Azim Premji of Wipro had Maruti Esteem & finally his driver got fed up of car as maintenance cost were also piling up. After several pleas from his driver, he bought Toyota Corolla after using Esteem for 7 years.

Once i had to arrange cab for his visit to our office. When we checked with his office about his preference, got informed that Innova is sufficient.as 3 of other senior officials coming with him, we had arranged 2 Innova and one Logan for keep their luggage. While a brand new Innova waiting for him, he moved to the Logan's friend seat, which was parked far behind the other 2 Innovas. Later got the information from the Logan driver, that he asked about the Logan's mileage and maintenance and also informed him,he likes Logan. Heared that he is very simple person, prefers economy class in flights,walk to his nearby office and stay in queue for the food in office cafeteria.

I feel this is more of a publicity stunt than anything else. Gift is just an excuse, real matter is people want world to know what they have purchased.
Mukesh Ambani gifted his wife, an Airbus A319 jet, but it is more used by Mukesh, top RIL management & some politicians rather than his wife.
