this regard is expected to be made in December, with 2013 being the year in which the Jeep range of SUVs could make their Indian debut. The Jeep range of SUVs are initially expected to be brought in through the CBU route. This could result in steep pricing, which suggests that the Jeep brand seems more like a brand builder for the next couple of years, at least until Fiat begins local assembly of the Jeep range of SUVs in India through the CKD route.

Yes. Official announcement is expected to be in December. Hope FIAT marketing team wakes up and comes out with a big bang approach like launch of multiple FIAT exclusive outlets during this official announcement etc. They always fail in capturing common man's attention [frustration]

Re: Fiat Seriously Considering Bringing Chrysler and Jeep Brand in India

Jeep's entry to reduce Tata-Fiat ties only to engines

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne’s announcement of bringing Jeep to India has triggered a lot of movement at Fiat India. After ending the sales JV with Tata in May 2012, the next step is to stop production of the Manza at Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant. Vendors supplying to Tata Motors have already been instructed to shift supply of components from Ranjangaon to Tata’s plant in Pimpri.

The JV between Tata and Fiat was believed to be an understanding that Tata was to undertake sales and service responsibilities and Fiat was to manage production of the Manza at their plant. Tata’s failure at the sales and service front resulted in conclusion of the sales JV and now since Tata’s contribution to the JV has been removed, Fiat has no reason to continue production of Tata’s Manza at their plant. And now that Marchionne has announced introduction of the Jeep brand, Fiat could be making space for its own future models at the plant. This development should go hand in hand with announcements we are expecting to be made by Mike Manley- President and CEO – Jeep and Chrysler Group LLC, Chief Operating Officer- Fiat-Chrysler Asia Pacific at a press conference to be held in Mumbai within a week, this is specifically with regards to Jeep operations beginning in India.

In the coming months, the entire assembly line of the Tata Manza will be shifted to Pimpri. In order to make space for production of the Manza, production of some slow-selling models will be shifted to Tata’s 953 acre Pantnagar facility where it currently manufactures the Ace and Magic.
