Earlier Hyundai and now Tata propose to increase the prices.[anger]

Now onwards festive season every where (Onam in Kerala and then Diwali, Christmas, year end likewise) and they need to give away attractive discount offers to keep customers interested in their product. Anticipating such extra expenses, they are convincingly increasing the price of cars.[roll]

Tata Motors Dealer just called me and advised that all Tata Car prices will be increased from tonight. It will be around 2% of base rate, which means there will be a slight increase in Road Tax as well as insurance amount.

(They suggest me to pay some booking amount and block a car within today in order to avoid the price increase).

Maruti to hike prices across models this month

Maruti Suzuki India today said it will hike prices of its vehicles across models this month to offset adverse impacts of rise in commodity costs, foreign exchange fluctuations and fuel price increases.

The company, however, said it is currently working out the details of the quantum of price increase, which will vary depending on the model.

Maruti Suzuki Announces Price Hike Up To ₹ 6,100

Maruti Suzuki has announced to increase car prices in India effective from today, August 16, 2018. The company has increased the price of its cars across the range by up to Rs 6,100 ex-showroom Delhi. This is the second price hike from the company this year, which previously announced a price hike in January this year ranging from Rs 1,700 to Rs 17,000 on the ex-showroom Delhi prices across models. Revealing the reason for the price revision, Maruti Suzuki India said that the hike is due to the increase in commodity and distribution costs and adverse foreign exchange rates.

The carmaker hasn't revealed the model wise price hike yet, but seeing the maximum hike amount revealed by the company, it's likely to be marginal in some of the models. Currently the carmaker's entire model range, which starts from the Alto 800 entry level hatchback, goes up to the S-Cross crossover. The pre-price hike Alto 800 starts at ₹ 2.52 lakh going up to ₹ 3.81 lakh. On the other hand, the carmaker's flagship offering the S-Cross is currently priced at ₹ 8.61 lakh to ₹ 11.32 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki is not the first carmaker to increase car prices this month. At the beginning of August, Honda Cars India also announced a price hike across its model range, including the new-gen Amaze, which received a price hike up to ₹ 31,000. Mahindra has announced that it plans to increase prices of its passenger vehicles by up to ₹ 30,000. The hike in prices is about 2 per cent and the revised price will be effective from August 2018. Last month, Ford India announced increased the prices across its model portfolio between 1 to 3 per cent. Last month Tata Motors has announced that the prices of its passenger vehicles will receive a hike of up to 2.2 per cent from August to offset increased input costs.

2018 Maruti S Cross prices increased by up to Rs 90k – Hyundai Creta rival

Maruti Suzuki India has revised prices of the S-Cross crossover. As per the new price list shared by Nexa dealer, S-Cross Delta is now priced at Rs 9.97 lakhs and Zeta is priced at Rs 10.45 lakhs ex showroom, Delhi. Price list confirms that the old S Cross was priced from Rs 8.61 lakhs to Rs 11.32 lakhs, while the new 2018 S Cross is priced from Rs 8.85 lakhs to Rs 11.45 lakhs.

But, the interesting point to note here is that the prices of old S Cross are inclusive of extended warranty cost, whereas the newer 2018 model prices does not include extended warranty. So the effective price increase is approximately Rs 90k in Delhi.

In addition to this, the recent announce by Supreme Court of mandatory 5 year insurance has also resulted in an increase of price. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, initially launched in 2015, is a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta in India. But unlike the Creta, which is offered in three engine options (2 diesel and 1 petrol), the S-Cross is only offered in a single engine option of 1.3 liter diesel.

It was offered with 1.6 liter diesel engine, but that was discontinued when the companmy launched facelift last year. So as of today, the S-Cross is only powered by a Fiat sourced 1.3 MultiJet diesel engine that also powers the Swift, DZire, Baleno, Ciaz and Ertiga. But there are reports that Maruti will soon launch a new petrol S-Cross variant.

Today, with petrol engined vehicles garnering more attention, the company is definitely missing out on sales due to non-availability of petrol S-Cross. Maruti Suzuki currently sells around 4,000 units of the S-Cross each month. The addition of a new petrol engine will allow the company to augment sales volumes. It is estimated that once the S-Cross with a petrol engine is launched, it will take away some attention from the Hyundai Creta which is currently the top selling luxury mid-sized SUV in India with over 10,000 units average sales.

Speaking about the petrol S-Cross, it will be powered by 1.5 liter SHVS petrol engine, which is also seen on board the new Ciaz and soon to be launched 2018 Ertiga. This petrol engine as seen on the Ciaz offers 104.7 PS power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm torque at 4,400 rpm. Power is sent to front wheels via 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic. Expect price of petrol S-Cross to start from Rs 8.1 lakhs, ex-showroom. In comparison, Hyundai Creta prices start from Rs 9.44 lakhs for petrol and Rs 10 lakhs for diesel, going all the way to Rs 15.11 lakhs for top end.

Ford Figo Freestyle prices increased by up to Rs 19k – Maruti Swift rival

Prices of the Ford Freestyle now start at Rs 5.23 lakhs as against an earlier price of Rs 5.09 lakhs.

Ford India has hiked the prices of the Freestyle cross hatch by upto Rs 19,000. Petrol variants are now offered in a price range of Rs 5.23-7.03 lakhs while diesel variants are priced between Rs 6.18-7.89 lakhs. It is only the prices of the Ford Freestyle Trend and Titanium + diesel variants that have not been hiked and continue at prices between Rs 6.99-7.89 lakhs.

These new prices now make the entry level Ambient petrol variant more costly by Rs 14,000 while petrol variants of the Trend and Titanium are priced higher by Rs 10,000 and Rs 19,000 respectively.

The range topping Titanium+ variant sees a price hike of Rs 9,000. Where its diesel engine options are concerned, the Ambient and Titanium trims get more expensive by Rs 9,000 and Rs 13,000 respectively.

Ford is also planning a minor update to the Freestyle crossover. A new color scheme of Ruby Red is being added to the current color lineup of Canyon Ridge, Smoke Grey, Moondust Silver, White Gold, Oxford White and Absolute Black. The Freestyle cross hatch will also get adjustable rear headrests and body colored ORVMs as a part of the update.

Ford Freestyle is offered in petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2 liter, 3 cylinder Dragon family petrol engine offers 95 bhp power and 120 Nm torque while the 1.5 liter diesel engine offers 99 bhp power and 215 Nm torque.

Both engines get mated to a 5 speed manual while the company also plans to introduce an automatic transmission. Mileage stands at 19 kmpl (petrol) and 24.2 kmpl (diesel). Despite its increase in prices, the Ford Freestyle still competes favorably with the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Mahindra KUV100.
