For hatchback, why dont you try out Micra CVT ? Its not girlish looking anymore , it can fit in 4 adults (like your gparents) very comfortably, it has decent power and is x-tremely refined and smooth. I get a mileage of 14.5kmpl in Pune's congested traffic, and that is quite good for an automatic car I think. Plus, it has got ABS-EBD , Brake Assist and twin airbags, so from safety point of view, you are covered as well. No need for compromises just to favour a brand or a particular model.
